Love, lies, friendship, betrayal, murder and more! This was a thrilling, original and compelling read, which left me turning the pages as quickly as I could. It was extremely well written, and I enjoyed that the story was set in the medical world (my daughter is an oncology registrar so I found it particularly interesting). I loved the book – until I reached the final 10% where my enthusiasm began to wane. The ending was beyond the realms of believability and unfortunately took the edge off an otherwise brilliant read. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read the ARC in return for an honest review.

This was a really fun and addictive read set in the world of medicine, exploring competitiveness and female rivalry.

It opens with Rhea, who is at work when there’s an emergency. A new patient has been brought in. It’s Feng, her colleague and best friend. He was researching into Julia’s death. But it seems there were deadly consequences...
Rewind about a year ago. Julia and Rhea are best friends. They met in secondary school. Rhea was recovering from an accident which left with chronic pain as a result of an intense operation and Julia’s sister, Amy, was battling cancer. Rhea and Julia both had long illnesses in common and an interest in medicine. They ended up going university together and working together. They’re both up for the same competitive research post. Julia gets the job. But their relationship cracks when it’s revealed Julia used dubious methods to get the job, including using Rhea’s own PhD for her pitch and after “advising” Rhea not to use it herself. After a awhile Julia is immersed in her research until one tragic day when she’s found dead in her flat. Her jobs opens up for Rhea. But does Rhea have it in her to kill for the job?...

This was a compelling read. First you feel the story is going in one direction, then it suddenly pivots. I raced through this read. It was gripping. I liked the details regarding Rhea’s condition. I thought the characters and the medical setting gave this book a refreshingly original feel compared to most other thrillers. I did find the last 10% a bit puzzling. I wasn’t sure if some of the twists worked. The resolution felt too easy and one character’s actions in particular didn’t seem consistent and seemed randomly inserted to wrap the story up. It’s tricky to explain without giving the ending away.
Nonetheless this was a fun read and I did enjoy the ride.

I loved that this book had such a unique storyline and setting. It was nice to have something fresh and that didn't feel like I'd read it a million times already. I was just so sucked into this book. Its one of those ones that I found myself reaching for every spare second I had in my day because I just couldn't wait to see what happened next. I was just constantly trying to figure it all out and turns out, I didn't have a clue lol. Love, love, love

I very much enjoyed this thriller set in the medical world where the protagonists are set in a collision course following their professional rivalry, which ends with one of them being killed and the other thrown into a vortex of fear and suspicion.
