Hotel Magnifique is full of magic. It is a luxurious, enchanting hotel that takes its guests on a magical excursion. Every midnight it appears in a new location. Within the hotel there are magical rooms, displays, everything a guest, if they have the money, can wish for.

When the hotel appears in Durc, Jani and her sister, Zosa, apply for jobs and enter this magical world. However, without giving spoilers away, everything is not as it seems. the old phrase 'all that glitters is not gold' is very apparent here and Jani sets out to discover the hotel's secrets.

The world's created by the author are richly described and the characters amazing, especially when the back stories reveal their hidden secrets. There is goodness and evil here and Jani is a stubborn and resilient heroine who will let nothing deter her. Overall, this is also a story of love - that bond between siblings, that makes you fight for the one you love.

A super read. Thank you Netgalley and Pushkin Press for allowing me to read this.

I could not get enough of this book, the magic, the story, and of course Bel.
Once I started reading I could not put it down.
I just wished there would be a continuation of this story maybe even the back story of Bel which led him to the hotel and ultimately meeting Jani.

Thank you to Netgalley and Pushkin Press for providing me with this Arc for review. All thoughts and opinions are completely my own.

If you love magic and wonder then this will be the book for you. I enjoyed this book, it isn't romance heavy or focused but more fantasy adventure and follows the story of two sisters who go to work for the magical magnifique Hotel. Plenty of magic and mystery involved but there's a dangerous side to magic that you should beware.
Couldn't fault much in this one, not dull and the pace was steady. The world building has set it up so there can be a sequel and the characters each have their own quirks which make the story more interesting.

Hotel Magnifique is a dark, mysterious, magical and spellbinding YA fantasy novel and I loved every bit of it. In the first few chapters I didn't really get a sense of the darkness and cruelty that was to come but as the story developed I found the aura of menace juxtaposed with a first love storyline seductively addictive and burnt the midnight oil reading on as I just couldn't foresee what would happen next - and I needed to find out!

Essentially this is a book of love, the bond between two sisters and the courage it takes to face anything or anyone, whether real or magical, who tries to come between them. It is a fabulous story and anyone who loves books filled with fantasy and magic should give it a read.

Think Caraval meets the Atlas Six with this book.

I fell in love with this book almost immediately (and I’m very excited to get the physical copy as soon as it hits the shelves as it deserves pride of place) and was hooked from the very first paragraph.

I am absolutely OBSESSED with Bel, I would marry that man without hesitation, sexy, sexy suminaire.

Speaking of the word suminaire I love, love, love how the magicians in this book have such a unique name and how individualistic their powers are.

I’ve always been a bit weary with protagonists in these kinds of books because there’s always an element of predictability in that they meet the magicians / vampires / faeries / etc, etc and either are a) one themselves or b) are about to become one but Jani, despite having some level of resistance to the suminaires’ magic isn’t inherently magic herself which made me love this book even more because those protagonists (yes I’m looking at you Jude Duarte) make me WANT them to be magic and take up a specific spot in my brain where I want them to have everything they deserve.

Aaaaanywaaaay, I cannot wait for everybody to get to experience Hotel Magnifique when it comes out in May and I most certainly will be pushing my janbel (can I give them a ship name? will someone christen this?) agenda on everyone who comes into any kind of regular contact with me.

I was immediately sucked into the world of Hotel Magnifique - something I was concerned would not happen after my high expectations from the comparison with Caraval - and the journey began from there! This was a wild ride, with fantastic world-building, engaging characters, and beautiful prose. I am eagerly waiting to see what Emily writes next - but a little gutted that we won't be going back into the world of Hotel Magnifique for a sequel! I know lots of people will say the same, but if you were a fan of Caraval or The Night Circus, you won't be disappointed!

Say hello to my first five star fantasy review of 2022!

Hotel Manifique by @emilycanwrite - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Thanks so, so much to @pushkin_press & @netgalley for my advanced copy!

I was looking for something fun and fantasy filled in my TBR pile after Kingdom of the Cursed (I’ll review that soon oh my it was good, but as this had such a beautiful purple cover and I’ve got such beautiful purple tulips at the moment 🤷🏻‍♀️) and it 100% broke though all my expectations for it - marketed as the natural successor to Caraval, I was worried Hotel Manifique’s publishers had set it up to be something it was not going to live up to… (because very few books can!)

