To All the Dogs I've Loved Before by Lizzie Shane

First love gets a second chance when a mischievous dog finds a way to keep fetching the town librarian’s high school sweetheart in this charming small-town romance.

The last person librarian Elinor Rodriguez wants to spend time with is her first love, Levi Jackson, but it seems her mischievous rescue dog has other ideas. Without fail, Dory slips from the house whenever Elinor’s back is turned. And in Pine Hollow, calls about a dog herding cars on Main Street go straight to Levi. The quietly intense lawman broke Elinor’s heart once, and now she’s determined to move on, no matter how much she misses him.

This is a light-hearted, sweet and easy book to read. I read the first book in the series, but not the second - however I found that this book worked well as a standalone. A predictable plot with Hallmark Movie vibes.

Rating 4/5

Book was archived before I had an opportunity to read unfortunately which is a shame as I loved the sound of it.

This was such a cute read!

Though it is part of a series it can be read as a standalone which is what I did.

I loved our main characters and how they each had their struggles. They weren't perfect but that just made them more relatable.

I'm definitely going to be picking up the other books in this series!

Elinor Rodriguez would love to spend time with her first love, the delightful Levi Jackson. He broke her heart and no matter how determined she is to move on from him, she still misses him.

Her dog has other ideas. The mischievous Dory escapes into the street, calling lawman Levi to the scene to deal with the commotion. Levi always saw Elinor as being far too good for him, that being part of the reason he broke off their engagement so many years ago. Still, he adores her.

While neither of them is able to fix the relationship between them, Dory might just be the one that helps. Accidentally.

Shane's writing is always fun and, while this doesn't have quite the same ceaseless joy of the previous two in the series, it is a delightful read, nonetheless. I found that the approach to the off-page past romance to intermittently be moving and so-so. However, there's a neatness to the story that is appreciated.

This was such an a-dory-ble read! ;)

Throughout this novel we follow high school sweethearts Elinor and Levi, as they tackle their feelings for each other as well as trying to tackle Elinor’s escapist dog Dory who climbs out of the house any time she is left alone.

This novel has so many of my favourite tropes, and a little something for anyone who reads romance, you’ve got enemy’s to lovers, childhood friends to lovers AND second chance romance. I also loved reading the little snippets of the village newspaper, it gave it a different element that I found so entertaining. (Also did I mention Dory, the cute little Aussie pup? I think she needs mentioning again.)

I loved the dyslexia rep in this book. I feel like I don’t read about learning difficulties nearly as much as I should, and the way that Elinor understood exactly what Levi needed help with at any given time warmed my heart so much.

This was the most perfect little rom-com and I’m definitely going to read Lizzie Shane’s backlist because I can’t wait to read about more adorable puppies!

Thank you to NetGalley, the Author and the Publisher with providing me with an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Although I partially picked up this book as I loved the title, the book luckily didn't peak at the title! Although this was part of a series, this could definitely be read as a standalone too which I really enjoyed. I loved the representation of counselling in the book, especially as the discussions in that setting gave the reader an insight into Levi's thoughts and feelings and made him more of a three-dimensional character.

In summary, this was a great light and fluffy read that will leave you with a warm feeling.

Elinor and Levi have been broken up for over 3 years, but when fate and a little help from your furry friend feel you belong together, it's very hard to argue.

Such a joyous and delightful read!
Full of animals, friendship and family.

I loved these characters! I cried when Elinor cried, I loved how Levi spoke to Dory the dog and I loved the village newsletter of gossip!

Shane writes a novel with so much love it genuinely had me emotional at times.

Each character showed beautiful flaws; all meant in the right places and it was wonderful to read.

Another book I couldn't put down in 2022

Make no bones about it, Dory is the star about it. She is a pawsome escape artist and her antics never failed to make me giggle, plus wonder at how intelligent she is to keep outsmarting everyone.

Levi is the chief of police in Pine Hollow, and seems to be the resident dog rustler when Dory inevitably escapes.

Just the small problem of needing to return her to his ex fiancée each time, which is rather awkward for them both, especially with the town newsletter basically being a gossip column, continually speculating on their relationship status!

I loved being back in Pine Hollow with so many familiar faces both human and canine.

