A fantastic book with a really fun plot and great characters. I had a lot of fun with this one and couldn't put it down. The romance within was also very sweet.

Jane and Levi are caught in a gondola, while a snowstorm is taking place. while the two are in extreme danger it's time to say goodbye to family. While Jane has no family to say goodbye to, Levi tells his mum the thing that will make her happy, that he has a girlfriend and her name is Jane.

Thankfully the two survive their ordeal but this soon leads to fake dating, facing your past and trying not to fall in love while doing it.

Shalvis is an absolute go-to author for me. The narratives always run a full equilibrium with the outcome to make anyone's heart melt and shed a few tears along the way, while adoring every character a cheeky side romance to run alongside out main characters.

If you love a romance this author will never disappoint and is one I highly recommend.

The book was very well written and flowed well. The plot was great. Everything I thought it would be from the description

I loved this lighthearted read!

It had a wonderful set of characters and I loved Levi and Jane so I was definitely rooting for them both! I also loved Levi's niece, Peyton. She was quite the character.

The author had me gripped from the start what with the extremely tense and life threatening start to the book (Stuck in a Gondola up in the clouds during a snowstorm anyone?!)!

I thought the book was well written although I'm not sure about including Charlotte's (Jane's friend) and Mateo's (friend of Jane and Levi) love story in the same book. I think it would've been better to have given them their own book.

Still, it doesn't take away from the rating, as I still enjoyed the book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Headline Publishers for an ARC copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

During a snowstorm, Levi and Jane are trapped in a ski gondola and when the one in front of them crashes to the ground they think that they are going to die. Levi calls his parents but he can't bring himself to say goodbye so he tells them that he and Jane are dating. When they survive the incident Levi's family wants to meet Jane so they have to pretend to be dating.

I enjoyed the start of this book when Levi and Jane are trapped together. However, I did find that in places this story moved a little too slowly for me. I liked the side characters in this book and was enjoying seeing the romance between Charlotte and Mateo develop and I would like to see more of these characters. Whilst I did like the characters I didn't feel 100% invested in their romance.

Overall this was a good read and a solid start to a new series. I am looking forward to checking out the future books in this series.

I absolutely adore Jill Shalvis books so this was one I was instantly excited to read. I have been pulled into this one and completely unable and unwilling to put this one.

This is one that makes you think about how your past affects your future. Shalvis has taken how hard it is to love after being hurt and created a gorgeous gem.

I loved the characters in this one, they are as gorgeous as always and made this a great read. I have been transported whilst reading this one- a reason I love this author, she allows me to escape reality.

This has been a perfect read and definitely a favourite from Shalvis. I cannot say anything negative about this one, it has been a book I’ve devoured.

Definitely a book for the TBR.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was an adorable read which had me both laughing out loud and tearing up within a few chapters of each other. It was my first Jill Shalvis novel and she writes characters beautifully! They all felt so incredibly real but still had a little bit of that cheesiness that you only find in romance novels, which I absolutely loved.

In this story, you follow Jane and Levi, who both get stuck on a gondola in the middle of a snow storm and have a near death experience. During what Levi thought would be his last conversation with his mother, he tells her that he has a girlfriend named… Jane. Once Levi and Jane are rescued, they start fake dating to keep up appearances with Levi’s mother, but it’s all just “pretend”… Right?

I loved the romance, but more than anything, I loved the friendship between Jane and her roommate/best friend, Charlotte. It had me wishing that I had a friend like Charlotte, we get her POV from around 25% into the book and her chapters were my favourite, she was so caring, and her and Mateo were the cutest! I would happily read a novella about their relationship.

All in all I loved this book, so much pining and friction, yet also had the cutest moments ever, and would recommend it to any romance lovers out there! 💙

Enjoyable read - a few author for me but I would definitely read another of her books.

Nice winter setting and a reminder that your past doesn't have to define you.

A heart-warming story of love and belonging, Jill Shalvis begins a new series - Sunrise Cove - set near beautiful Lake Tahoe, with an uplifting story of found family and love.

A sweet, yet powerful read with Charlotte and Jane each having so much on their plate and having to deal with their own demons. A beautiful story focusing on friendship and love, and the family you make for yourself rather than the one you were born into.

A really good fake romance start to this story which soon develops into true romance. It is very well written. Look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Loved Levi from the very start, took a bit longer for me to take to Jane. When people hold on to their past as much as she did it takes me a while to warm to the character. Though when i eventually did i loved these two, also enjoyed the secondary romance

I am not sure there are enough words to express how much I enjoyed this book.

