Take your Breath Away by Linwood Barclay had an interesting plot line with the disappearance of Bree. The book is a bit of a whodunnit/psychological mystery but I found it a little bit slow and the characters didn’t have enough depth to engage me quickly and effectively. They were pretty hard to like to be fair Overall the storyline ran well and there were some good twists and turns before the reveal and overall ut was a decent read. Three stars for this one from me.

This was the first Linwood Barclay title I've read and it certainly will not be the last. This was an explosive thriller, and one that I fond myself unable to put down. Highly recommend this title.

Many thanks to HQ and NetGalley for the review copy.

My second book I’ve read by Linwood Barclay and I will read more.
I love how you cannot guess the ending to the book, his books are so unpredictable and fast paced.
At one point, I felt really on edge as the suspense built.

Linwood Barclay should have his books as Netflix series !

I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest a review.
Unfortunately this murder mystery didn't really cut it. The story was littered with unexplained red herrings and undeveloped story arcs that meant the whole experience and the ending felt unsatisfying. The whole thing was just too far fetched with too many plot holes to be enjoyable. Not for me!
On a final note, I know this was an early proof but there were a lot of typos which were quite annoying.

Six years ago Andrew got away on a weekend getaway with his best friend Greg. His wife Brie is staying home alone in their new house. When Andrew comes home, Brie is gone and he is the number one person of interest in her disappearance. Then there is a sighting of Brie.
This story is one big nightmare for Andrew. Nobody is really in his corner. There is just enough to cast doubt on him. I didn’t get the feeling that Andrew did something to Brie. But this is Linwood Barclay, so you never know. Right? There were so many possible suspects that I really didn’t know how this case would be resolved. And, of course, there was a twist in the end!

I am so sorry but I did not finish this. I felt the characters were wooden and the plot a bit far fetched. My sincere apologies.

Over the last years I’ve become an avid fan of the author’s stories and this one didn’t disappoint one second.
Immersive and compelling, this suspenseful thriller is more than one can wish for a great story. I loved how everything is paced and unveiled in the end.

Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy

Another solid Linwood Barclay page turner. Some excellent twists and turns but I found the final outcome a tiny bit more predictable than some of his other books. Still a great read, and maybe less predictable to those who haven't read quite as many of his books as I have!

This book has such an intriguing premise – a woman has been missing for six years and then one day she is spotted outside the home she used to live in but she quickly disappears again! We then follow her husband and members of her family as they try to figure out what is going on, and discover that nothing is quite as it seems! This book definitely requires suspension of disbelief but that doesn’t stop it being incredibly readable and hard to put down. I kept thinking I had it all figured out and then the rug would be pulled from under me again, which I loved. I enjoyed this one.

Another great book from the brilliant Linwood Barclay. Tightly plotted, excellently well drawn characters and a real page turner. Call me greedy, but I can’t wait for the next one, even though I was up most of the night trying to work out what had happened to Andrew’s wife, Brie. The mysterious appearance of a woman who looks like Brie 6 years after she went missing - is it her? Is it a figment of imaginations that desperately want it to be her? These questions and more circling my mind to the point when I literally couldn’t put this book down, which I know is a cliché but it’s true.

One weekend, while Andrew Mason was on a fishing trip, his wife, Brie, vanished without a trace. Most people assumed Andy had got away with murder, but the police couldn’t build a strong case against him. For a while, Andy hit rock bottom – he drank too much, was abandoned by his friends, nearly lost his business and became a pariah in the place he had once called home. Now, six years later, Andy has put his life back together. He’s sold the house he shared with Brie and moved away for a fresh start. When he hears his old house has been bulldozed and a new house built in its place, he’s not bothered. He’s settled with a new partner, Jayne, and life is good. But Andy’s peaceful world is about to shatter. One day, a woman shows up at his old address, screaming, ‘Where’s my house? What’s happened to my house?' And then, just as suddenly as she appeared, the woman – who bears a striking resemblance to Brie – is gone. The police are notified and old questions – and dark suspicions – resurface. Could Brie really be alive after all these years? If so, where has she been? It soon becomes clear that Andy’s future, and the lives of those closest to him, depends on discovering what the hell is going on. The trick will be whether he can stay alive long enough to unearth the answers.

'Take Your Breath Away' is another stunning thriller from Barclay and it definitely took my breath away! I really liked the sound of this book just from the premise and I was not to be disappointed. Barclay weaves an intense plot that kept me gripped and meant I wanted to keep reading that little bit more. There are also so many twists throughout and the pace never let up, all ensuring for fantastic reading.

Where this book really excels is with the characters. I found all of them to be likeable and human, it meant I could relate to them and I cared about what they were going through. Barclay has written the perfect cast to carry this plot and they do it perfectly.

This thriller is exciting, intense and dangerous. I loved it.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for an advance copy.

Classic Linwood Barclay! Fast paced, lots of dead ends and red herrings, a vague feeling of anxiety, likeable characters, a subtle dry wit and bucketful of suspense.

I really enjoyed this one, not my favourite by the author - that would be Never Saw It Coming - but it gets a good solid 5 stars all the same.

The blurb on this story tells you everything you need to know - all I can add is that this is one to save for a quiet weekend because you won't want to put it down.

Thank you Linwood Barclay for another cracking story!

Andrew’s wife Brie has been missing for 6 years and is presumed dead. That is, until there are reported sightings of Brie. I enjoyed this book from start to finish. A gripping twisty mystery that I couldn’t put down. Highly recommended!

Andrew Mason went on a fishing trip with his best friend and on his return he discovered his wife Brie has vanished without a trace. Andy is the prime suspect and everyone believes he has gotten away with murder. Six years later a woman sharing a striking resemblance to Brie shows up at Andy and Bries old address to discover the house they once shared has been knocked down. She begins to scream where’s my house? what’s happened to my house? Could Brie really be alive after all these years? and if so, where has she been?

Wow!! where to start Linwood Barclay is really the master of suspense. This is a complete page turner that keeps you guessing right until the end and what an ending! I did not see that coming. Honestly this is the best book he has written since no time for goodbye. If you are looking for a book that will keep you at the edge of your seat then this is the book for you. An excellently written thriller that will blow you away.

A 5 star read!!!
