What a great debut. I was engrossed from the first page. It is a dark storyline with plenty of twists. I loved the dysfunctional family aspect.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I was very impressed. I really enjoyed it. I wasn’t expecting it to go the way it did, the twists are turns were great and I was kept guessing right up until the end.
I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more books by Liz Webb.

A brilliantly-written debut, with a unique plot, pacy writing and plenty of twists. The author manages to write a solid thriller based around the 'missing person' trope that is unique, and the ending came together seamlessly.

Wow what a thrilling read! The reader is kept intrigued and thrilling until the very end, and you just can't wait to find out whether the father was a killer or not. Really a good solid read.

When Hannah returns home to care for her father with dementia her father starts to make her suspect there was more to her mothers death when she was a child. But her movie star brother thinks she should leave alone - but Hannah just can’t.

Oh wow what an awesome read this was - fully creepy, flawed characters and a great plot. I couldn’t put this down and I didn’t even guess the ending. Lots of details came out through the book and I just wanted more and more. This was my first book by this author but I’d definitely read more. A great book to curl up with in this cold weather.

I wouldn't have known this was a debut, WOW. This is a great book, unique, punchy and kept me guessing right up until the end. It’s a thriller, but different to the usual missing person kind and left me happy with how it was all brought together. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was mightily relieved to have finished reading this. It wasn't a terrible novel at all, in fact, it's quite well-written, and some OK characters and a passing bit of intrigue. But Hannah, our protagonist, is a truly unpleasant person. She's quick to judge others, horribly immature, has a skewed moral compass, and is just - well, unpleasant. I hated the way she was so utterly rude to people she'd only just met.

And then we get to know about her mother murdered many years before, and boy, if I thought Hannah was awful, that was nothing.

I could not wait to be shot of Hannah and her awful mother, and when we come to the one-on-one climax, it's so awfully cringeworthy, that I found myself rooting for the 'bad guy'. And the climax involves the madperson, talking maniacally whilst unaware that they're slicing their leg with a knife. Hang on, have we not seen this before? Oh yes, we have: Fatal Attraction.

This is not a novel that I will remember.

Great book with good characters, few twists that I didn’t see coming and the ending was perfect…will look for more from the author as I really enjoyed this one!

I only made it a third of the way through The Daughter before the torture became too much. Every part of it was bad, but the worst offender was the protagonist's constant idiotic, immature behaviour that made me want her to die in a fire.

Loved this book. I was pleasantly suprised at how much. Not too many characters to keep an eye on. Such a great book for a debut. Well done.

This was a slow burner and for quite some time I wondered why it came under thrillers. I did stick with it and I'm glad I did. It really intrigued me to see where it was going, and I really want sure who the perpetrator was until it was revealed.

There were a few discrepancies in the story (people born in the 40's and 50's loving Blur and The Spice Girls etc) but all in all it was a good read

The information provided on this book prepares the reader for Hannah's desire to find out who murdered her mother years ago. It includes the hint that Hannah begins to take on aspects of her mother's character but as the book progressed her behaviour seemed increasingly bizarre and unbelievable, especially when the book reaches it's half way point and we find out some of Hannah's past. There are some major flaws such as her father being discharged home without a home assessment by an occupational therapist, no arrangements made for any adaptations required and no nursing carer support, Power of Attorney cannot be organised and legalised so quickly and no coroner would sign off on a home death without adequate investigation including a post mortem.
I persevered to the end of this book but didn't enjoy it.

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading Liz Webb’s The Daughter. Dark, creepy, disturbing and spiked with acerbic humour that serves to increase the menace and foreboding that permeate the entire book, The Daughter is a layered, terrifying and cleverly written thriller that was unpredictable, jaw-dropping and full of twists and turns the reader simply won’t see coming.

After reading lots of duds recently, I was so happy to pick up The Daughter by Liz Webb.
What a debut!

As mentioned, I could not put the book down and finished it within a day, and what a ride it was!
I loved the many-dimensional characters, the character development and the plot kept me engaged. It was a wild, fun ride with a dash of suspending belief in regards to the crazy weird actions of the daughter to move the story along. :) Still, loads of fun!

I did have a good guess about some of the future twists and developments in the book, but that did not spoil the enjoyment.

Overall, a solid 4 stars for this one from me.

The premise of the book immediately appealed to me and after reading just a few pages, I knew I’d be grabbing every spare minute to see how it ended.

Usually, I like to savour books but occasionally, a thriller like this one comes along, grabs you by the throat and compels you to devour it in a short space of time!

Unbelievably, this is a debut and I was immersed in the character of Hannah and her quest to seek the truth under difficult circumstances. As the story unfolds, we learn more about her late mother and the build-up to her gruesome murder.

The Daughter is a murder mystery and domestic thriller and Liz does a brilliant job of writing cliff-hanger chapters, an intriguing cast of characters, each with their own secrets and demons, and a plot that will keep you hooked.

I can’t wait to read more of Liz’s work and will be recommending this book to everyone!

A family drama that is a very slow burner with lots of twists.
Hannah is the main character who moves back home to look after her father who is suffering with dementia.
Her mother was found stabbed when Hannah was 14 and no one was found guilty so Hannah decides to investigates but finds it difficult with her mental health problems, addictions and her estranged famous brother which has different memories from Hannah, in fact I found her very creepy at times and you never know where the story is going even thinks it may be her dad that is guilty.

Goodness, so much dysfunction! Hannah Davidson, now 37, has returned to her family home to look after her dad who has dementia. She has a brother, Reece who is a TV star, but her mum died when she was young. Her dad often mentions things, his mind drifting in and out of lucidity, that concern Hannah. There are unanswered questions for Hannah surrounding her mum's death and Hannah is determined to get to the root of them.

This is a tense read and I really enjoyed Liz Webb's writing style and her portrayal of Hannah. Is Hannah doubting reality or imagining things, or is she correct in her suspicions? The Daughter owns a fantastic plot and it's a novel that all lovers of domestic psychological mystery/ thrillers need to read. Pretty good stuff, methinks!

I thoroughly enjoyed this psychological thriller. I will be looking forward to see what the Author brings us next as I feel that she has quite a career in writing ahead of her if this book is anything to go on.

When Hannah's Dad is beginning to suffer from dementia she is keen to try and find out what happened to her Mum before his memory has completely disappeared. Sadly her Mum had died years ago, at the time there was some suspicions around her death. It wasn't sure if it was an act of suicide or for some time there were suspicions that it may have been murder. Hannah's Dad had the finger of suspicion pointed at him, nothing was proven one way or another, but Hannah is keen to find out what happened. Sometimes though it's better to let sleeping dogs lie, as unearthing what has been in the past can often end up having repercussions that you didn't want to happen.

This book will take you on many twists and turns as the story branches out in one direction then another. Which branch you want to find yourself on, is the one that leads to everything being settled and all loose ends being tied up. I know that I did have my suspicions as to what was happening and some of them were proven right, but others were barking up the wrong tree. To find out what happened all those years ago, you need to grab a copy of this debut novel and immerse yourself in the lives of the characters.