Desperate to escape their lives of drudgery trying to save up enough money in the city to return home orphaned Jani takes her sister Zosa to apply for jobs at Hotel Manifique when it arrives in town, a famous hotel which magically jumps to a different destination every night for it’s wealthy guests - and the only place where it is safe to practice magic. At first, life at Hotel Manifique seems like a dream come true, surrounded by the wonderful and the whimsical, but soon Jani realises that the pair of them are tied into unbreakable contracts stuck living and working in a place hiding dark, gruesome and horrific truths beneath it’s glittering facade.

At first, this was just another well written and engaging YA fantasy novel, but then the magic and whimsy of the Hotel started to cast its spell on me. The world building is so detailed, so flawless, so clever you do get taken in, and I was gripped, reading this book in a day just like I did with Caraval. The stakes get higher and higher and it was so easy to get invested in the magic of it all - honestly, I can’t see how this is not going to become one of the biggest debuts of 2022.

Hotel Manifique will be published on May 5th, but do go and pre-order it now - pre-orders make all the difference in making sure a book will be a success, especially for debut authors like Emily!

The world building is top notch, the characters are lovable with depth and growth, the tension is real and it’s just perfect. Well, almost perfect. As with all books that I fall in love with I just wish there was more. I am a sucker for a duology or trilogy but, alas, this is a stand-alone. Fabulous eye catching cover too!

WOW. What a fantastic book very atmospheric I was really pulled in to the story and the characters they was so well written . it kind of gave me that Charlie and chocolate factory feel to the story which I really loved . it was so magical which always love , very fast paced and always keeps you on your toes needing more .as this is Emily first book I can say what a amazing job she has done , i really don't want to give to much away with this book as don't want to spoil to much for others . but if you have read The Night Circus it did remind me a little of that . i love Jani who the main character she is like a mini sherlock Holmes as she stars to uncover the secrets from the magical hotel she taken the job in with her sister and that is what got me hooked , some may find bits of the story slow at start but trust me stick with it because it will take you on an amazing magical ride of you life.

I have been searching for books that will make me feel like Stephanie Garber's writing when it came to Caraval and OUABH and this book did not disappoint. Right off the bat, we are already bewitched with the hotel's magic, which is totally fascinating. I enjoyed reading all about a magical hotel that always moves, as well as magicians and how their powers work. I think the author did a fine job defining and setting parameters on the world of magic for Hotel Magnifique. The explanation of how the magic worked was nicely written. However, I did not like the romance aspect of this book so much. Idk. I just did not feel as much as chemistry between the two leads, and the male lead's name kinda ugly (i'm sorry, i know it has an explanation for his name) I think the book should've just focused more on the healthy siblings relationship because it would've been better and we've seen a lot of siblings in this book. I think the author is obsessed with sibling relationships, and it was also nice to see them anyway so I'm not complaining. Overall, the book was an enjoyable read and it had its intriguing elements with the hotel's mystery which made me want to finish reading it quickly.

Thank you so much to Pushkin Press for letting me read an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Where do I start with this amazing book?! Damn it’s an incredible read!! I just couldn’t put it down!! It definitely has Caraval and The Night Circus vibes so if you liked either of those books then you’ll love this!!

The MC Jani is so likeable!! She’s fiery, inquisitive and intelligent all of which makes her stand out as a future fan favourite for sure. The story flows and grows with her as well as host of other very likeable characters including her sister Zosa and friends Bel and Beatrice.

What I liked most about Hotel Magnifique is that it’s a really addictive read. It’s centred about a girls love for her sister that has a dark and sinister undercurrent that definitely keeps you gripped. You never really know what’s going on 100% until quite near the end which for me is great!!

Thank you to NetGalley for the E-Arc ❤️❤️

Magnifique indeed !
We loved this book it was very similar in tone to Caravel with the magic and the sisters bond. It was absolutely magical and we were a bit disappointed when it ended ,we just did not want it to end.
The characters and the world building were so immersive and believable. We even discussed how we would fit into this world. Please write more !

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the digital ARC to review in return for an honest opinion.

I couldn't put this down once I started reading it, as a fan of both Caraval and The Night Circus I really wanted this to live up to my expectations and it did not disappoint. It's a beautiful story full of magic, good prevailing over evil and love. World building was done very well and written beautifully.

The bond between Jani and Zosa is a continual theme throughout the story with everything that Jani does being to save/provide her sister with the best life she can. After the death of their mother she has assumed the role of protector, when the Hotel Magnifique comes to town and advertises for staff she believes it to be their best chance to get out of Durc and back to Aligney for a happier life. What she doesn't expect is the strange magic at play and the feeling that not all is what it seems.

