Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
This is the first book I've read by this author, and as soon as I finished it I signed up to follow her and bought more of her books. The story is far from a straightforward romance, with twists and turns as Annie's life unfolds. The plot basis - a husband / father requiring continual care due to injuries from an accident - is emotional, and details are so credible that they will resonate with readers who have been through something similar (as I have). The thoughts and emotions of all the family are realistic, and handled sensitively in this excellent book.
It is a truly superb book, one to read again, I completely recommend it.

One More Day By Emma Heatherington, another NetGalley read. Annie is a career for her husband Peter after an accident at home left him bed bound and unable to talk. Even though their marriage wasn’t without fault, they lived full lives, jobs and had plans, as well as 2 children. Annie is struggling, knowing the truth about their marriage and with the future that is now before her. That’s until she is offered her dream job, which sees her travelling to West Cork and which sees Annie finding herself again. I have read books by this author before so was quite excited to see what this has to offer and I wasn’t disappointed. This book is emotive arousing feelings of things we perhaps don’t like to face for example of death, what happens when the worst happens in a marriage or a relationship, the things some people don’t like to talk about. Perhaps even more emotive at the moment with the queens death and along with that the emotions that sparks people into feeling. Even though it does tackle those tough subjects it does so with dignity and sensitivity. Annie is a tough, brave, strong and determined character, pulled in so many different directions, she has her husband who before the accident she knows was having an affair of some description, after the accident his health deteriorates rapidly, as he continues to have mini strokes, he can’t communicate , not even by the squeeze of a hand or a blink of an eye, yet for Annie she made a promise in her wedding vows and she cares for him unquestionably. Annie is also a mum to 2 children. Yet Annie hasn’t a life for herself, she’s always wanted to be a writer, yet she puts everyone else first. The strength Annie has comes off the pages because it raw and honest, a great skill the author has. Writing a novel without question is hard, however from the readers perspective the story has to jump of the pages and you need to be able to get lost amongst those pages, a story has to make you feel, whatever that feeling is, it has to evoke something in you and without a doubt this book did that for me. This story will make you admire Annie as a character, she faces things head on, it will make you cry, laugh and anger you in parts. Yet it’s a beautiful story of healing and of love, of taking changes and reaching for your dreams. At the heart it’s not just about Annie and how her husbands accident has effected her, it’s about how it’s effected the whole family. This isn’t a sad, depressing read by any means because it also full of joy, love, hope, second chances and new beginnings and that’s what makes this for me an enjoyable read, Will be recommending ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A wonderful moving book by Emma Heatherington that I simply couldn't put down. Annie Madden's life is thrown upside down the day her husband Peter is involved in a life changing accident. She soon becomes his full time carer as well as being mum to two teenage children. Annie has long since given up on her dreams of becoming a writer but when a once in a life time opportunity presents to ghost write the autobiography of Senan Donnolly, local celebrity, she can't resist. Annie does not expect to form an emotional and physical connection to Senan. In turmoil she battles with indecision about what she should do and what she wants to do. A beautiful well written novel that portrays the reality of caring for someone who has a complex disability and carer burn out. Highly recommend this one

Annie Madden’s husband Peter had a terrible life altering accident. Now Annie has gone from Wife to carer overnight.
She has completely lost sight of herself and the woman she used to be. Now she’s a mother and a carer with no time for anything else.

When Peter’s nurse and his Mum stage an intervention and implore Annie to do something for herself. What’s worse the anonymous Instagram account that Annie used to vent her frustrations also comes to light. Annie begins to think maybe it is time for a change. Will she get over the guilt she’s feeling and get some help?

The opportunity of a lifetime comes up for Annie to ghost write the memoir of Senan Donnelly actor extraordinaire. However he’s holed up in West Cork and accepting the job would mean Annie is away from home for two weeks. Can she leave all her responsibilities behind and be young and free again?

Right from the get go with this book I found it to be thought provoking. The dynamic between Annie and Peter post accident was an interesting one. It’s one of loss and grief even though he was alive and physically present. I have come across this situation in real life, however not to such an extent as depicted in the book.

I loved Senan, he is your typical loveable rogue. Fallen from Grace in the acting world due to some questionable choices. He seems like a breath of fresh air for Annie, once they got past the rocky introduction.

The setting in West Cork, a beautiful part of the world. The inclusion of sea water swimming and water sports also helped to set the scene well.

I will say that the book had a slightly predictable ending which did not bother me one iota. I cherished this book so much! What a beautiful writer Heatherington really is. I look forward to reading her future work.

Ohhh my heart! There aren’t many books that touch my black murder mystery loving heart, but let me tell you people we almost had a tear here!

I’ve read a few of this authors books now and they are such beautiful stories; they are just so nice and a complete joy to experience.

Completely character driven, the story drops you into Annie’s life - it was heartbreaking, beautiful and realistic. I experienced every part of her journey; her conflicted feelings, highs and lows. I found myself questioning what would I do in that situation? How would I feel? Especially with the twist in Peter’s history, and I loved that about the book - it was so relatable, realistic and moral.

I found the book very simple, easy to read and straight forward which is far from a criticism, it meant that I could just escape when reading it and immerse myself in Annie’s life without any worries. I raced through it, the plot managed to keep up a pace even when there wasn’t much action happening, and kept my on my toes right to the end meeting a satisfying conclusion. I also loved the chapters of Instagram posts which broke up the plot but also gave a great insight into Annie and Peters relationship ‘before’ which I feel could have been a book in itself but also made this book feel whole.

Thanks to #EmmaHeatherington, @netgalley and #HarperCollins for allowing me to read this one early! (Sorry I didn’t make it for publication day!)

OUT NOW!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

Annie and Peter had a life that was perfect in every way, with two children, a home they loved as well as each other. Then, one day, everything changed.

Annie’s life now, is so different to how it was, after the events of that day. The future of her family’s life is now under a cloud.

She is given the opportunity to get back into a life she once lived, as a writer. But Annie is unenthusiastic about it. Senan, is a bad-boy, from Hollywoid, and so far every writer who’s wanted to write his story hasn’t been successful in doing so. Will Annie have any luck?

Annie comes to the coast of West Cork, where Senan is staying, there she finds that there is things that aren’t known about him.

Finding that her heart is starting to feel things towards Senan, she’s not wanting to go down that route.

Will Annie be able to put herself first for once and begin living her life again?

Highly recommend this book.
