I really enjoyed this prequel. I kept trying to turn the page.....The first chapters with his parents are a hoot and then the connection between Cooper and Nora was so hot it burned off the pages....Can"t wait for more.

I really enjoyed Cooper’s and Nora’s story. Cooper’s parents are hilarious but I knew that from The Reunion. And I knew how Cooper’s and Nora’s story ended, but I loved reading about The One Night that led to it all.

This one is sweet and sexy and entirely too short.
The premise of loving parents deciding to take their newly divorced son out for night on the town in search of a nice girl is developed as adorably as it sounds.
Cooper might think this is the most embarrassing thing to ever happen to him, but he's in for a great surprise when they actually manage to find him one. Too bad that it's his ex-wife's best friend. Nora is stressed and looking for a relaxing night when old family friends show up at the dive bar she's sitting in with their very handsome, recently divorced son in tow. Too bad that he's her best friend's ex-husband. Thus begins a night of banter, chemistry, and some very sexy fun times.
I loved everything about both characters (and Cooper's parents) and would love to see the fallout/results of this One Night. A truly delicious amuse-bouche novella.

Very happy thanks to NetGalley and Montlake for the fun read!

The One Night is a cute and fun novella about Cooper who has been divorced for about a year when his parents push him to go out and meet someone while they act as his wingmen. While out, they run into Nora, an old friend of the family, and Cooper's parents push them to hang out for the night. There is some weirdness because they probably shouldn't be getting to know each other in any kind of romantic way, yet they seem to hit it off and their interactions and conversation are all very easy.

I found the book interesting and engaging and well written but nothing exceptional. The novella appears to be more of an introduction to a possible future full book, which I was not aware of, but I would definitely be interested in reading it in the future if that is the case.

I’m on the fence here, I loved it until the last paragraph! The book is actually a sort of prequel to The Reunion. Did I read about that first? Of course not. But I’m glad I didn’t because now I have something to look forward to. These two never took their meeting seriously, it was an impromptu thing brought on by his parents. They took the night wherever they wanted and it was glorious. Although they’ve known each other forever, friends of family and friends of exes, it seemed like they were meeting on a different level. It’s always fun to receive early copies so I give an early honest review.

This may be only a novella, but it was chock full of some laugh out loud, eye rolling, sweet and smexy moments…as well as a palm to forehead slapping one that has me looking forward to all that will happen in The Reunion.

As this is just a tease, I won’t get too deep into much, but I have to put this out there. I really, really like Nora. I may have only gotten a minute with her, but she’s turning out to be my kind of girl. Cooper? I like him, I do, especially when he stops having conversations with himself in his head, but he is a good guy.

So, time to wait for The Reunion to see just how everything will play out…

This was a fun, light novella, but it feels more like the prologue for a novel, which I guess in a way it is. I feel like generally novellas are a bit more complete than this. This book felt unfinished.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Publishing for providing me access to this eARC for my honest opinion!

I absolutely loved this adorable novella that sets up Quinns upcoming book the Reunion. This was the perfect setting setter as now I need the full book ASAP. This book introduces us to Cooper, one of three kids who will be featured in the Reunion along with his meddling but oh so adorable parents. If they were my parents I would want them to set me up.

This prelude is about Cooper and Nora who have a past that could impact their future of romance. Not going to go into details about how they know each other but it will not be an easy road for them. I loved Nora and can't wait to learn more about her. She's feisty and speaks her mind and that's what Cooper needs.

Quinns normal humor is here and I honestly can't wait to read the full book when it comes out.

The One Night by Meghan Quinn is the perfect holiday tease while we wait for more Chance family adventures in February in The Reunion.

"Something dimmed inside me after the divorce, and she just turned on the light."

