I love reading about cold cases and that’s what drew me to this book. I picked this up after being in a reading slump and I am happy to say that I was completely sucked in right from the beginning
The story follows Avery Mason, a hotshot tv investigative journalist who discovers that a recently identified victim of the 9/11 attack was an accused in a sensational murder case. How she follows up on it, forma the rest of the story.
The pace and suspense were really well done. I was thoroughly surprised by the twists at the end. I was able to figure out a few small details but the big reveal was definitely a surprise.
I loved the characters of Avery and Walt as well. They were really well written and I wouldn’t mind a sequel starring both of them again.
The one thing that bothered me was the writing. Not as a whole but in many places I found repetitive rehashing of something obvious that can be inferred clearly and that took away some of the joy in figuring out stuff.
But other than that one negative the rest of this thriller delivered and got me out of a long weird slump. I would definitely recommend this

Avery Mason, host of American Events, knows the subjects that grab a TV audience's attention. Her latest story - a murder mystery laced with kinky sex, tragedy, and betrayal - is guaranteed to be ratings gold. New DNA technology has allowed the New York medical examiner's office to make it's first successful identification of a 9/11 victim in years. The twist: the victim, Victoria Ford, has been accused of the gruesome murder of her married lover. In a chilling last phone call to her sister, Victoria begged to prove her innocence. Emma Ford has waited twenty years to put her sister to rest, but closure won't be complete until she can clear Victoria's name.

The story is told from several perspectives, has a dual timeline, then and now, and it's an easy book to read. It's been well written and executed, the characters are well developed and believable. This is a story of lies, regrets, deceit and secrets. There's plenty of twists and revelations. The plotline held my attention throughout.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Canelo and the author #CharlieDonlea for my ARC of #TwentyYearsLater in exchange for an honest review.

Wow what a rush! I could not put this down! This one started a little slow for me and I was a little worried but I love this author and know the books are usually great. And true to form it picked up the pace and the separate perspectives meshed and it was a wild ride. I read while I ate dinner, I literally could not put it down. I adored the main characters. The story line was phenomenal and holy smokes the ending was literally jaw dropping. I’m still sitting here stunned. Five glowing stars.

I had never read anything from this quthor before but after this one, I will be looking to remedy that ASAP. This was such an engaging read. The plot was so original and unique and it just kept me hooked from the start. There is a lot going on and you do need to pay attention, which I loved. Too many stories seem to be just surface level fluff that you can skim through in 2 hrs but this story goes to new depths. There are so many themes, all perfectly woven through the story and you will savour every second of it

Well this was a highly entertaining read overall. Maybe a little too busy towards the end but the journey there more than made up for it.

Contrary to some reviews, 9/11 is used as a backdrop for one of the dual storylines here. It is not a central plot. I really liked its use as a device in the plot line and found it in no way disrespectful.

The story is told from a few different view points and jumps back and forward in time but it is very easy to follow and keep track of, due to well written rounded characters.

Its a story of lies, deceit, regret, love, life...all wrapped up in an excellent thriller with many a plot twist to boot.

The ending perhaps a little too neat but it didnt take away from the overall enjoyment of this excellent book.

Thanks to the publisher for an ARC through Netgalley.

Two decades ago an event shock the world and a cold case is about to hit the headlines.
The New York medical examiner makes a successful identification of a tiny bone fragment using DNA the bone is from a 9/11 victim.
Victoria Ford had been accused of the brutal killing of her married lover. At the time of her death her final call was to her sister begging for her to prove her innocence.
Avery Mason an upcoming star of daytime TV knows this is her big break so she heads to the city to get the scoop she needs.
As she digs into Victoria's life she finds a sinister tale and her own secret is on the verge of being revealed as well.
Both their shocking secrets of what they did years ago refuse to stay buried.
The story kept me gripped from the start and throughout, definitely one not to be missed.

Avery Mason, host of a new magazine type of show, decides to travel to New York to investigate the DNA identification of Victoria Ford's remains. Victoria perished in the 9/11 World Trade Center tragedy after meeting with her defense lawyer. She was accused of murdering her lover. Meanwhile Walt is retired from the FBI, drinking rum and living the good life in Jamaica, when he is called on by Jim Oliver, his old boss, to investigate Avery, who is the daughter of a shames ponzi scheme operator who disappeared before his trial.

This book was excellent. It took me longer to read because I really wanted to be engaged when I read it and I almost wanted to savor it. My interest never waned. I was engaged from start to finish. I have read all of this author's books and they have all been 4-5 stars, but I believe this was his best. This is one of the best books I have read this year. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for his next novel.

What a refreshing, gripping storyline. Avery Mason, tv host is looking to make a feature about the female identified from 9/11 ground zero over 20 years ago. It turns out Victoria Ford was being accused of murdering her lover when the Towers were hit. Ex-FBI agent who originally investigated the Ford case is brought back to reopen the case and links up with Avery.
A compelling plot with some well developed characters and twists that keep you going until the end. Definitely going to reading more by Charlie Donlea!
