Dr Rea Dharmasena and Dr Julia Stone have been best friends and rivals since school.

Rea is grieving the loss of her dream job, something she’d worked for and had hoped to sail through.

What hurts as much is that the role went to Julia. Especially when it seems that Julia may have gotten the job due to stealing some of Julia's work.

Rea is thinking about forgiveness when Julia is found dead, and Rea suddenly becomes their No 1 suspect.

Was it jealousy?

Eventually, Rea is handed a lifeline; she’s now welcomed into Julia’s old role – by some – but there’s the very real fact that her is dead and someone is responsible. Is she now in danger?

Deadly Cure is a fast paced medical thriller.

Rea and Julia, best friends and rivals since school. They have both followed the same career path and become Doctors.

When a position comes up in research to find the cure for Cancer they both apply. Julia gets the job and the two friends have quite a public falling out.

Just when Rea is willing to forgive, Julia is found dead. The police are investigating and Rea seems like the number one suspect. Was it jealousy?

Rea takes Julia's place on the research team and uncovers strange goings on at the Medical Facility. Now Rea has the job she has always dreamed of, but at what cost!!

A great read that kept me spell bound throughout this book.

This was a good read overall, however I found some of the events very contrived. Also I was never invested in the characters either, so personally not the best for myself. Many thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.

This was an alright book, and would have continued being good ... right up until the nonsense at the end. A secret underground testing programme? In another sci-fi kind of book, this plotline would have fit right in and not stuck out like the sore thumb it was. Until that point, the novel was quite a good read and fairly realistic. Sure, there were some weird side plots and coincidences but not too much to put someone (me) off. Then the whole explanation / climax came.

Rea and Julia, best friends since they were young, both followed the same career path and are now doctors. When a position opens up in research, they both apply, who wouldn’t want to be part of finding the cure to cancer? Julia gets the job which leads to a falling out.

Just when Rea is ready to forgive Julia, Julia is found dead. Who killed her? The police are investigating and it seems Rea is the number one suspect.

This was a great read, I needed to know more, I was hooked! There were twists and shocks, betrayal and anger. I didn’t particularly like Rea or Julia for certain reasons but it was fast paces and I couldn’t stop reading.

This book was very unique, I have not read anything similar to it before.

I don’t know how I feel about this book. I enjoyed it in some ways but it also felt like it took a massive left turn into a ditch early on and didn’t really recover. The main characters infuriated me a lot and while there was a realism to their characters it also felt like a lot of pettiness occurred in their relationship. I felt like, considering they were doctors, they felt very childish at times. It may have some realism but it frustrated me and bored me. When things change it got a little better for the characters until the latter portion of the novel when it took another turn. The storyline itself was interesting. I like the idea of someone doing research into a cure for cancer but I’m not sure how realistic the actual events of the book feel. I know realism isn’t necessary in books but at times it felt too out there for a book based in reality. I did enjoy the book enough and it maintained my attention throughout, I’m just not the biggest fan of what happened here. I did like Feng. It’s a shame we didn’t really see much of him and instead the story focused on the less interesting characters.

‘Deadly cure’ by Mahi Cheshire was an enjoyable read that keeps you guessing. I wouldn’t say it was a life changing read however it was definitely enjoyable.

I gave the book 4 stars because it was a good storyline with a twist at the end I didn’t see coming but l can’t honestly say I loved it. It was one of those books that I was in a hurry to get to the end of so that I could start my next book.
The synopsis sounded interesting but I felt like I was always waiting for something more exciting to happen.
Maybe it just wasn’t right for me.

The synopsis for this intrigued me. But while I did enjoy this enough. I still found it to be a little underwhelming overall.
I did spend the whole book somewhat interested in finding out the truth, I also didn't like or care about any of the main characters.
I had figured out one of the guys involved pretty early on. But the twist regarding Julia was a surprise that I should have seen coming.
I expected more suspense in this considering the topic at hand but it was a little lacking for me.

I found this very slow but had plenty of twists.
Julie and Rea had been friends for years both become Drs and apply for the same dream job in cancer research which Julie gets the job which causes a drift between the two.
Rea decides to visit Julie and finds her dead after which Rea is offered Julies job but things start to go wrong in the research lab with devastating results.
Love the twists

This is a terrific premise - junior doctor Rea loses out on her dream cancer-research job to her incredible frenemy Julia, with bad behaviour on both sides that leads to a falling-out. When Julia is pronounced dead in suspicious circumstances, Rea gets the dream job anyway. She also enters a world of intrigue and mystery, and puts herself in danger.

I admire the author for bringing this to life while still working as a GP. When I was a junior doctor I was too exhausted to have frenemies, let alone write a thriller. I would have run a mile from the charismatic clinical director who is the main love interest, but plenty wouldn't! Unfortunately I found the characters opaque, the plot unconvincing and the startling twist at the end unsatisfying. However if you ignore all the implausible elements it's a good read and I can see it translating well to the screen as a glossy thriller series.