After finalizing his divorce from his wife a year ago, Cooper Chance found himself perfectly content to (occasionally) spend a Friday night hanging out with his parents. But Cooper's parents had other ideas. Tired of seeing him alone and closed off, they haul him out on a Friday night and volunteer to be his wingmen. As if that wasn't embarrassing enough, the woman they zero in on is none other than Nora, his ex-wife's best friend and all around friend of the Chance family. Cooper knows spending time with Nora will be awkward, but then they actually start talking. . . Nora has had a lot of alone time recently herself, and she can't help but notice that her childhood friend is pretty attractive when he finally gets around to smiling. But the guilt over sleeping with your ex-wife's best friend can be a powerful thing, and Cooper can't help but feel that his one night with Nora has ruined everything.

This novella was a perfect sampling to lead into The Reunion. While the full-length novel focuses on the Chance family as a whole, The One Night sets up so much potential drama for the upcoming book and I can't wait to see Cooper and Nora the next time they run into each other. As a novella, this was a quick read, but I loved Nora and Cooper's interactions so much that I probably would've devoured this just as quickly had it been a full-length novel. Normally, if a character does what Cooper did at the end of The One Night I would absolutely hate him, but I'm actually super excited to see what happens next when they meet up in The Reunion. I just know it's going to be fire on the page.

I would definitely recommend reading The One Night before diving into The Reunion. Quinn gave us backstory, introductions, and plenty of character development in this novella. This introduction to Martin and Peggy Chance was hilarious and really gave us insight into who they are as parents; it will be very interesting to see how they end up celebrating their anniversary and what they will do to Cooper when they inevitably find out what happened after they left him with Nora at the bar. Quinn might have written The One Night to tease us until The Reunion is released, but she did more than tease when it came to the spice in this novella. It is slow-burn, and a bit more reserved than some of Quinn's other books, but you can tell The Reunion is going to more than make up for it.

A huge thank you to Montlake for providing an advanced review copy of The One Night via Netgalley.

What a fantastic start to Cooper and Nora's story; a sample of what's to come with just the right amount of chemistry, amusing banter, and steam to make you want to stay in this fictitious world. February can’t come soon enough.

Nora is extremely clever, and wit and sass seemed to flow naturally for her. She was running her family business, a bakery, and as wedding season was just around the corner, she had been running herself ragged. At a little hole in the wall bar, she was set to allow herself some down time, and it worked, at least for a few minutes.

Cooper immediately captured my heart; his love and gratitude for his parents were clear from the first pages. He'd recently divorced, and although doing a job he despised, he appeared to be on his way to obtaining a job he enjoyed, until his parents decided to meddle in his life in the most hilariously embarrassing of ways. Nora gave him an opportunity to get out of his own head, and that's when he revealed his innate wit and charm.

The chemistry between Cooper and Nora was sparked by their banter. They both fell into an easy, engaging dialogue, and it was through that back and forth that the fire between them burned hotter. It was like with every witty retort, you could feel the stress they had been shouldering lessen. It was just effortless between them, until the morning after the one night, when the reality of what transpired turned into overwhelming guilt.

The One Night is a prequel that features smoldering chemistry, a charming hero, a cheeky heroine, a drop of feelings, a taste of what's to come, and the most epic meddling parents that have ever existed, all of which come together to form an engrossing new world created by Meghan Quinn.

So, I was very excited about this book when I started it. I know that it was a short story, but I was a little disappointed. I wish that the sex scene was longer, and I wish the sex scene was more descriptive. The entire point of this short story was leading up to the sex scene, so it was a little underwhelming.

It was good for the number of pages it was, but I do wish it was longer as well because I would have loved to see the consequences of what happened.

Cooper hasn’t really gotten out much since his divorce, but when is parents become his wingmen and force him to go out, he happens to cross paths with his ex-wife’s best friend, Nora. This isn’t the first time they have met, but it is the first time the two of them have really noticed each other. They get to know each other on a deeper level in a short amount of time.
There is an instant connection between Cooper and Nora, but there are some doubts between them because of Cooper’s ex and Nora’s best friend. Those are lines they don’t really want to cross, however, with chemistry like what they have you don’t really want to miss out on a chance either.
I loved these two characters and loved the little bits and pieces that were given of their families. I can’t wait for more of these characters and to see where things go with Cooper and Nora!
If you’re looking for a rom com novella this is one to read!

