Unfortunately the poor quality of the ARC made it sometimes almost impossible to keep reading. Too many typos and repeats.

I just ordered the book on Amazon so I'll be able to give a better review soon.

Many thanks anyway for the ARC

Probably my favourite Heyer that I've read so far! I really liked Kit as a hero and the set-up of twins in disguise is always a hit. Cressy is underused and doesn't have enough agency, like so many of Heyer's heroines, but still a likeable character, and I loved her strange family. A fun read.

After two books, Heyer is now one of my favourite authors. There’s a wonderful wit to her work, and characters who are delightful and frustrating and funny. She has this way of really drawing a couple together, and planting seeds for those around them. If you like Regency Romance with witty, intelligent characters and plenty of moments of poking fun, reading Georgette Heyer feels like coming home – you can really see the way her inspiration has filtered through to modern Regency.

Kit Fancot knows when his twin brother is in trouble, and, sensing something amiss, he returns home from diplomatic service to discover Evelyn has disappeared. On top of that, his mother is struggling with her debt, and Evelyn is due to attend a dinner with his fiancée Cressy and her formidable grandmother. Lady Fancot convinces Kit to impersonate his brother, like they used to, for one single night, so Cressy’s grandmother can approve the marriage and besides, Evelyn can’t be gone for more than a few days more now, can he?

Of course things don’t go to plan, and Kit is forced to impersonate his brother for longer than he anticipated. You really feel for Kit, especially when some of the mess his family is in becomes more apparent. He wants to help them, but lacks the means to do so, all he can really do is try to ensure the marriage proceeds. But this is a Regency Romance, and Kit is our hero.

As for the other characters – Heyer surrounds Kit with women, from his well-meaning mother who cannot stop spending, to Cressy Stavely, to the Dowager Lady Stavely. Heyer knows when to poke fun – and what to poke fun at – and when to back off, and there are wonderful moments where the hypocrisy of certain characters is playfully highlighted.

The women in these books stand up for themselves, and here it is emphasised by her grandmother that Cressy must ensure she honestly likes the man she marries; her grandmother seems harsh and cruel at times, but she wants her granddaughter to be happy, and away from her difficult situation at home. There are some great moments with Kit’s mother, who is an absolute delight in so many ways. She comes across incredibly clueless at times, yet wonderfully intelligent at others, finding ways to slightly push buttons to get what she wants. She adores her sons and, in turn, is adored by them, who both just want to see their mother happy.

I absolutely adored how much of a presence she had, and even as an ‘older’ woman, she had her suitors and admirers, as well as being much loved by all who knew her. Every scene she was in had an extra spark.

If you like Regency Romance or want to dip your toe in, Heyer’s work is not to be missed, and truly not a bad place to start. Warm and fuzzies guaranteed!

Georgette Heyer is a master at Regency romance. I am trying this author second time around and she does not disappoint. Her description of Regency England with her characters and sayings just spark off the page. It’s a very easy book to read and you will not be disappointed in getting to know these wonderful characters from the witty Lady Danville to her twin sons Kit and Evelyn (so not alike in character) include Cressy a very modern heroine and you have a very wonderful comedy of errors.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

A light hearted read with interesting secondary character's . Bit too much dialogue and not enough action. I received a copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I loved Heyer's books in my youth so I was really excited to read them again! The writing is still wonderful, and full of proper Regency language and funny old-fashioned phrases. The pace was much slower though, compared to modern books in this genre. A lovely nostalgic read!

‘Kit’ is on leave from the diplomatic service returning home to find his mother on the brink of financial disaster and his twin brother Evelyn missing when the next evening Evelyn is expected to announce his engagement.. To try sort the mess out and to prevent outrage and become social pariahs Kit decides to save face until his brother returns by impersonating him. So starts a romantic if not farcical comedy of errors.
For some reason Georgette Heyer passed me by in my youth so I’m pretty new to her and have enjoyed all her books I have read so far. This one not quite as much, mainly because rather than find some characters amusing to me they were exasperating, particularly Kit and Evelyn’s mother, I just wanted to shake her , she wasn’t funny or amusing, to me selfish and just very silly.
A light romance but little else.

I'm always excited when I read a Heyer's book I didn't read before. This one was highly entertaining, witty, and well plotted.
A very pleasant, compelling, and highly entertaining story.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Another fantastic regency era story from Georgette Hayer. In this book the main focus is on Christopher, known as Kit. His twin brother is missing and although concerned for his welfare, it is also important to keep up appearances. So, Kit takes on the persona of his brother, Evelyn, and hopes no one notices!! Kit believes Evelyn is in trouble - financial at the least but is worried about what else he is involved in. Evelyn has just become betrothed so Kit diesnt want to jeopardise that... or at least he doesn't until he meets Cressy and is quite taken with her himself!

This is such a great book. There are some brilliant characters in here. I just adored Kit. He's so honest and decent. I loved Cressy too! As is the case with so many of the books from this author this book is witty, funny and romantic while also having a really engaging storyline. I love the animated exchanges and use of language. One person is described as having a 'maggots disposition' and another as being a 'spiteful toad'. I just love it. Georgette Hayer is fantastic at creating strong, outspoken female characters and men who are just so decent or lovable rogues!!

I rea.ly enjoyed this book which I received from the publisher via Netgalley with no promise of a favourable review.

What fun. Georgette Heyer, so good, always a delight to read one of her novels. Many have tried to emulate her, only a few succeed. Thank you for providing a free ARC in return for a frank opinion

There was something of a shakespearien farce about the plot with twins acting on behalf of their twin and hard of hearing relatives making misplaced comments and accidents galore. The novel spins on mistaken identity as one twin stands in for his absent brother after sensing something is amiss. An understanding fiancé and a suitably helpful if daft mother keep the plot moving and the plates just about keep spinning till the big reveal.

Good story...a twins changing places romp.

Lots of detailed knowledge and descriptions.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is Heyer getting a bit 'The Comedy of Errors' on us as a pair of eligible and identical twin brothers are introduced, one about to throw himself into a loveless mercenary marriage... no prizes for guessing the plot or the outcome!

This gets off to a slow start with lots of explanations and I found it hard to buy in to the twins' self-indulgent mother who is supposed to be charmingly ditsy, but who I found irritatingly hapless and rather silly.

All the same, Kit is one of Heyer's kind heroes and Cressy is a delightful love interest. A bit too much time is spent away from them for this to make it into my favourite Heyer's but it's still a charming piece of frothy entertainment.

When Christopher ‘Kit' Fancot returns on leave from the diplomatic service, he expects to find his loving family at home waiting for him. Instead, he is startled to find his alluring yet extravagant mother on the brink of financial and social ruin. Even more shocking, he is informed that his twin brother Evelyn has vanished without a trace. It's not long before Kit realises the true extent of his family's tangled affairs; it's left to him to set things right. But in the face of Evelyn's continued absence, Kit's ingenuity is stretched to the limit & he must pretend to be Evelyn & keep up the pretence with Evelyn’s betrothed Cressida Stavely
Another favourite book by the author, well written & of course flows well, the characters have lots of depth. I always find it amazing how well the books have stood the test of time. I loved Kit who dashed home as he felt things were not OK with Evelyn, he reluctantly agrees to ‘become’ Evelyn for just one night but then things spiral & the masquerade had to continue plus he starts to have feelings for Cressy. I also loved the down to earth Cressy who figured out the rouse as she too began to have feelings for Kit. The tangled web takes Kit’s ingenuity to unravel. A delightful read
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
