I n0rmally don't love it when books compare themselves to Night Circus. Its my favorite book so I don't think anything really lives up. I felt like this one had the feels of The Night Circus. The writing was beautiful! The opening chapter was awesome and really drew you in. I can not wait to buy this book and look through it. The eBook had really cool pictures in it which I always appreciate in a book. This book was unique in its own right. All the characters were a joy to read about. Great read highly recommend.

An enchanting and wonderfully delightful story filled with magic, mystery and mayhem. Hotel Magnifique is pitched as a book for the fans of Caraval and The Night Circus, a fact which I can absolutely attest to. Caraval is one of my favourite series, and I’ve been looking for something similar ever since I finished it. Hotel Magnifique creates that same sense of awe and wonder as Caraval does, yet this is slightly more sinister and darker.
The story follows our main character, Jani and her sister Zosa who seek to be a part of the illustrious travelling hotel. When the sisters manage to obtain access to the hotel, they begin to realise that things are not what they seem and the hotel may not be as wonderful as they have been led to believe. Filled with illusions, secrets and magic, Hotel Magnifique is both exciting and captivating. I enjoyed it immensely and can see myself rereading it in the future. 5/5 stars!

Hotel Magnifique takes you on a very interesting and immersive ride.
I loved the ambience and whimsy of the Hotel and the magic involved in developing it. The entire vibe of the theme was amazing.
I loved the idea of a travelling hotel, with a beautiful facade but dark and deadly secrets.
But I had problems with the characters in this story. On surface level, they appear interesting and different, but they all were very one dimensional and lacked depth.
The main character especially, was a train wreck. She was always messing things up for others.
I also found the plot to be very predictable.
There are a lot of elements in the story, designed to catch the interest of the readers; but everything fell just a little bit short in a lot of things. This decreased my reading experience.
Overall, for me, it was a good book. But I was not amazed or overwhelmed by it.

Definitely a new favourite author for me, I loved the mystique, the rich writing style, the slow burn, world building and the characters. Such a unique concept and very well written. Reminded me of the Night circus and the hunger games. Highly recommend

Thank you so much Netgalley and publisher for the E-ARC.
As a Big fan of Caraval I really wanted to read this book. It was one of my most anticipated release of 2022 and I’ve not be disappointed !! I really liked the universe it was full of magic and mystery✨ once inside you no longer want to leave the book haha ^^
But I still have to admit that I found a lot of resemblance to Caraval, even too much.
Whether it was the course of certain scenes or even certain lines, I had the impression that it was a copy-paste of Caraval. But I still enjoyed reading it and recommend this book 100%!! especially if you are like me a fan of magic universes with a little touch of darkness ✨
and also I fell in love with Bel 🤩

The legendary Hotel Magnifique is like no other: a magical world of golden ceilings, enchanting soirées and fountains flowing with champagne. It changes location every night, stopping in each place only once a decade.
Thank you to @emilycanwrite the fabulous author, @netgalley and @pushkin_press for this audio-book in exchange for an honest review!
When the Magnifique comes to her hometown, seventeen-year-old Jani hatches a plan to secure jobs there for herself and her younger sister, longing to escape their dreary life.
Luck is on their side, and with a stroke of luminous ink on paper the sisters are swept into a life of adventure and opulence. But Jani soon begins to notice sinister spots in the hotel's decadent façade. Who is the shadowy maître who runs the hotel? And can the girls discover the true price paid by those who reside there - before it's too late?
What an immersive read! I absolutely loved this! I was fully invested in the world that Emily was building - I’ve been sat here since I’ve finished reading thinking what my artefact would be!
If you are a fantasy lover, you’ll enjoy the ease of this book. I felt like it could have been longer, once I’d sunk my teeth into the world, it was a wrap. Can we have more please??
I think this book really does teach you, in the words of Shakespeare himself… all that glitters is not gold…

