A joyous, uplifting story with a couple of twists. Although the central characters are three nuns the book is not a religious one but one about the power of hope. It’s a delightful, gentle read and thoroughly recommended.

"Small Miracles" is a lovely, gentle story about the last 3 nuns remaining in a small convent, where the building is decaying around them. This is a tale of community, friendships and love. The nuns seem to have lost their direction in life as the school which they used to run has been taken away from them (merged with another school). Also, the youngest of them is in her late fifties and no one new has joined the order for many years. The story sees the nuns fighting for survival and a new purpose which they find surprisingly on an unusual adventure.

Small Miracles was such a wonderful, heartwarming book. I really enjoyed it and found it to be genuinely funny. The characters were great and a blast to follow along — I especially loved Sister Margaret. If you need anything to cheer you up when you're feeling down, then this book is definitely the one for you.

This book starts with three nuns, they are living in a falling down and dwindling parish there are only three of them left. They end up with small minor miracles until they end up in a pilgrimage to Italy.
Well written and the adventures and the ups and downs of their lives was brilliant. Throughly enjoyable.

I can absolutely see why this book is published under Random House’s Vintage label, because it is just that. Quaint, charming and a little old-fashioned, not just because it is set in 1995; it transports the readers back to simpler times, before the world was glued to its mobile phone.

Set in an English catholic convent down on its luck, the book follows the remaining three nuns, the local priest and a small cast of parishioners and friends, as after a modest lottery win, a series of other ‘small miracles’ begin to occur.

Although I quite enjoyed the journey, there was something missing from the book for me. I wanted it to be either funnier, or tug at my heart-strings more, and I had problems relating to the three main characters. However if you yearn for fiction akin to the Miss Read books, this may very well be exactly to your taste. It was in no way a ‘bad’ book (whatever that is), just not for me.

I am sorry I wanted to love this book but despite two attempts I just could not get into it. Such a shame because I liked the synopsis. Thank you for allowing me to read an advance copy.

An absolutely gorgeous and heartwarming read full of wonderful, flawed characters. I adored this book so much, who would have thought a little story about three nuns could bring so much joy? Sister Margaret, full of self doubt and stress, Sister Bridget, who is witty, adventurous and has a love of cooking and Sister Cecelia, the 90 year old, lottery playing but serious sister! They wonderful supporting cast of hoteliers, shop keepers, clergy, honeymooners, university professors and travel agents (and their cats!) complete this fun and uplifting book which leaves you feeling that life is actually full of small miracles! Perfect.

This book is a complete tonic to the world today. Utterly delightful. Well rounded characters, a warmth which pours from every page, Female friendship, joy, some sadness but utterly uplifting - I will be prescribing it to everyone
I know.

This is a charming,feel good story set in the early 90s, and centres around the last three nuns in the order of St Philomena who face having to leave their convent when it faces financial difficulties.
Things change when one of them buys a lottery ticket and this is the start of a series of small miracles which change the nuns’ circumstances ,as well as some of the people with whom they’re involved .
It’s an easy read ,and perfect for times when you might want to read something uplifting and pleasant.

What a lovely read - just what I needed.
I love the fact that the personalities in this book are so endearing and that the emotions and trials that people face are so representative of all humankind. I love the way that the 3 nuns relate to one another and that it shows we can all find and show irritation with those around us! It deals with change and struggle and finding yourself living a life that was not entirely part of the plan.
This book is humorous but it also closely observed. It is warm, poignant and utterly charming!

Very sweet, this gentle novel was not at all what I expected or usually choose, but was actually a lovely read. The timelessness of the tale and the little stories of the different community characters combined to make it a charming tale, light-hearted even when touching on serious topics.

What a wonderful, warm, hug of a book! It was a pleasure to read! A book about love, loss, finding your place, a pregnant cat and hidden secrets!

When the Sisters Of St Philomena's have an unexpected lottery win, this starts off an unexpected voyage of discovery in many ways!

I shall be looking forward to reading more by this author.

Awww what a lovely, gentle book. One for a rainy afternoon in front of the fire. The tale of three nuns trying to stay afloat in a dilapidated convent, the details of the story gave real insight into the lives of nuns which I found fascinating despite not being religious at all. Both the leading and supporting characters were interesting and quirky, I loved seeing the influence the nuns had on their community and the other people they interacted with. Definitely worth a read.

An easy, feel good read which was full of happy endings - something we all need in these difficult times. I didn’t find it particularly humorous but it was a pleasant novel.

Gentle, bittersweet tale of three nuns trying to find a future for themselves after loss in a changing world.

Having immediately come out of a heart-breaking, harrowing read, and with all the horrors in the world just now, Small Miracles was just what I needed: escapism in a gentle story, filled with characters I love, whom we see make progress in their lives/relationships (I refuse to use the “J” word!), with a trip to Italy thrown in – what’s not to love?

At a different time I would probably give it 4 stars, but as it was perfect as an antidote to anxiety, I’m going to whole hog with 5!

This is a sweet story with three unusual main characters in the delightfully quirky nuns. I know several people who will adore it and I read the book with them in mind. For me there was slightly too much detail about characters who didn’t get developed much further and while gently amusing, I felt it could have done with a touch more acid.

This is a delightful, uplifting read. Three Nuns fear losing their home as their numbers have dwindled but the discovery of a photograp leads to a journey of discovery for them all.
As they overcome their difficulties they learn to face life together. Told with warmth and compassion, this is a lovely book.

Sisters Margaret,Bridget and Cecilia are the last remaining members of the sisters of Saint Philomena. Their convent is failing down and there is no money for repairs and it seems like the life of the order is coming to an end until a win on the national lottery sets off an unexpected chain of events.

There is much more to this book than just a heartwarming story, it examines grief and the strains of living with others as well as the joy of everyday small miracles. I thoroughly enjoyed following the sisters and their friends and neighbours. A feel good story.

I feel so torn about this book, I really wanted to love it. Three elderly nuns in a dilapidated convent who end up winning the lottery... sounds hilarious. However, it wasn't. It was sweet, and nice, but not hilarious. I wanted to chuckle along with their escapades but I just didn't find it funny. The beginning of the book bode well, and then I felt it lost its way a bit, up until the trip that the three nuns take, where it did improve from that point to the end. I liked the sub characters, particularly George and Matthew, and I did think the author did a great job of including lots of "small miracles" into the plot, that people would normally take for granted.
