Take Your Breath Away - Linwood Barclay

Brie Mason has been missing, presumed dead, for six years until she makes a brief re appearance. Was it really her or just someone that looked like her? Andrew Mason, her husband and prime suspect in her disappearance, is determined to find out. - Another great story from Linwood Barclay. I really enjoyed reading this and I'm sure you will too.

This is a book which has captured my interest from the beginning. I love how this is written. It is filled with a mix of characters and has been a book I have been unable to predict.

WOW! I love this book, it kept me guessing right to the end and I did not see it coming. I loved the twists and turns and the fact that our main character wasn't the only one keeping a secret! It had me gripped from the off and found the more I read, the quicker I needed to read it to find out what happened. A brilliant read.

Another cracking thriller from this author. Not my favourite as it seemed a bit disjointed in places, and the reasons for the main event were not convincing. But thoroughly enjoyable all the same.

As usual a great read from Linwood.

He always delivers a page turner that keeps you reading and this was no different.

Mr Mason comes back from a fishing trip with his friend to discover his wife has gone, vanished without a trace. Everyone thinks it is a case of murder and he did it and has got away with . After a few years he has a new partner and is getting over his missing wife when a woman shows up at his old address where he used to live with his wife and suddenly it seems his missing wife may be back.
Now starts the rollercoaster as Mr Mason tries to find out what is going on. Is she back? Where is she? etc etc.

I will leave you to read it and discover the outcome/truth but I can assure you it is worth the effort of the read. Can't wait for Linwood Barclay's next book.

Andrew's wife Brie disappears from their home while her husband is away on a fishing trip. We then flash forward six years: Andrew has changed his name (as the police, his sister in law and everyone else are convinced he murdered her), climbed out of the pit of despair and rebuilt his life and his business. He has a new partner, Jayne, and life looks good.

Then his former neighbour contacts him to say his missing wife appeared at the door of the old house! Suspicions are raised again; is Brie alive? And if so, where has she been for six years?

The result is a roller coaster of suspicion and intrigue, as 'Brie' is seen at the hospital where her mother is dying, and Andrew once more comes under suspicion. A really good read, kept me guessing till almost the end. And the denouement was totally believable.

Another success for Barclay. Thank you to NetGalley and HQ General Fiction for allowing me access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book.

An enjoyable read with a few surprises focussing on the disappearance and reappearance of Brie

I just finished this ARC (very overdue) and have to say that it was one of Mr Barclay's finest. I very much enjoyed all the characters in this novel. The story was one that had a few twists that I did not see coming at all - which is just how I like it. I read thrillers to be surprised and enthralled. This is something I can be assured of when picking up a book by Barclay. I have to say that I started off not liking Jayne, but then as the story went along I warmed up to her and was very pleased by the way this book ended. Let's just say that! I think it was as close to a 'happily ever after' one can expect from the suspense master that is Linwood Barclay.

What a read this was!!

I've to credit Linwood Barclay for getting me back into reading a few years ago when I bought The Promise Falls books. This book is Linwood Barclay at his very best!

The book follows Andrew, who's wife vanishes without a trace when he was away on a fishing trip with no alibi. 6 years later his wife Brie still hasn't been found and people have not stopped suspecting Andrew murdered her!

Andrew has moved in with his recent-ish girlfriend, when a number of people start reporting sightings of Brie around town. This sets numerous wheels in motion!

What follows is an absolutely brilliant mystery thriller with lots of twists and turns! An easy 5 star read for me!!

Thanks to @netgalley and @hqstories for providing me with this copy in exchange for an honest review

Its been 6 years since Brie Mason was reported missing - the :Police always thought that her husband Andrew had killed her , but without a body were unable to make a case .
Andrew has moved on and made a new life for himself , selling his old home which has been demolished and a new home built in its place . When a woman , bearing a striking resemblance to Brie , appears outside the new house screaming "what has happened to my house " and then disappearing as quickly as she arrived , Andrew must once again ask himself - what happened to Brie ? where has she been all this time ? is it really Brie or someone's idea of a sick joke ?
The Author tells the story from different POVs ...........its a gripping story full of mysteries , jealousies , secrets and lies - the book kept me entertained throughout .

