The girls have always been friends now last to get married Rachael’s Poppy already feels like the odd one out of the girls. She's starting to feel pushed out as well. This is a nice fun read.

Four and a half Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭒
No Ex Before Marriage by Portia MacIntosh is a delightful romp in London and Scotland that had me laughing out loud and perhaps a sniffle or two during the emotional scenes.

Poppy is the only one left of her four friends who isn’t married. It isn’t like she tried, she was the first of her four friends to marry, but the marriage ended in divorce several years ago. Then her father breaks the news to her that her divorce was never validated and she’s still technically married to Zac. But, Zac is headed to Scotland to marry a social influencer who is the daughter of a rock star. With only a couple of days before the wedding, Poppy heads up to Scotland to a remote castle to give Zac the papers so he can sign them before he gets married.

Poppy is a character that I can relate to. She’s fed up with her friends excluding her on their “Wives Only” nights out. She always has the best intentions, but some of her escapades go hilariously wrong. When she meets Kat, a distant relative of one of her friends, they hit it off immediately and Poppy and Kat together make a hilarious team.

This book is mostly about friendships and how they, like other relationships, need to be nurtured to be healthy. Although there is a romance, and it’s a good one, the book is mainly about the women around Poppy and how those relationships affect her.

The book is fun, with many laugh-out-loud moments, but also has some emotional moments that took me from laughing to tearing up. The scenes in the book are sometimes funny and sometimes very heartbreaking and I was on an emotional roller coaster (in a good way!) throughout the entire book. The settings are vividly described, and I felt like I was sneaking around the castle along with Poppy and Cat.
No Ex Before Marriage is perfect for anyone who enjoys women’s fiction and romantic comedy. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

So, I am beginning to think that Macintosh can do no wrong!
Her books are always so fun, so lighthearted and offer up a great escape from reality.

This was no different! We had a great sidekick, a dash of mystery, a main character we could all rally behind and cheer on and this was just a delight.

Definitely pick this one up for a great, quick read!

Portia MacIntosh delivers a super cute and funny romance !

With her "divorcee" status, 30 something Poppy apparently belongs to the singles table at weddings and doesn't fit anymore in the "couples only" activities her best friends now organize with their husbands.
While she's on the brink of finally starting something new, Poppy discovers that her ex husband might not really be her ex, and still be her husband before the law.

Poppy is genuinely a good person who's trying to do right thing by... crashing her ex's wedding.

What I loved :
- Kat, such a funny sidekick
- the mysterious events happening in the castle
- discovering how Poppy and Zac's relationship blossomed during teenage leading them to marriage and divorce.

It's hilarious and lovely... and I love Scotland so it's 4 stars for me !

This book gave me "Sweet Home Alabama" vibes in all the best ways!

Poppy is thirty years old and already divorced. Things didn't work out between her and the love of her life, Zac Hunt, and they were engaged, married, and divorced all before they turned 26.

As the only remaining single friend in her friend group, she's starting to feel isolated from her best friends and their now-husbands, with their social lives now entirely dedicated to couples' activities she is no longer invited to.

Banished to the singles' table at her friend's wedding, she meets Kat, a cousin of the groom who encourages her to go after some of the wild fun she used to have before her marriage ended.

But her plans are quickly derailed by the revelation that her divorce papers were never actually filed. And her ex-husband, who she's had no communication with for years, is getting re-married in less than a week. Poppy and Kat head out to the remote island (because of course) where Zac is getting married to finalize their divorce, but seeing Zac again makes her realize that a divorce may have never been what she wanted...

This book was heartwarming, funny, and all around such a feel-good read!

I have read quite a few Portia MacIntosh books and loved them all. This one had a deeper, more emotional feel to it, though. For a start, the romance centered around a couple who had already had a relationship and believed themselves to be divorced. As the story progressed, there are flashback memories of how they met and the at times heartbreaking moments they went through. This is interspersed with the current day story of the heroine’s adventures madcap with a new friend as they race to stop her ex’s wedding. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster! This book had me laughing, crying and remembering my own teenage years. I loved the emphasis on female friendships along with the great ending!

Well just when I though I couldn't love Portia Macintosh books anymore than I do....boom! Out comes another, which I have to say, in my honest opinion, is my favourite so far!
Poppy is feeling left out by her 3 closest friends who are all happily married and are now going out in couple's without her, Poppy has already been married and is now divorced at 30 years old. At the beginning of the story, Poppy is at one of her friends weddings and she is sat at the "singles" table much to her horror. However, she begins a friendship with Kat and a wild night out ensues.
When Poppy wakes up from the wild night out, she gets a call from her dad, who is telling her that she isn't divorced due to a formality and she must find her husband Zac to get him to sign the paperwork before he gets married to his girlfriend, Lilac, who is the daughter of a famous actor.
Poppy and Kat go on a road trip to the castle in Scotland to try and get this paperwork signed, what could possibly go wrong.
This book is just fab, it's funny, there is emotion and sensitive parts throughout, as you go from present day to finding out more about Poppy and Zac's marriage. All I can say is, that this book, is just what you need for the long January evenings, it will definitely brighten those up!