I am a fan of Jill Shalvis normally and the new Sunrise Cove books look like they might be an addition to my must read list.

Whilst home visit from the city Levi heads up into the mountain where he spent a lot of his youth, but on reaching the top he realises that a storm has rushed in and heads back down in the cable car, the last cable car of the evening as everything is being shutdown before the storm, the other passenger in that final cable car is Jane a nurse who spends her winters working at ski resorts before heading out and administering healthcare in the far reaches of the world.

Half way down the mountain they notice the empty cable car crash to the ground and realise its only a matter of time until they meet the same fate, Levi decides to phone home to say goodbye to his family but he just cant do it and instead tells him mum all about his lovely (pretend) girlfriend Jane.

Slight spoiler here but the cable car doesnt crash and Levi and Jane come out relatively unscathed. However now his mum wants to meet the wonderful Jane,

This is a lovely book about people who have been lost and find their way home.

I devoured this book in 24 hours so I definitely cant recommend this book highly enough.

I cant wait to get back to Sunrise Cove.

This is my first book by Jill Shalvis but certainly won't be my last, I loved it
Levi and Jane end up trapped in a ski gondola together during a freak snowstorm, when the gondola in front of them falls from the wires, the one they are in stops and is being flung from side to side in the wind they both think they are going to die. Levi calls his mum to say goodbye but can't bring himself to do it so when his mum hears Jane in the background and wants to know who she is Levi fibs and says it's his girlfriend.
Jane is a nurse who can't settle and hasn't got any family to speak of, Levi's family are a close knit inquisitive one who want to meet Jane
As they get to know each other Jane agrees to pretend to be his girlfriend and meets his family
Some fabulous characters in Levi, Jane, Charlotte and Matteo. Hope their stories will go further

The family You Make opens straight into the action with a ski lift, in a storm, in danger of plunging several thousand feet. Certain death, surely, for anyone on board. It’s not a spoiler to confirm what the synopsis explains, nobody dies. However, we soon learn that Jane, and her friend Charlotte, have not really been living.
Jane and Levi enter into an agreement to put on a pretence that they are a couple, for the sake of Levi’s family. He’s not been in a steady relationship for years and his family want to see him happy. Meanwhile, Jane has been living a nomadic life, jumping from contract to contract, avoiding putting down any roots. She rents a room in her friend’s house, who is equally averse to relationships and has her own personal baggage which she refuses to address.
This wonderful story drew me in from the very first page and I literally couldn’t put it down. The pull of one more chapter kept me reading into the early hours of the next morning. As happens quite often, I found myself casting a screen version of this gorgeous story and found inspiration amongst the cast of Grey’s Anatomy. Ok, so Levi isn’t a doctor, but I shall lean towards poetic licence.
As the story unfolds, we get a clear view of the pain that both Jane and Charlotte are carrying, and it’s difficult not to empathise with their stories. Being let down by family is a very bitter pill to swallow and I don’t believe that even a large spoonful of sugar would make it easier to digest.
I always like to pick out a favourite character and this is no exception, I just loved Mateo. He showed the patience of a saint, with the passion of a devil! He’s not perfect, but he’s pretty close. I will keep quiet as to which Grey’s character he reminded me of.
This could easily have become a syrupy sweet tale, filled with happy endings and hearts and flowers in half the time, but Jill Shalvis is skilled at keeping the reader’s attention. The underlying stories regarding embezzlement and family estrangement added the perfect layer to keep me interested. Don’t get me wrong, I love a happy ending, but want to know that it is well earned and not reached too easily.
I enjoyed escaping to the snowy slopes of Lake Tahoe, I highly recommend you visit soon.

I want to first say a huge thank you to Headline for allowing me to read Jill Shalvis' work. Prior to them sending me an ARC I had never heard of this author and now I am having ALL the fun collecting her older works.

The Family You Make is a wonderful winter read, made even better reading it on a cosy friday morning at 2 degrees. Both Levi and Jane are wrestling with old traumas but when one very terrifying event bonds them together they can't seem to part again. A cute read of rediscovering yourself and family. I was surprised to find my heart was more inclined to pull for Charlotte and Mateo than Levi and Jane but I liked watching both couples break boundaries to get to one another. I will say that the continuous breathe holding got a little much at points but all in all I enjoyed.