Julia & Rea were best friends. Julia was a great help to Rea is medical school when Rea was struggling. All was going well until their dream job, researching a cure for cancer, comes up & Julia gets the position. Rea does not handle this well & they are estranged. Told from the point of view of both women gives the reader a lot to think about. To start with Rea really got on my nerves but as the book progressed I began to warm towards her. Julia on the other hand was a bit trickier!

Although I found this really hard going to start with ( in fact I left it for a while before coming back to read the rest) I eventually got stuck in & couldn't put it down. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

This is a great thriller. Usually I find the twists predictable even though I enjoy them but I really didn't see the twist coming in this one. I would say that none of the main characters are particularly likeable which added to the guessing game of what the outcome might be.

Wow oh wow!! How on Earth is this a debut? I NEED MORE!!! There’s no backlist for me to seek out, I literally have to wait. Whilst I ramble incoherently here, I have to add that I’m really unsure how a written review will do this book justice. Please just trust me when I say – THIS IS A MUST READ.

We are introduced to Rea and Julia, frenemies in the same field who appear to be in competition with each other. That is until Julia gets an opportunity which both had gone for.

That’s where this really ramps up and there are so many things within this one to unpick. The book contains so many themes: jealousy in friendship, professional ethics, animal testing and so many more. This book has taken me on a rollercoaster.. although the plan was to read over a seven day period, I have devoured page after page in just two days.

There have been moments my jaw has dropped and I have been speechless. I’ve been on the edge of my seat and there have been enough twists and turns to keep me guessing throughout this one. I have thought that I had it figured out then BANG another twist and I have been back to completely oblivious.

This is beautifully written and the author has transported me to the pages of this one. I feel as though I have been watching this one play out. I have been completely caught up in the plot.

The characters in this are interesting. I wasn’t sure on Julia from the very beginning and something made me question her character from the beginning. The other characters in this one haven’t given me any bad vibes, I’ve enjoyed the journey through with them.

This is twisty and fast paced. I love that our main protagonists are successful women in the medical world. It’s been really refreshing. I’ve felt a personal connection with Rea due to her neurological condition- hers caused by a tragic accident and mine a blood clot on the brain. I love that the author has shown that effects do not just disappear.

This is an absolute masterpiece and has been a gem to read. I a million per cent recommend this book! It is absolutely phenomenal and I’ve been completely caught up! A must read and an author to watch out for.

I will be completely honest and say that I don't think I would have picked up this book on the cover alone, but I'm so glad that I was able to take part in the readalong and experience such an addictive read.

Set in the medical world, straddling research and examinations, artistic licence has definitely been used, but I was glad to read of more women in the medical world. Alongside a cure for cancer, the story depicted the personal lives of a group of friends too.

I loved that the author showed bith sides of the story, from both Julia and Rea, with them narrating their points of view. You read on excitedly knowing that a twist is surely going to come, and with an unreliable narrator, anything can happen!

It's a page-turning thriller with a great plot twist that you just don't see coming.

I really enjoyed it. The pace felt right, the characters were that perfect blend of suspicious but likeable but flawed. The thriller aspect of the book was perhaps a little predictable but its still fun and enthralling to read and the medical ethical bits are really interesting - I'm not sure id like to admit who I side with!

Disappointing.

A slow burn tale that didn’t read like a thriller. Predictable in some parts and beyond credibility in others. It clearly has appeal for some readers, but I’m afraid it wasn’t for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my advance copy. This is my unbiased review.

This book took me by surprise. I hopped in to read it because I saw that Adventures With Words were doing a readalong over on Instagram and went in basically blind and I was pleasantly surprised!

Rea Dharmasena and Julia Stone have been best friends since they were young. Both are doctors and going for the same research job. The book draws you in with a traumatic accident in A&E that Rea attends and discovers that it's her best friend and roommate, Feng Tanaka. Rea had recently received a voicemail from him saying that he needed to talk to her about Julia. At this point I am hooked already.

Julia and Rea are both flawed characters in their own ways. Julia is desperate for this research job and will stop at nothing to get it. Rea thinks Julia has stolen her work in order to get it and the two have a falling out. Julia thrives in the job and is convinced she has found a cure for cancer. This is where it gets interesting.

Julia is murdered but who did it? Who has motive? What really happened? I cannot give too much away about the plot because there are just so many twists and turns. The writing is totally gripping.

Rea ends up taking over Julia's job as she is the best person to carry on her research but she discovers a lot more than she intends to. I really enjoyed this one!

Confession - this is not my usual sort of read, as I rarely pick up thrillers or crime fiction. But I did enjoy this quick-paced read. Strong characters, plenty of twists and turns and an unusual premise made this an easy book to get lost in for a few hours. Makes me think I should stumble into a thriller or two more often - so that’s a win. Great for a spot of pacey, well-plottted escapism.

I recommend this book- everything is not as it seems! Rea and Julia were very close friends, but their relationship began to be strained and tense at times. They are both involved in medical research, trying to find cures for primarily cancer. It’s atmospheric, at times dark and full of surprises- overall an absorbing novel with a very apt title!
