I received a copy of this book from Netgallwy to review and all opinions are my own.
This book was fantastic! It is truly a book to fall in love with, the characters are well crafted and the writing is so good. I enjoyed the theme of romance book publishing running alongside the story itself with the reflections and comparison between both stories being told. I recommend this book to any romance lover.
NB there were some technical issues with the Kindle version of the arc as there was sections of text copied repeatedly in the beginning and end of the book, making it difficult to read.

I picked this one up expecting a short sweet romance but ended up enjoying it so much more.

I really loved Lanie’s character, she felt really relatable and I was really routing for her all the way through.

I also loved the sound of all the fictional books that the author character had written in the book and would absolutely read those too!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

By any other name is a book about Lanie, who is living her dream in New York. Working at a publishing house as an editor and having a fiancé who fits all her criteria, she couldn't be happier, or could she?
When she gets offered a promotion and gets the opportunity to work with her favorite author Noa Callaway, everything is put in perspective and Lanie has to ask herself if she is truly happy with her life as it is.

This was a fun and quick read filled with a sweet romance story. I flew through this book, which is always a good sign. I liked the romance, though I didn't love it. I wish we could have got a little more build-up. What I  loved was that we followed an editor. A Book about books is always a great concept for a story, and I'm always interested to learn more about the publishing industry. This book is perfect for anyone looking for a short story with a cute romance in its forefront.

This is the first adult novel by Lauren Kate I've read so I wasn't sure what to expect but I ended up really enjoying it. It was light and warm and like a hug in book form. It also pays homage to romance readers which I loved.

I had two problems with this book. As the book is written in Lanie's first person pov, I didn't feel as if I knew the hero very well by the end of the novel. Secondly, the ending felt a bit rushed. However, overall it was a fun novel. I don't say this about many books but this book is calling out for a film adaption.

This was such a fun and quick “get you out of a reading slump” book.

The concept and plot of the book was super unique and really fun.

I do wish I saw more of the romantic side of the relationship between the main couple as it only came together right at the end but still a cute rom-con and a great romance to cosy up to.

Lanie Bloom is a successful romance editor for Peony Press, the publishing company of renowned author Noa Callaway. Her debut novel gave Lanie the list of ninety-nine things that she looks for in her perfect man, which has led to her engagement to the perfect man, Ryan.

So when she is given to opportunity to work with Noa and a dream promotion, the simple task of curing Noa's writer's block seems simple. However, no one has ever met or spoken to the mysterious author and the truth as to why makes Lanie's task seem near-impossible.

It's a bold move to fill a book with references to fictional best-seller novels that the reader will never get read; you have to be sure this book is the one worth writing. I'd say Kate manages this. Throughout, I was interested in the stories mentioned as they fill out the world that is Noa Callaway but I was perfectly happy to be reading this one.

The humour is frequent and well-balanced to the situations surrounding Lanie. As is compulsory, there are the supportive- even in bad decisions- friends in the form of Meg and Rufus. As is pleasing to see, there's the always entertaining character who says the wrong things at the right times, as seen in her grandmother, BD. This dynamic is fun and carries you through the story with ease.

I found this to be very fast-paced. It left the initial Ninety-Nine Things idea behind at times and set up many paths for the plot to take (namely the Fifty Things list) but few are explored. What is included is great but it could have delved further into these avenues to better flesh out to enemies-to-lovers trope as it came across more as begrudging main characters who fix their differences then are catapulted into an ending. It's such a quick ending that I'd say this is one of the few romances that needed an epilogue as it didn't feel finished, it just stopped.

Also, (unsurprisingly) this book features many American-specific references- stores, products, notable figures- which are unknown to me as a British reader.

A short and sweet read. Could definitely see this being a movie. Noah is very soon worthy and Lanie's relationship with BD was so heartwarming. The fact that Noah had a rabbit called Havier Bardum made me laugh so much. Overall, a good but not particularly rememberable read.

Lanie has a dream job and a fiancé who apparently adores her. I am saying apparently because as much as (obviously) he was later portrayed as the bad guy (not much of a spoiler, it is a romance book and that much is pretty clear once you reach for it), I kinda thought it was very forced. They had plans and he had aspirations and yes, he did not take Lanie's job seriously but she did constantly moan about it.
Okay, in general: I did not like Lanie. He behaviour was childish and foolish.
I did not buy most of the plot "twists" and explanations.
Just not a fan, I guess.

I read this in a weekend. It was a quick, feel-good and fun read, but what really did it for me was the fact that it is a book about writing a book and we all know by now that's my Achilles' heel. I absolutely loved the premise for this.

29 year-old Lanie lives in Manhattan and works at a publishing house as senior editor. She actually works under Alix, the editorial director in charge of Noa Callaway's books. That is, Lanie's favorite author ever, and the favorite author of 40 million other women who devour Noa's swoon-worthy romances the moment they hit the shelves.

But Noa, who has never missed a deadline, is now 4 months past the deadline for her next novel. And to top things off, Alix isn't coming back from her maternity leave. That leaves Lanie with a temporary promotion as the youngest editorial director, that she may keep only if she manages to get that manuscript out of Noa Callaway.

With her job on the line and a lot to prove, Lanie sets out to get Noa Callaway out of her writer's block. Then Laine finds out that Noa is actually Noah and not at all the lady she pictured her as, but a man. A man with whom she's been email friends for 7 years thinking he was someone else. A man that she might be a little attracted to, once the sense of betrayal fades out.

I love how this played out and looooved Two Thousand Picnics in Central Park. I also really appreciated how there was no cheating and one relationship ended way before the next one began. Oh, and don't go into this expecting smut, this is the kind of romance that ends when the two characters finally kiss.

