A bit of a slow burner this but very enjoyable.
Georgina, her husband Bren and their son Cody live in Dublin but all is not happy.
Georgina discovered that Bren had kissed another woman and is struggling to get over it. Her mother dies suddenly which sends Georgina into a state of depression.
Trying to cope with all of this, her job and studying overwhelms her and she is just managing to struggle through then Cody starts to talk about his new granny and her world gets even darker.
An excellent psychological family based drama where you don’t know what is going to happen next.
Highly recommended. 4.5 Stars ⭐️

A few months after the death of his grandmother seven year old Cody starts to talk about his new Granny. His mother Georgina wonders if this is an imaginary friend or something more sinister.
Georgina is having problems in her marriage and believes her husband is lying to her about an affair.
I found this story unbelievable in parts and I didn’t care for any of the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

What if your child's imaginary friend was real?

All children have imaginary friends. It's perfectly normal.

But when Georgina's young son Cody tells her about his 'New Granny', a mysterious friend from the park, the words send shivers down her spine. Georgina's beloved mother died only months ago.

The story is so unpredictable and tense full of suspense and mystery, I loved it.
I found myself second guessing all the way through..

This was amazing! Chilling and tense. Had me gripped from the start. Children do have imaginary friends don’t they.? Especially if they are dealing with grief, but when do you start to question that? When do you start to question your self? I really could not put this down, the best book I have read in ages.

Super creepy and well written. Cody has an imaginary friend.. but what if she is real? Georgina starts to believe that Cody’s imaginary friend is not imaginary and feels threatened, can she confirm this and make her husband believe her? I found that this book didn’t give very many twists in the plot but I found the ending satisfying.

I read this book in one sitting.. the chapters was lovely and short and this made the book flow fast.
I was on the edge of my seat the whole time wondering who New Granny was. There was lots to keep you guessing.

A great read that makes you think about who could be watching you in real life! Not my usual genre but will definitely be looking for more from this author. Well done.

When Georgina's young son Cody tells her about his 'New Granny', a mysterious friend from the park, the words send shivers down her spine. Georgina's beloved mother died only months ago.
Her husband Bren is certain the woman is an invention, Cody's way of grieving for his grandmother, but there's something in the way Cody talks about his new friend that feels so real.

Is someone out there, watching Georgina's family from the shadows?

Is Cody's imaginary friend not so imaginary after all?

Georgina is on the edge and suspects everyone. Even her husband. Does he gaslight her, convince her she was losing her mind, try to take her son away? And what about her neighbours, they all act weird...

Psychological suspense with horror influences. There is a wronged figure from the past, a threat that only the child can see.
Eerie and twisty, but for my taste a little bit unbelievable.

If you're looking for a bit of escapism for a few hours, this might be the one for you.

This will definitely have you gripped. I particularly enjoyed this book, sometimes with books like this the plot seems to thin out in the middle but this held my attention great read.

What a ride that was!! I loved the concept of the book and was really eager to get stuck in. It didn't get under my skin as much as I was hoping and It didn't leave me feeling like I could picture myself in the scenario but in saying that, it was still a really enjoyable read. There were a few twists and turns and the story definitely gave you that eerie feeling as you went through. This book will definitely get you through a few of these cold dark days

Fast paced, gripping read. Took me down a few different journeys and just when I thought I’d got it, bam, new direction. Really enjoyed this book and will be keeping an eye out for more books by Rachel Ryan. Four stars. Recommend.

When Georgina's son Cody tells her about his "New Granny", she assumes he has an imaginary friend, especially since his granny recently died. But is it really an imaginary friend, or could someone be watching their family? A thrilling story that keeps you guessing. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.

Here's my review from two years ago....

I felt Georgina was a bit on edge from the start, and so wasnt entirely sure if I trusted her.
I thought maybe this was going to be another unreliable female narrator book, especially as there were references to things yet to be explained.
She grew on me slightly as the book went on.
To be honest,I enjoyed the book, but I also found it pretty unbelievable.
If you're looking for a bit of escapism for a few hours, this might be the one for you.