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

New year, new Linwood Barclay novel that keeps me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed Take Your Breath Away. I never knew what to expect and it certainly kept me glued to the pages.

Brie Mason has been missing. For six years her family has wondered whether she was still alive. For six years a police detective has been convinced that she’s been killed by her husband. And then one day, a woman who looks exactly like her appears in front of her old house, where now lives a new family, asking what happened and where her husband is. And then she disappears again.

Andrew Mason has started a new life, but when his neighbour calls to tell him that a woman with a strong resemblance to Brie came to his old house, the memories of six years ago come crashing back. Is Brie really back? And where has she been for the past six years?

Switching between different POVs, Linwood Barclay tells a gripping story of jealousies, secrets, lies, mystery, and search for the truth. Everyone in Brie’s life is a possible suspect and the truth took me completely by surprise. Brie’s disappearance and what happened to her is at the centre of the story, but the author also analyzes the effects of her possible return on her family. Will she return to her husband disrupting his new life? Will her mother finally find peace?

Self-paced and twisty, Take Your Breath Away confirms that Linwood Barclay is an incredible storyteller. I read it in two sittings spending a few hours completely engrossed in the story!

This is the first Linwood Barclay book I have read. I am a fan of the genre but have always reached for authors I have read before so, for me I felt as though I took a bit of a leap of faith with this and I’m glad I did.
It was fast paced enough to keep me interested and the story was well written enough to keep me guessing.
I will definitely look out for more books by this author in the future

One weekend while Andrew Mason was on a fishing trip, his wife Brie, vanished without a trace. Most people assumed Andy had got away with murder, the police couldn’t build a case against him. Andy hit Rick bottom for a while, drinking too much, pushing friends away, he nearly lost his business and became a pariah in a place he once called home.
6 years later, Andy is slowly piecing his life together he’s moved on and found a new love. His peace is about to be shattered.
What really happened to Brie?

As a lover of Linwood’s earlier books I was excited to be offered the chance to read this

I enjoyed reading this and wasn’t disappointed. With multiple twists and turns that kept me guessing. The tension builds and kept me entertained throughout.. I loved getting to know the characters and what makes them.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this title

This book is a good thriller, the concept of the story had me drawn in and I started off really enjoying it. However, I felt like it dragged on a little bit at times and I kept waiting for the massive twists I’d been led to believe were to come. I felt like the ‘baddie’ was predictable, I had guessed who it was fairly early on and although a couple of things were surprising, there weren’t any big shocks which I found a little disappointing.

That being said, it’s a well written book and it kept my interest. This is the first Linwood Barclay book I’ve read and I’m still looking forward to reading more from him.

3.5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, HQ and Linwood Barclay for my arc of Take Your Breath Away in exchange for an honest review.

Out now!

It’s always the husband. That’s what they say and that’s what everyone thought about Andrew Mason when his wife Brie disappears while he’s on a fishing trip. Brie’s disappearance has baffled everyone and everyone from Brie’s sister to the police detective who investigated are convinced it was Andrew. There’s just never been proof.

6 years later Andrew has finally settled into a new life, with a new name and a new partner, Jayne. That is until someone who looks exactly like Brie starts turning up, and disappearing again. Now everything is back up in the air. If Brie is back, where has she been all this time, what truly happened to her and what will her reappearance mean for everyone involved now?

This was a refreshing move back to Linwood Barclay’s old style of writing having not enjoyed the last couple of books. However, I still can’t say that it pulled me in as much as some of his earlier works. The story did drag out in parts and some of the twists felt just that little bit too far fetched. Overall a good read though.