If you're like me and love books about books, then this one's for you. It was a very easy and addictive read, I flew through it in a couple sittings, although I will say that the romance aspect was cute and fluffy but just okay, not fireworks-worthy. I think that's what would've made it a 5 star for me, if the romance would've been a little angstier.

A quick and easy read. It didn’t feel majorly like a romance novel to me, although it was sprinkled in the odd place. It was a great premise, but the execution just fell a little flat for me.

Having been granted early access to this via NetGalley, I was rather cross to find what seemed like page after page of the same three paragraphs when I started the book. I feared this would have to be a DNF but, thankfully, this did not continue and I got to read the book. And I’m so glad I did.
Lanie has, since she first got her job, loved her work in the publishing company that is responsible for the best-selling novelist Noa Calloway. Since the first Calloway book she read, Lanie has loved the way this author writes about love. Like many Calloway fans, Lanie finds solace in these novels…but soon she finds her life inextricably linked to this reclusive writer, and things are not quite what she expected.
When Noa’s editor decides not to return from maternity leave, Lanie is promoted to her role. The only condition being that she has to get the finished manuscript for the latest Calloway novel in her hands by the planned deadline…no mean feat when Calloway seems to be suffering writer’s block.
The story itself is fairly obvious. Lanie learns Noa Calloway is actually a man, and over the course of their working together they fall in love. Along the way they learn about each other, and we get the onset of a charming love story that’s going to be the next Calloway book.
By the end, things were shaping up to go exactly as we’d hoped and this was great fun.

Loved this book, loved the 'mistaken' (though is it mistaken when it's done intentionally?!) Identity aspect of this tale but also just enjoyed the sheer romance of it all. A friendship built up over many years turns into love.

I think there may be some criticism of how easily the 'deception' is accepted and yes, that is an issue but I found it the story so delightful that I suspended disbelief with this small aspect!

I really, really did not want this to end.

This book made me smile, cry, and fantasise about the utterly adorable love interest. The characters (main and secondary) are charming, sufficiently fleshed out and, unlike in so many romances, not annoying. The writing style is clear and straightforward, the plot is well paced and achieves just the right balance between tropes and originality.

I loved both the main love story and the story-within-the-story. At around 300 pages, the book is long enough to engage and care about the characters, but not nearly as long as I wanted it to be. It would have been good if some more of their NY experience days had been included, but on the other hand it was refreshing that there was no unnecessary padding or dragging of the plot.

Thank you to Little, Brown Book Group UK, Piatkus and NetGalley for the ARC. The above are my own, unbiased comments.

Sweet, romantic, and packed full of humour, By Any Other Name is the perfect laugh-out-loud romance novel.

The main character Lanie is a successful editor looking to take the next step with her career. The key? Bestselling romance author Noa Calloway. Noa is a secretive, private individual - in all the years of editing Noa's books, Lanie has never actually met Noa face-to-face. So, when the opportunity arises to do just that, Lanie is understandably excited and nervous in equal measure.

After discovering a shocking secret and learning that Noa's latest book is struck down by a bad case of writer's block, all of Lanie's carefully constructed plans for the future start to unravel around her. But when your life is changing, perhaps it's an opportunity to be dynamic and build a better future instead?

Lanie is a brilliant character - she's quirky yet relatable, with just enough zest to make her an intriguing, interesting personality. Despite her challenges she always has a plan and is strongly guided by her moral principles, and of course, a team of supportive friends and colleagues.

This was a quick read but an unputdownable one; as soon as I started reading, I was instantly engrossed in Lanie's story. Her life both in and out of work was fascinating to read about, and I was sorry to get to the end of the book so quickly! But does Lanie get her happily ever after? You'll have to read the book to find out!

I read Lauren Kate's Fallen series back in my last couple of years of middle school and early high school and I remember really loving it. When I received the arc of By Any Other Name, I was super intrigued by the premise. It sounded like exactly the type of book that I would love. And I did. I really enjoyed reading this. It actually turned out to be so much more fun than I thought it would be? I was laughing so much at some of the dialogue and some of the scenes. I think this might be my favourite Lauren Kate book so far. The writing is amazing and I love how the romance was built up. You could see the subtle signs of it scattered throughout the first parts of the story, and then you could see clear scenes of Lanie and Noah having feelings for each other. The build-up made this book for me. I love their relationship and they had such a fun dynamic around each other.

Finishing this book, I feel so light and warm and happy. I think I'm definitely convinced to buy a physical copy when it releases.

I mainly picked this up for the book cover but god DANG this was such a fun ride! It was great curling up in my bed while doing online school and just getting sucked into the characters’ world and their relationships

I really enjoyed this book. I love books about books and thought this did it really well. Realistic enough but with the escapism we crave!

Loved this book - not sure how to describe the book without talking spoilers but it is so good.

Also, the description of the book Noa wrote (near the end of this book) please can someone write it? It sounds so good and I love the idea of how it is written.

This book follows a lot of romance tropes but at the same time it feels so unique and sweet, I would recommend it!

I ended up really enjoying this book and I'm so glad I read it! The story was super cute, the romance was very sweet and BD was iconic! I don't have very many issues with this book but I really wish there was an extra chapter or epilogue at the end, because the last page resolved the storyline and it was really satisfying, but then I turned the page expecting a final chapter where I would get to experience the MC's happy, but I just didn't get that. I also wish Lanie and Ryan had broken up a little sooner, something just didn't feel right about her hiding the engagement photo from Noah and then breaking up with Ryan soon after meeting Noah (maybe a little opportunistic?). But overall I really enjoyed this super fun romcom, and I would definitely recommend to a friend!