Lizzy Shane writes about dogs so well, in addition to small town romances that in this case kept me hooked as to whether the pair would ever resolve their differences or not.

And I enjoyed getting to know Elinor's sisters, her friends and along with Elinor discovering just what the real reason was that Levi broke up with her 3 years ago.

I couldn't get enough of this book, and loved every single second of it. I'm already crossing my fingers that there will be more from Pine Hollow as I'm loving this series more and more with each book (and I completely adored book 1!).

Thank you to Headline Eternal and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone.
It is the first Pine Hollow book that I have read and its really cute.

Dory is Elinor's rescue dog and is very mischievous. She keeps escaping and playing around town while Elinor is in work.
This leads to the police chief, Levi, needing to catch her.
The problem is that Levi is Elinor's ex-fiance, her first love that broke her heart.
But Dory has her own plans to give these two a second chance at love.

I love Levi in this story, I thought his character was great and really showed growth and healing throughout.
At first I wasn't sure on Elinor, I didnt connect with her character until further into the book.

Overall, a great read and I will be looking for the other books in the series.

Elinor and Levi are the perfect couple and Dory is a little mischievous dog that knows something and will always bring them together one way or another.
Dory is a rescue dog that will always find a way to escape and makes up for really comical scenes. In the haste of finding Dory, Elinor and Levi will rediscover their feelings for each other.
Second chance romance with a heartwarming story and some topics that in my opinion should be talked more and maybe the awareness of what it actually implies and how it can challenge a person’s life every day it should be acknowledged more.
I haven’t read the other books in the series but I will surely look up for them because this one was a delight and sometimes we need a few hours of laughter and romance.

Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy.

I just read book 1 in this series (although you can read them all as standalones too) a few weeks ago and this is book 3 which just came out last week!

I was so excited and happy to return to Pine Hollow, which is the cutest town that this series is set in! I really enjoyed this book, it was a really slow burn and a lot of background was given to the characters and their story and I appreciated that I got to know so much about them and their story.

This was christmassy but not too full on, it’s set before, during and after Christmas into the next year so if your looking to just dip your toe into a festive-ish book then this would be perfect.

If you love second chance romance, friends to lovers, dogs and sweet small towns then you’ll really enjoy this.

The vibe of this series for me is Stars Hollow meets Hallmark which honestly is kinda dreamy for me 😂

Here is the blurb…
“The last person Elinor Rodriguez wants to spend time with is her first love, Levi Jackson. The quietly intense lawman broke Elinor's heart once before, and she's determined to never risk trusting him again. Unfortunately, her mischievous rescue dog seems to have other plans. Somehow Dory always manages to escape Elinor at the worst possible moment. And in the small town of Pine Hollow, Levi is the man to call when a dog is disrupting traffic.

As the kid who barely graduated - and still struggles to hide his dyslexia - Levi always believed that Elinor was way out of his league. Even though he ended their engagement all those years ago, Elinor continues to take Levi's breath away whenever he sees her. Now, with a little help from a four-legged friend, Levi and Elinor may just get the second chance they deserve.”

You have to love a book with a dog as the matchmaker - and the book and Dory deliver! The romance is old and over but the fires aren’t quite out. We follow Elinor and Levi in small town America as they come to terms with everyone knowing their business and having words and opinions to share. Each chapter is introduced by an extract from the newsletter of the town, written by a busy body. The friendship groups are fun and entertaining and add life to the tale. Dory the dog is an escape artist and helps move the story along. Some hard topics around reading, delinquency and dyslexia are covered sensitively. Good read.

A great read, the latest in this series.

Elinor adopted Dory, a mischievous dog who ends up with Levi, Elinor's ex and local law man, chasing her all over town.
Will it be a second chance romance for Levi and Elinor as Dory brings them together?

As soon as I saw the title and cover I just knew I had to read this! I instantly thought of my other favorite romcom To All The Boys… This was very much along this theme. I just love these kind of fell good novels.

Sometimes a second chance at first love requires a little push...

I loved Elinor and Levi’s chemistry and how they came back together through of all things a dog! As a huge dog lover I thought this was sweet, romantic, and a really great read!