Would have loved for this to be part of as duology/trilogy.

4.5 stars
A beautifully lush and spellbindingly enchanting YA Fantasy, Hotel Magnifique is filled with gorgeous prose, immersive world building and an expansive cast of interesting (and eccentric) characters that fans of Caraval and The Night Circus are going to adore.

Hotel Magnifique is a hotel like no other: it’s bursting with magic, of enchanting soirées and champagnes filled fountains, a hotel soo exclusive that only the extremely wealthly or extremely lucky have experienced a stay. It changes location every night, stopping in each place only once a decade. But when the Magnifique stops in her hometown, seventeen year old Jani hatches a plan to secure jobs there for herself and her younger sister—in hopes to escape their dreary life.

Luck is on their side and with a single signature each the sisters are swept into a life of opulence, adventure and magic. But Jani begins to notice the sinister goings on beneath the hotel’s decadent facade. Who is the shadowy maître who runs the hotel? And can Jani uncover the true price paid by those who reside there—before it’s too late?

As a fan of both Caraval and The Night Circus I was incredibly excited to delve into Hotel Magnifique and I’m glad to say it didn’t disappoint—every page is brimming with lush descriptions that I was easily found myself fully immersed in a world of midnight soirées, constantly shifting hallways and rooms that defy all sense of logic (in the best way imaginable.)

I absolutely loved the Lore surrounding the Hotel which was really well developed and the suminaires (the magicians who live and work at the hotel) were super interesting too, of all the suminaires that we meet Bel, Béatrice and Frigga were probably my favourites.

Jani was a really interesting protagonist and relatable protagonist, she’s stubborn and occasionally rash which leads her to regret many of her actions, but her devotion to saving the ones she loves is really admirable. I also loved her scenes with Bel that simmer with romantic tension. I did enjoy their budding friendship/relationship but I do wish it was explored a little more as it did feel a tiny bit too fast pacing wise.

I did however, absolutely love the backstories of almost all of the characters (that we encounter, including the antagonists ), they were phenomenally written and really well developed—the little clues dotted throughout were absolutely amazing, I know I’ll definitely have to reread this at some point to catch the all the details I missed.

There’s not much else I can say without possibly spoiling the plot but I do highly recommend reading this, especially if you loved the whimsy and magic of Caraval or The Night Circus.

Also, a huge thank you to Pushkin Press and NetGalley for the e-arc.

Really interesting concept but the story is really slow. The characters are ok and the concept of the hotel is interesting but the story is just really slow to get moving. I know it’s trying to build up to the moment.

Unfortunately this is book is not for me but I would recommend it to people who I know who will love this book

Since I loved reading Caraval , no doubt I loved reading this book. The fantasy element of magic really soaked my heart and I was so excited while reading it. The use of magic and the existence of a magical hotel that appears and reappears according to the will of the magic of master is awesome.
Totally loved it!

I loved this book from start to finish! Everything about Hotel Magnifique is magical and mysterious, making for a gripping read. The characters are so well developed and I loved how you gradually learn bits and pieces about each persons magic and how they came to be a part of the hotel. It took a little bit of time to get going but the first section of the book was laying the foundations for what's to come - a must read for those who enjoy YA fantasy!

Really interesting concept and beautifully written! Hotel Magnifique grabs you from the first page and doesn't let go until the end, The story plot is intriguing and doesn't always go the way you might expect it to. I like that our main character, Jani, is far from perfect; instead she's jealous of her younger and more gifted sister, filled with regret for most of her decisions and stubborn on many occasions. She's also brave, funny and always trying to do the right thing. Jani is a lot more relateble than the majority of YA heroines out there right now and that's what makes me like her even more.
I liked how magic worked in this world and although 95% of the book was set in the hotel, it never felt dull or boring. There was a lot going on with many side characters bringing even more flavour to the story.
There's two small reasons that made me give this book 4 starts instead of 5: one is the love story. It was a little too childish for me; I prefer more smutt than having someone blush because their hands touched but this is personal preference. Second one is the big reveal towards the end of the book; I wished it happened more as part of the story rather than in a long dialogue that explains every point as if speaking to a child.
Neither of these two points made it less of an enjoyment to read Hotel Magnifique and I'll definitely be keeping an eye on Emily J. Taylor for her next publication.
