The shocking affects when your wife disappears and you are prime suspect. Six years later, you have moved town, changed your surname and in a new relationship but then your wife is spotted twice. Is it her, where has she been are all left hanging to the very last page. You can feel the emotions reaching out of the page. Compulsive reading, if it was a series you would be binge watching it.

This one reels you in hook, line and sinker!! The mystery around Brie is fascinating as well as the knock on impact this then leads to. Unable to put this one down!

My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for my copy of Take Your Breath Away. Now mine was an uncorrected proof copy and unfortunately one of the worst of this nature I've ever come across which did hamper my enjoyment quite a lot but hopefully, come publication this will all have been ironed out and the reader will be faced with a fluent, well paced plot as is usual for Lingwood Barclay which will keep them guessing as long as it did me. By the by, this story is set in 2022 and the pandemic is over so that's something good to look forward to 😉

Thank you for the opportunity to read an early copy of this book.

Andrew's wife Brie went missing six years ago while he was away at his cabin. Her body has never been found, the police still suspect him and her family blame him. He has finally started rebuilding his life when a suspected sighting of Brie is made. But why has she suddenly reappeared?
I felt sympathy for Andrew's character and Barclay kept me guessing as to whether he was responsible for Brie's disappearance or there was another cause.
But the story didn't grip me. I have read all of Linwood Barclay's novels but these last two have felt unfinished.

Linwood Barclays is the undisputed king of domestic thrillers and the plight of the ordinary man, and this masterclass thriller once again proves that! The protagonist is a tortured soul following the disappearance of his wife years ago, and some mysterious developments throw his life into turmoil once again.

Another thrilling Linwood Barclay novel - I guessed some of the twists but enjoyed the ride anyway.

I look forward to the next one!

I have always thought of Linwood Barclay as one of my favourite authors but lately I have struggled with some of his offerings. This one for me showed a lot of promise and there were certainly some parts that I enjoyed but overall thought it rated 3.5. I felt the plot dragged a little and it never really held me like many of the authors other novels.

Brie Mason disappeared without trace while her husband Andrew Mason was on a fishing trip, which led to many assuming that he had something to do with it. The police suspected murder but their investigations failed to result in any charges been made. Andy’s life suffered and he was drinking far too much, his friends deserted him and he almost lost his business.

Six years on and Andy is in a far better place, the home he shared with Brie is sold and he is trying to make a new life with his new partner Jayne. Andy wasn’t bothered when his old house was knocked down and a new house built as he was trying to rebuild his life.

But when a woman with a strong resemblance to Brie turns up at his old address his life is thrown into turmoil. The woman makes a commotion, screaming ‘Where’s my house? What’s happened to my house?’ and then, just as suddenly as she appeared, the woman is gone. The police are notified and old questions and suspicions once again resurface. Is Brie alive after no trace for six years and what affect will it have on Andy and his new life. He needs answers before his life hits rock bottom again.

I would like to thank Netgalley and HQ for supplying this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to Netgalley and HQ books for the ARC of this book.
I really enjoyed this book. It was written at a reasonable pace and flowed nicely. The characters are all fairly likeable and the storyline was not too far fetched. It doesn’t blow you away but it is, as always, a really good read from Linwood Barclay.
Look forward to seeing what he comes up with next as all his stories are very different.

I think I have read every novel Linwood Barclay has written. He never disappoints. Take Your Breath Away is no exception. He character-builds so slowly and carefully that, when disaster strikes, it comes as a complete shock. And then he does it again with the big reveal. I have nothing but praise for this excellently written book and highly recommend it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This story does indeed Take Your Breath Away. A wife with the cheesy name Brie disappears and of course the husband Andrew who was on a weekend break with his friend Greg is the immediate suspect. Brie has an extended family who blame him too. With no body, the question remains till, after six years, she may have been seen. The story is cleverly interwoven with many unexpected twists which make it a compulsive read. I strongly recommend it.

