This is a book which has captured my interest from the beginning. I love how this is written. It is filled with a mix of characters and has been a book I have been unable to predict.

This twisty mystery was a good read. The author writes about how easy it is to be taken by con men/women. What the reader does not expect is what happens when the people swindled decide to embark on a journey of revenge.

This book drew me in quickly, despite being able to see the writing on the wall and know what was coming. But I kept waiting for the story to evolve, and it just didn’t. There was no big twists and the ending was a bit of a let down. It felt like the most suspenseful parts were just rushed over and then it dragged on about mundane happenings. I think the author did a great job of showing you how people fall into scams, the desperation to have a “better” life can make people make crazy decisions.

This was a slightly predictable but fast paced thriller. Even though it was pretty clear where the story was going, I still enjoyed the plot. Now I feel like I will be overly suspicious of everyone I meet on vacation!

A new author for me. This boom has an intriguing premise and was an easy, enjoyable read.

Somewhat dramatic and dark in places, many readers will enjoy this book.

It really wasn’t what I was expecting - not really a psychological thriller but it was and ok read, I did struggle a bit and the ending wasn’t the best, didn’t really grip me. I was expecting something better when I read the synopsis of the book.

Been a fan of Daniel ever since I read passenger a few years back. Adore his work! One of the things I loved most about this book is that it was different to any other thriller I’ve ever read it’s not the typical abduction, murder etc but it’s still fast paced with plenty going on to keep the reader interested. I’d probably say this is one of my favourite books I’ve read so far this year!

Unfortunately, I stopped reading around 60% in, it wasn't engaging enough and didn't hold my attention. It is marketed as a thriller although it read more like general fiction to me.

Not what I was expecting, it is not a psychological thriller. I think this should be of interest to those who like more domestic based drama.

Still 3 stars

Great book full of twists and turns. It's so hard to write a wonderful thriller book that keeps you guessing while also not being run of the mill and forgettable. Thankfully, this book was able to do just that!

Definitely not a psych thriller, but a bingable read nonetheless. 3 stars

I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would given the amazing cover. I think it was categorized wrong. It's certainly not a psych thriller.

I did enjoy the author's writing since it was very easy to read and I got through the book very very fast.

Would I recommend this book? I honestly wouldn't unless you like really light mystery books. I prefer my thrillers darker. But I am interested in reading more from this author. The book was a very fast read.

The premise for this book was really clever. I read it over a few evenings, I was a little disappointed in the ending, but it is still a solid four stars.

Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator Books for this advanced copy of The New Friends in exchange for an honest review. Author Daniel Hurst has a new thriller in The New Friends that is engaging and keeps you on your toes till the very end. Married couple Becky and Jamie live a simple life in England and decide to take a small vacation to get away from the real world for a bit. Jamie works in a warehouse and Becky in education. They make enough to get by but not enough to start trying for a baby. On holiday they meet Mel and Phill. They cannot believe that the vacationing couple are retired so young. Jamie wants to have a future where he doesn't have to worry about money problems. But when they strike up a friendship with Phil and Mel, they greatly regret it.

A fun read that had me rooting for the main characters. Great entertainment and worth the read - it kept me turning the pages.

Very well written book. Even though there wasn't much of any suspense or twisted plotlines, the writing was impactful. The storyline was predictable and so was the happy ending. The way the con was explained made me feel like shouting to Beckie and Jamie to stay away from Phil and Mel. But Mel's change of heart could have been justified better. I was hoping for a twist when I saw Zara spying on the Gemma couple but was disappointed when it didn't happen.

One thing you should never do in this life is to compare yourself to someone else cause more then likely to begin with you are the better off of the two ….. this book follows the life of a couple who bump into another couple on holidays and from then on they just want more and more of what the other couple have and that’s when the fun begins….. a great read I have to say ..

You meet new friends on vacation and they have it all - money and the best life and you wonder how do they have all that at the same age as you? And it’s so easy really! Just a little investment! So you invest and surprise surprise. It’s a con. But. The end will definitely have you reeling a little. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