Well, this is definitely the start of an intriguing new story. A quick read but quite fun in a way that Meghan Quinn absolutely does right. A few little twists that should make for a fun, explosive story too. Chance's parents are a total hoot and them offering to be his wing people had me rolling. In the end, he meets up with someone he already knows, someone who has to be off limits right? I mean, she IS his ex-wife's bestie. What could go wrong? I'm looking forward to reading more about these two.

Cooper Chance needs to get out more, according to his parents. He's recently divorced and stuck in a rut. When Cooper's parents insist on being his wingman/wingwoman they end up in a dive bar. Nora McHale just wanted to be left alone at the bar to have a drink after a long day, not bumping into her best friend's ex-husband. Like most parents, the Chances have the best of intentions, which causes one of the worst possible outcomes.

I adored this novella. In true Meghan Quinn form, it had me laughing from the first chapter. Cooper's parents are adorable, add in an ex-wife's best friend, a one-night stand, and some ghosting? Yes, please. While there is no hea here, I'm sure there's going to be one in The Reunion, which I can not wait to get my hands on!

Cooper meets Nora at the bar when his parents take him for a fun night out, them being his wingmen. Cooper used to be married to Nora's best friend, but that relationship is over. Cooper and Nora end up sleeping together and I guess we get the rest of the story in the next book, The Reunion.

I loved Cooper's parents, they were hilarious! I'm curious about the rest of the Chance siblings (their stories are told in The Reunion). This was a short and fun read! Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.

Will say that I didn’t realize 1.) that this was a novella, or 2.) that this was a precursor to the authors next release in February 2022. However, it was a quick read that I enjoyed and (considering this does not have a HEA), I may need to read the book after this.

A Meghan Quinn book never disappoints, even when it’s only novella length. Her trademark banter between the main characters was on full display and had me laughing! Nora and Cooper grew up together but never knew each other that well - and Nora is Cooper’s ex-wife’s best friend. The One Night focuses on just that - one night, where they realize something could really be between them - and it looks like their story continues in The Reunion, which comes out in February. Can’t wait to read it and finish their story!

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the advanced copy of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The One Night is a quick read! I wasn't expecting it to be short, but even so worth the read! Now, I want to go back and read more from Meghan!

Ahhh what a tease! But it was the best tease you can have in a book. In case you’re not aware, this is a short seven chapter prequel novella to a full length book, The Reunion being released later on. It sets up the scene of what’s to come in that book, and oh my it’s going to be a doozy!

Cooper has been doing a lot of reflecting since his divorce a year ago. He has been concentrating on his own health and personal growth. He is also a great son, who helps out his parents in many ways as they are aging. And in their own way of saying thank you, they decide to be his wingman / wingwoman and go out to a bar to find a new partner for him. Who do they come across, but an old family friend Nora. Once his parents leave, Cooper and Nora do hit it off and spend the rest of the night sharing food and a bed. The following morning Cooper realizes he’s made a mistake, one that could hurt Nora deeply if her best friend - Cooper’s ex wife - finds out about them. So he leaves without a word to Nora.

I’m already hooked! I love a hero who’s vulnerable and can see he has faults he’s trying to fix. Cooper is also very loyal and a family man. Can’t ask for much better really. Nora….oh I want to be her friend, and it’s not just because of the cake either! She’s fun to be around, and knows her own self worth. I can only surmise that it’s going to be one fiery reunion before they reach their HEA.

I was beyond excited to get this ARC as Meghan Quinn is my queen. This is a novella that precedes her upcoming novel, The Reunion (coming February 2022). The story includes much of the ridiculousness that is trademark of Meghan’s books (in the form of meddlesome parents) so be prepared to laugh. I just imagine Meghan sitting at her laptop, laughing as she furiously types out some of these scenes.

I loved this glimpse into the stories that will make up her upcoming novel. I’m already annoyed at Cooper but still want to see how this relationship will be resolved. The ending to this novella wasn’t what I was expecting but I’m not entirely surprised that we have to wait to find out more. If the purpose of this novella was to get me excited for The Reunion - it worked!