I really enjoyed this heartwarming story. 😍

Poppy is thirty years old and already divorced. Meanwhile her besties are all married or getting married and they seem to be leaving her out of their social loop. It's as if her divorced status is contagious. While attending her friend Rachels wedding as a bridesmaid she is mortified to see that she has been relegated to the *Singles* table. Dreading the evening she has ahead she is surprised to meet Kat, the cousin of the groom, and they hit it off immediately. Kat is a little wild, a little whacky, and a lot of fun to be around. Maybe this night won't be so bad after all.

Waking up the next day hungover from the wild night before she receives shocking news. Her divorce from Zac never happened. The paperwork was never filed. It has been six years since she last seen him and to make matters worse she finds out online that he is due to be married to an Instagram influencer who just so happens to be the daughter of a famous actor. Their wedding is at a secluded castle in Scotland. By hell or highwater she needs to figure out a way to get to Scotland so he can sign the papers for their divorce to be finalized and only then can he legally get married to his fiancé. Sounds simple, right?

With Kat by her side, this dynamic duo decide to take a road trip to Scotland. What could possibly go wrong with her crashing her soon to be ex-husbands wedding? Expect shenanigans!

First of all I loved Poppy and Kat which made this book a pleasure to read. Everyone should have friends like these. This book isn't all lighthearted. Poppy is dealing with the loss of her mother and also the reason behind why her and Zac got divorced broke my heart. Even though I thought this book was a bit predictable I still loved every minute of it. Especially the ending. I always love when I turn the final page with a smile on my face. 4 stars!

A quick and easy read that I found myself picking up after a long day to unwind. The characters are beautifully written and I came to love them within the first few pages and was rooting for them all the way to the end. At times I wanted to stop reading because I just wanted the experience to go on for longer.

A new Portia MacIntosh book…yes please! This new piece of work did not disappoint.

I’m a big fan of the author and have her up there with my go-to reads (Jo Watson, Mhairi McFarlane, Lindsey Kelk).

No Ex Before Marriage was a great read. The story centres around Poppy, with supporting characters in her dad, her group of friends, her new-found friend Kat and her ex-husband Zac.

I really didn’t know which way this book would go. But the direction it took was perfect.

The love between Poppy and Zac was wonderful and could be felt through the authors writing. The flashbacks reinforced this and had the reader rooting for them.

My only query with the story was the need for Fred? I thought he might have a bigger role or appear at the castle - there was mention of someone attending called Freddie, and I assumed this would be him.

I couldn’t put this book down and was disappointed when I finished it. I guess we now just have to wait for Portia’s next book!!

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review 📚

I quite enjoyed this. We had a likeable heroine in Poppy and a crazy but fun scenario with her ex Zac. The flashbacks to the start of their romance and what went wrong for them were sweet, funny and heartbreaking. The mix of characters was fun as well (Kat was awesome!) l though k do wish we had seen a little more depth in Lilac before the end of the book. Overall a quick but enjoyable romance (3.75 ⭐️).

A really fun, romantic, sometimes heartbreaking and emotional book. Poppy and Zac were likeable leads. There was good use of flashbacks and some really funny and random characters as well. Really liked Poppy’s dad and her new friend Kat who was chaotic fun!well worth a read.

I always have fun reading Portia Macintosh’s books. She has original characters and funny dialogue. I love the sense of hanging out with a set of English friends and listening in on their conversations.

In this novel, Poppy rushes to tell her ex (whom she still loves) that they are still married on the eve of his marrying a super-wealthy social media influencer. She and her hilarious new friend, drive up to Scotland to hang out at the Scottish castle where the wedding is scheduled to take place.

Of course, ridiculous hijinks ensue as Kat and her ex, Zac, realize that they never should have divorced in the first place. It’s all very sweet and fun.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

Portias books are just so popular at our location. They are fun, fresh, and funny. Always a new concept and she manages to our then out so quickly I don’t know how she does it! I loved this one because the storyline was unique and I was flipping through the pages like a house on fire. I loved wedding themed novels and I was so curious to see how this needed up! Loved every second! Can’t wait for her next!

Ah, well this is soooo much fun. A story of new beginnings, starting again, but going backwards to go forwards...
Kat is an absolutely hilarious character and I watched with trepidation what she may or may not do next.
Light hearted, cheeky, some cringe and some giggle moments.
Poppy's dad when he appears is also highly entertaining.
Fun factor.
