Enjoying Rum gives you the history of rum, how it's made, and who are the makers.
It's a little disappointing there weren't many cocktail recipes.

I've learned so many things about rum and its history and how it's made. It also contains a journal which is useful in the journey of enjoying rum. And yes, before reading this book I've never heard of Tanduay but now I will keep an eye on it.

There is more than meets the eye when it comes to rum, and Flannery quick book on rum will give readers a taste of this drink. History, tasting notes, big named rum, and even an exploration at many kinds of rum are all packed into this book. Those interested in documenting tasting notes of each rum will appreciate the tasting note sheets at the end of the book. Plus, the recipes sound terrific!

I certainly learned a lot about rum through this book. A great, fast read into this drink.

This book would make an ideal gift for any rum drinker (along with a bottle of course).
The book covers the following :-
Brief history of rum
Making of rum
How to read labels
Tasting
Rum cocktails
Tasting notes
I feel that the tasting notes take up a large part of the book, and I personally would have preferred more cocktail recipes.
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for this read.

Perfect for anyone who enjoys Rum, this book includes a short history, how rum is made, cocktail ideas, what to consider when tasting, and a guide sheet to complete after each tasting. It has plenty of photos to illustrate it too. I also really enjoyed ‘Enjoying Bourbon’ written in a similar format by the same author. Thank you to Frank Flannery, Net Galley and Quarto for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A super interesting guide on the history, making, and varieties of rum! I liked that it also went through popular brands that the average person knows, such as Bacardi and Captain Morgan, and also included recipes and popular rum drinks.

I like rum, especially spiced and dark rums, so thought this would be an interesting book to check out.

The author provides high level information about the history of rum, how rum is made, how to read labels, tasting rum, a spotlight on some famous rums (Bacardi, Captain Morgan [one of my favs], Mount Gay, Appleton and El Dorado) and a handful of rum cocktails. At the end, there are almost 60 pages so you can journal as you taste different rums.

I read it as an ebook ... it works better as a book book because you are invited to write in the book and use it as your tasting journal. It would be handy if a link was provided so you could download a printable pdf and can keep track of the same info for your future reference.

A detailed book on Rum from its history to how it is made and who makes it. There are plenty of photographs to accompany its history.

The book provides details on some of the main rum drinks you can purchase in the shops (Barcadi, Captain Morgan) along with 6 simple cocktail recipes (each one has a photograph). There are also many pages for you to put your own tasting notes in each time you try a new rum.

I certainly learn much about rum and found it useful. Next time I'm in the supermarket I will be able to read the labels with more understanding. I have already looked at the rum bottle I have at home and now know more about it from the information contained within this book; had thought it was a good one, but from the information on the label, its got lots of extras added rather than made in the distilling process!

I would have liked more cocktail recipes in the book to try and perhaps fewer tasting note pages.

I received this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.

I thought this was a brilliant book, especially as it was about my favourite tipple! Lots of interesting facts and tasting tips that I had no clue about before.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

Quick read on all things rum. It starts with a history on rum and how it’s made. There are some really interesting things I didn’t know and I’m a rum drinker. The book includes a few rum recipes but the really neat thing is the pages in the back so that you can use while tasting different rums. It would be really cool to use with some friends and different types of rum.

I adore rum, and I love a good rum cocktail. I was really excited to learn something new, and get some inspiration from this book.

I feel a little bit disappointed. I was really hoping for lots of cocktail recipes - i didn't get that. I did get lots of (too many) blank journal pages, and lots of (too many) pages about the history of rum. I liked knowing more about locations and history, but not in as much detail as this book provides - a lot went over my head to be honest. Also, there are far too many pages at the end for journalling and note taking. I really like this idea, but there was just too much 0f it.
Disappointing book - not enough substance for me!

Enjoying Rum provides an in-depth history of the evolution of rum, its manufacturing and the most well-known brands. Specifics about how various tones are produced in rum and how to identify them are very detailed and will turn anyone into a rum expert. The last 2/3 of the book are essentially worksheets for evaluating rum for tones, flavors, quality, etc. so that eventually you will have your own portfolio of rums you enjoy (or don't enjoy). There were only a handful of rum recipes and they were just the old standards like mai tai, daiquiri, and the dark & stormy. I was hoping there would be some lesser-known recipes to better highlight the versatility of rum.

This is an interesting book!

As a rum drinker I'm always interested in learning more. This book talks about the disputed history of rum and how it's made. It also talks about the differences in types of rum - like silver or aged - and different brands of rum.

About half of the book is the journal portion that is broken down by how the rum is served, tasting notes, where it fits on the spectrum of flavor, and room for notes. There are also recipes included for standard rum-centric drinks like mai tais and daquiris.

I was hoping for a few more recipes and history, but it's an interesting read.

Thanks NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – White Lion for the this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am not much of a drinker. I drink in social occasions but I've always been fascinated by the making of alcohol and lets be honest I love liquor bottles they are so pretty to look at.
I've had Rum before but I can't say that knew much about it before this book.
This was such a delight to read from the introduction you get the sense that you're talking to a friend and they're giving you the ins and outs of Rum.
From the history of it to some cool party drinks.
This book really goes into detail about the making of the product. It talks about reading the labels and tasting it, it talks about the famous Rums that we've probably had or at least seen.
The cocktail recipes were such a good add because you feel like you can in some way put what you've learned to the test.

& best of all this has "Tasting Notes" were you can write down knowledge of what you're drinking.

So I will be adding this to the cookbook shelf because it's honestly such a great addition.
