Elise, a detective recovering from Cancer, is taking a break from work. But when a disappearance happens in her village, she is drawn in to solve the case.
Charlie has a past, and despite renovating a large house, there's something not quite right happening. When he disappears one night after a festival, there are questions to be asked. Who has harmed Charlie?
there are a lot of character in the book which sometimes made it a little difficult to keep up with. The book also swaps between past and future a little bit as well.
The plot was well written and the ending good, just struggled slightly to keep up with everyone's movements.

A murder mystery told from various peoples perspective, both in present time and various times before the night in question...

Overall good read from beginning to end.

This book is, what I consider, an old fashioned thriller. It’s set in a seaside town and the characters are both the inhabitants and the weekenders. Everyone has a tale to tell, everyone has secrets and some are escaping from their past

There is intrigue, red herrings, deaths, murders, this book has everything

A thoroughly enjoyable read with thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for ARC in return for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the loan of this book.

I've been waiting for Fiona Barton to release another book since "The Suspect". It's been far too long a wait! I just love her books, they're so easy to read, without complicated plot lines and unnecessary lengthy descriptive text.
This thrilling story takes place in a small village where folks know each other, or at least they think they do..........
An old local man has gone missing and the town's folk have no idea where he is. At least they say they don't. But someone is hiding a secret past that ties in with the missing man, and they know exactly where he is. The mystery is that there is more than one of the town's folk hiding a secret.........so who knows the whereabouts of the missing man? Read it and find out.
I loved the plot twists and turns and hope Fiona doesn't take quite as long to write another excellent murder mystery. Brilliant!

When Charlie Perry goes missing and is then found murdered, the local villagers of Ebbing are shocked.
Who would kill such a lovely, charming elderly man?
As the story unravels, we find out the truth about Charlie as his past catches up with him.
A great who dunnit by Fiona Barton, with an interesting bunch of characters!
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish and could not get enough of.

This is a must read for anyone who enjoys a good thriller!!
Absolutely loved the characters, the plot, the tension -  impossible to put it down.
Certainly recommended!

I enjoyed this book. There were many characters and not all likeable. There were many reasons for the death of a main character and you could choose whichever one you felt was worst. The story warps up really quickly at the end. I’m not sure I was rooting for the detectives to win. Well written and a pact page turner.

This was an absolute page turner.

Loved it from start to finish.

The characters were great and so well built...felt like I knew them instantly.

Yes there were some far fetched moments and some easy coincidences but it was so enjoyable and well written, it worked so well.

There is very little that can be said without spoilers so will leave it at that it was a really enjoyable page turner that I could not put down.

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really love Fiona Barton's previous books and this one was just as great. I found it very face paced with solid believable characters and a satisfying conclusion. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for allowing me to read Local Gone Missing for an honest review.

There is tension in Ebbing when a promoter wants to stage a music concert, however the locals are against it. Two local teenagers end up in hospital after taking drugs at the concert. This coupled with a local man (Charlie) going missing is the basis of the novel.

DI Elise King is on sick leave after having breast cancer however she starts her own investigation with the help of her (nosy) neighbour. Add in Dee, who knows everything about everyone in Ebbing as she is the local cleaner and "accidentally" finds things when she is cleaning.

Elise is called back to work as the lead detective. She already knows a lot of information due to her own private investigation. Does she know enough? Can she solve the mystery? Is this linked to a burglary/murder from 20 years ago? The book reveals it all.

Even though this was a good read, it lacked something. I can't quite put my finger on what, but I can only give this 4 stars.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I have liked everything that this author has written and this was no exception, fast paced, great storyline and characters. Really enjoyed it.

Seemingly Sleepy Town…
Elsie King, ensconced in the seemingly sleepy town of Ebbing, realises that she is actually in a town seething with secrets and tensions. Cleaner, Dee Eastwood, sees it all, as she quietly watches the goings on. When a situation explodes these secrets and tensions soon come to light. A straightforward mystery with a cast of well drawn, keenly observed and credible characters. A wholly engaging read.

This was a simplistic book, that was fast paced and easy to keep up with! It revolved around a small town/ village called Epping and its inhabitants… an enjoyable, quick read

When a local man vanishes in Ebbing, Elise King investigates even though she is off work on sick leave from her job as a detective. Her cleaner, Dee Eastwood, knows everything about everyone as she sees what goes on in their homes. Meanwhile tensions run high in the town between the locals and the weekenders visiting the town. Things get worse when two teenagers end up in hospital. Can Elise find out what is going on and what has happened to local man Charlie? A thrilling book that keeps you guessing until the end. There is a variety of interesting and intriguing characters. Not a bad read. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.

I absolutely loved Fiona Barton's previous books and feel it's been a long wait for this, her fourth. Local Gone Missing is set in the small seaside town of Ebbing where Elise King is an ambitious detective currently on sick leave. When a local man, Charlie, goes missing and two teenagers end up in hospital after a music festival Elise starts to investigate Charlie's past. I liked the setting for this novel and the author's portrayal of the conflicts in a small town that is slowly being gentrified by those with second homes. Elise is a likeable character and I enjoyed her relationship with her neighbour Ronnie. There are gentle twists in the plot and I liked the gradual uncovering of Charlie's past. For me, this didn't work quite as well as the author's previous books as I felt that it lacked their tension and originality. It reminded me a little of some of Elly Griffith's books although not quite as compelling or satisfying. However it was an enjoyable read that I would recommend.
3.5 stars
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.

On the south coast, recuperating DI Elise King lives in a small town divided - divided between incoming weekenders and resentful locals.

But after a music festival, two teenagers end up in hospital and an older resident goes missing. And, inevitably, Elise is dragged back to work....

But there are eyes and ears in town. Elise's cleaner, seemingly invisible to most, misses nothing.....

Brilliant

I was looking forward to reading this as the author's previous books have all been favourites of mine.
A cleaner, a nosey policewoman neighbour and a couple with a disabled daughter, who live in a caravan make for an intriguing compelling mystery story. All have their secrets and hidden agenda resulting in a murder enquiry.
A good, satisfying read.

A book that keeps you reading even though you didn't realise how much you were enjoying it. I didn't find any sections where I felt it had become slow or boring. There are many characters but you are not left wondering who they are as can happen in some books. Love a book with twists and turns? Then this is for you.