I have always loved Linwood Barclay's books. This book very much reminds me of one of Linwood's early book 'Tell no one'. Its the author back at his very best. A blistering storyline. Very fast paced which keeps you hooked from the very first pages.
A woman goes missing. Six years later someone who looks like Bree appears. We're fingers wrongly pointed at her husband Andrew all those years ago. Why would she suddenly be back. And if its not her who is this woman.
I will certainly be recommending friends add this book to their read lists.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read an ARC

The title of this book is very apt - talk about twists and turns as the story evolves.Incredible! You think you know what’s happening and who is involved, but no, not as you might imagine! An enjoyable, well written page turner.

Andrew is rebuilding his life after the disappearance of his wife, Brie, six years ago.
The detective in charge of the case believes that he killed her, as does Brie’s sister.

He has a new partner, and is running a business. His partner’s son is living with them.
When a woman, who appears to be Brie comes to his old house, and then is seen around the town, a lots of old wounds are re-opened, and he finds himself again in the centre of a very confusing and dangerous situation.

There are some brilliantly drawn characters, the detective, a professional hitman who runs a laundromat as a day job, Brie’s mother and Tyler, his partners troubled brother.
They all have their secrets, and the truth about Brie’s disappearance becomes more complex, until, after a few twists, it is resolved in a satisfying ending.

Thanks to Netgalley and HQ for the opportunity to read this book.

Fast paced and fascinating thriller which kept me guessing the fate of Brie throughout. The husband is always a prime suspect when the wife goes missing, but we are kept in suspense until the guilty party is eventually revealed. It was difficult to put this book down.

LINWOOD BARCLAY – TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY *****

I read this novel in advance of publication through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Linwood Barclay does just that. He takes your breath away with the twists and turns and sheer roller-coaster speed with which the pages of his latest thriller unfold. I could write a quick review for anyone who likes fast-paced thrillers: Read it.

Without revealing any of the myriad of surprises, this story concerns Andrew, whose wife Brie disappeared without trace six years ago, with him the prime suspect in the mind of one Detective Marissa Hardy, who has pursued him with ruthless doggedness.

Six years on, having changed his surname, he is living with Jayne and her wayward teenage brother Tyler, trying to get his life back on track. Brie’s family still believe him to be a murderer - until a woman turns up at the house Andrew and Brie shared (now rebuilt and lived in by another family), a woman who looks and sounds like Brie to Andrew’s old neighbour who still lives next door to what was their home.

Barclay is a master craftsman. Revealing just as much but no more than you need to know at any given time, the only certainty is that Andrew, whose chapters are told in the first person, must be alive at the end of the story in order to write them. It is skilfully plotted and told, with everything that happens foreshadowed to perfection. It would make an excellent series on Netflix.

Don’t think I have read through a novel as quickly as this for a long time.

Read it.

Andrew Mason's wife, Brie vanished under mysterious circumstances six years ago. Andrew has since rebuilt his life with a new name and partner. Despite the police and Brie's sister being convinced that Andrew killed her, he has never been charged and her body never found. Then, after all this time there are reported sightings of Brie in the local town. The story twists and turns along a myriad of somewhat unlikely avenues and there are references to James Lee Burke, Elmore Leonard, Jack Reacher and Stephen King along the way.
This is the first novel I have read by Linwood Barclay and I found it an enjoyable and light hearted read. I will be looking out more of his books in the future.

It's always the husband, isn't it?

And so begins Linwood Barclay's new novel. I loved Barclay's initial novels with some others not really working for me. Here however, he is back to his best.

Brie goes missing whilst her husband, Andrew, was away on a fishing trip. Andrew suffers a breakdown and loses his job, self respect and is constantly under suspicion from the Police and society and the general feeling is that he 'got away with it'.

Six years later, however, he has met Jayne, has a new job, is settled down and living his good life. However, a woman matching Brie's description shows up at their old house which turns everything on its head. Is it really her? What happened six years ago? And what is going to happen now?

This is one of those books that is over quickly, not in terms of length but once you pick it up you won't want to put it down. You will fly through the pages desperate to know what happens next and Barclay paces the novel perfectly.

Thanks to Netgalley and HQ for an ARC in exchange for an honest review

I have previously read books by Linwood Barclay and knew what to expect, I certainly wasn’t disappointed! With so many twists and turns I was constantly changing my mind as to who had done what and why. A great mystery thriller I would thoroughly recommend.