Let me just start with that I loved this book! Both Caraval and The Midnight Circus are among my favourite books, and Hotel Magnifique managed to live up the praise and hype I’ve seen around it.
Some books takes you on a journey, and Hotel Magnifique is one of them. The experience almost felt like riding a roller-coaster, where once you started reading you couldn’t really stop until you’ve reached the end. I read it over three days, and even when I wasn’t reading it my mind wouldn’t stop thinking about the book. Which speaks volumes about how engaging the story was, since I have a tendency to forget other books basically as soon as I stop reading. But Hotel Magnifique just had a simply magical world, where the mystery kept my attention with new secrets and twists around every corner. I never knew what to expect, and I love that. Nothing is more boring to me than solving the story early on. Because then I don’t have a reason to continue reading.
Moving on to the characters, and Jani unfortunately wasn’t my favourite. I found her a bit infuriating at times. She just a bit too head-strong and when you combine that with the “chosen one” trope and a strong plot amour, things got a bit dull. Luckily she had this awareness that made her more likable. For instance, there’s this one point in the book where one of the other characters has withheld information from her and when she finds out, she gets hurt. But she acknowledge and understand that the reason the person did that was to save her and everyone, since she would have acted on the information and ruined things. Something I don’t feel that a lot of chosen heroes usually have. Jani feels human. Meanwhile one of my favourite characters was the other protagonist Bel. Where do I start with him? He’s mysterious, caring, teasing and just an awesome guy. It’s through him that Jani learns and grows, and I can’t help but love their relationship. They grow together and would do anything for the other, something I’m very soft for. Lastly I just simply adore the head of maids and Jani’s friend Béatrice. She’s just such a sweetheart, and I wish she could be my friend in real life! She offers a good counter-balance to Jani, and nicely completes their little rag-tag group.
The writing was very describing and I enjoyed that the author took the time to really give the reader the details of the hotel, it helps paint a vivid picture of the world while reading. It also just was very easy to read and overall nicely paced. Speaking of the plot and writing, there’s like three books worth of material in this book! Because while I was reading I noticed there were almost these sections, where the story took different turns and something new happen. Something unexpected that put things on it’s head with a plot twist. So there I could see how someone else would pad things out and make it trilogy. But I’m glad it’s not, because I could read it all at once. Although I am a bit sad it’s a stand-alone book as I loved the world and characters, and would love to see more of it.

Firstly a huge thank you to Pushkin Press and NetGalley for providing me with the e-arc of Hotel Magnifique by Emily J Taylor in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
This book is described as perfect for fans of Night Circus and Caraval: A magical hotel that mysteriously travels across the globe, never staying anywhere more than a day and literally just pop up anywhere, giving lucky ticket winners a chance to stay in the hotel and experience all the magic within. Hotel Magnifique, like Night Circus and Caraval also has a dark side, which despite the stunning cover with its magnificent colours and shimmering enchantment soon comes to the fore.
I will be honest, the story takes a little to pull you in, but that is to be expected with the world building that is required to allow the reader to enter and be entranced and beguiled by the glamour and magic of the Hotel Magnifique. It also introduces us to our protagonist Jani and her sister Zosa, who are entranced by the glamour and magic of the hotel and for Jani, the possibilities it offers to allow them to earn a good income and give them the opportunity to return to the village they left after their mother’s demise.
Zosa, Jani’s younger sister has the voice of a nightingale and Jani is desperate to give her the opportunities to sing and perform, but with Jani always being around to protect and guide her. However, the Hotel Magnifique has different ideas and Jani soon finds herself questioning the beauty and glamour of the ever changing magical hotel, especially after she and Zosa are separated.
The Hotel itself is more than a building, it feels like another character, with rooms, staircases and corridors that move. There are dark shadows and edges that you glimpse from the corner of your eye, that strike fear and unease in your heart. The book takes you on an adventure and does not fear to tread where other stories would, which for me definitely makes this book a minimum of upper YA reading age. Events that take place in this book include maiming, abuse and physical and mental abuse and violence. This isn’t a story for the faint-hearted, but it is a story of wonder and magic and mystery that will most definitely take you on a wondrous journey in the Hotel Magnifique!
I really enjoyed this book, reading it in a day and if you like stories full of decadence, mystery and dark magic, then this is definitely the book for you!

Hotel Maggnifique was an absolutely magical tale 😍
This story is so incredibly atmospheric, Emily is able to transport the reader from the very first page💫
I had seen this pitched for fans of the Caraval Trilogy, and I'll tell you what it did not disappointment! Hotel Magnifique has the very whimsical / magical essence that makes Caraval such a loved read!!
I could not get enough of all the beautiful descriptions used in this read, the world really comes to life so well!
I would definitely definitely recommend picking this up if you're looking for a positively magical mystery read 😍

thank you so, so much to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for this ARC!!!
this book was so good! i loved every minute of it! sure i was slightly confused at first but that’s with every fantasy book, but once i got the hang of it, it was soooo much fun! not to mention how beautiful the cover is! I can't wait for the book to arrive!!
i loved reading about the magic and picturing all the different suites and soirées. i can’t describe how happy those scenes made me, and how easily immersed i was! the magical aspect was perfect, and i love being transported into it.
the writing of it overall was amazing, the descriptions were great, heart strings were pulled, the mystery aspect was executed perfectly. ugh, just everything about this book was perfect! i knew it was going to be a 5 star read when i was barely halfway through.
my only complaint is that this book was not longer lmao. i would love a sequel to see how the characters are doing and just to go back into the world Emily created!

OH MY GOD YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK! Pre-order it, get hold of an ARC, sell a kidney, whatever you need to do! This book filled the Caraval and Night Circus shaped hole in my heart.
I adored The Night Circus and Caraval so when something is billed as being similar, then I need it in my life! Gripping throughout, great atmosphere, a bit of a romance but more of a focus on sisterly love and just an all round great read.
This book draws you in at the start with great characters and vivid descriptions of the Hotel Magnifique as a whole. The plot develops at a great pace and is intriguing making it super hard to put down. Highly, highly recommend!

*Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
Oh but this was good.Different to what I’m used to reading but I loved it! I loved both Caraval and the Night circus but this book can toot its own horn. looking forward to the future work from this author.

4.4/5✨
The blurb suggests that this is for the fans of Caraval and The Night Circus and as someone who has read and loved both, I really wanted to read this one too. Now, after finishing it, I can see the similarities between the three books. But, this one is more darker than the other two and ofcourse the writing style is very different.
The world building and the magic system is very interesting. I loved the whole idea of the artefacts and the hotel with its dazzling enchantments.
I really liked Jani, our protagonist. But, I wished there were more scenes of her sister, Zosa. Also, I felt that the antagonist needed more scenes and conversations. Though he is mentioned several times in the book but he himself wasn't present in most part of the book.
The ending chapters too felt rushed and the plot conflict resolved quite easily. I was expecting a little more action.
Overall, I really enjoyed the whole book. It's definitely a bingeable read and I also loved the dark magical atmosphere it has.

The writing of the illusions in this was decadent and intriguing. The mystery and world building similar to that of Christelle Dabos’ “a winters promise”. Despite these lovely illusions, it is dark and sinister underneath, and our MC finds that out.
I enjoyed Jani and Zosa’s sister relationship. I enjoyed Jani’s flirty behaviour with Bel too. However, I found Jani just continuously got herself into awkward situations which could have negative effects- and this just got way too repetitive.

3.5
A truly magical story, filled with intrigue and mystery - I was taken in completely by this concept of a strange hotel that appears at random. I really enjoyed the sister relationship between Jani and Zosa too, and I loved how as the story went on, events at the hotel became even stranger and more suspicious. However, I found that some of the situations that Jani found herself in became quite repetitive, and the magic system was kind of vague, with an ending that was came too quickly.

I received this free advanced reader copy in return for my honest opinions. Thank you to Emily J Taylor and Pushkin press for the opportunity.
First and foremost I absolutely loved this book! I had high hopes from the synopsis alone and this book had me hooked from the very first page. I hated having to put it down to go to work and I just couldn’t get it out of my head.
Hotel Magnifique; the magical, mystical stay of your wildest dreams. Many hope to be lucky enough to have a stay in this illustrious establishment, but like many things, it comes with a steep price. Stays are limited to two weeks only and while you’ll have the time of your life, once you leave its doors you’ll lose all memories of your adventure, leaving only an immense feeling of happiness behind. To make this even more desirable, the hotel never stays in the same place.
When the hotel comes to town sisters Jani and Zosa see this as a chance to better their lives and head to get jobs at the hotel. Soon they find themselves whisked away by Bel, the handsome doorman, and end up in the middle of the reality behind the rumours; while magic can be beautiful it can also be immensely cruel.
The characters in this book were well written, especially considering their circumstances and I quickly fell for Bel! I was excited to see where the book would go next throughout and at several moments I held my breath so long I was at risk of passing out.
I found the devotion between Jani and Zosa to be beautiful, as the eldest child myself there’s not a lot I wouldn’t do to keep my brother safe, so I could completely empathise with Jani and another character who also features within the book.
This was truly a pleasure from start to finish.

I was utterly excited by the premise and Taylor didn't fail to deliver in that the story was both intriguing and exciting with that element of magic just sprinkled on top. Despite my mediocre rating, I did enjoy this book.
However, there was a slight clunkiness to the novel that stopped it from truly sweeping me away - the world-building wasn't wholly encapsulating and the characters were a little bland. The plot itself was enough to keep my interest throughout, but even that occasionally wobbled without the support of a strong sense of place and character. It's a shame as it had the potential to be a really strong story, but with such a different setting (in world and location) to the everyday, the reader needed to have a cast-iron sense of place for the novel to really excel.

I was honestly so excited to read this book but after reading halfway through I didn't even feel connected to the characters nor the plotline so I dnfed the book at 50%.

A big thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with this eArc!!
This was so magical and stunning!!! I loved it so much!! 10/10 I can’t express how much I liked it!!

Jani is certain that jobs at the Hotel Magnifique - a place where magic simmers in the air, the location beyond the walls changes every midnight, and guests loose their memories of their two week stay - will change her and her sister's lives. But behind the magic lies a secretive and unexpected darkness. The flashy maître, obsessed with power, will do anything to ensure the Hotel runs smoothly. Once she steps over the threshold, Jani quickly realises that the Hotel might not be the safe haven she was searching for, but checking out doesn't prove as easy as checking in.
Full of magic and wonder and endlessly imaginative. The hotel was a marvel. There's a lot of darkness in this book, but the magic always brought joy and wonder to the page.
Jani was a fantastic main character who never gave up. I loved her for her loyalty to her sister and her desire to help others, no matter the danger it puts her in. I also loved the teasing arguments and slow relationship between Jani and Bel.
Hotel Magnifique is filled with a strong cast of characters, with a particularly excellent group of villains. It was refreshing to read a standalone fantasy, especially one with such complex world building, as most of my recent YA reads have been part of a series. I'm excited to read whatever Taylor writes next.
