There were too many characters and too many POVs. It just felt so unrealistic. The ending was twisty but very unbelievable.

The writing in this was good, the plot was great, enjoyed the twists and turns, but the swapping between so many POVs… tough. At one point I was confused over who any of the characters were and thought someone was dead who wasn’t… was that the point though? Maybe I missed the intention. Wasn’t for me!

I haven't read anything by Ms McCreight in a while, so I anxiously started this one. It was well written, and even though the jumping between POV's gets confusing, the book was well written and I will read more by her in future. Recommended.

This book was everything I look for in a book. It was so exciting. The plot was fantastic. It really had me on the edge of my seat, and my heart racing. It was very well written and flowed well.

Grippy, edgy and suspenseful a great physiological thriller that had plenty of twist and turns to keep the reader engaged all the way through.

Ten years after graduation, a group of friends plan a reunion in a remote house in upstate New York.
It isn't a bachelor party, as they've led one of their friends to believe, but instead an intervention for an escalating drug addiction. They lost one member of their friendship group in college, and they'll do anything to make sure that doesn't happen again. This book is a total page turner and will keep you entertained with every page.

An Escalation To Murder…
A reunion in a remote part of New York, an intervention, a group of friends, many dark secrets, a hostile community and an escalation that will lead to murder. Gripping, edgy suspense with a large but well drawn cast, a compelling and immersive narrative and leading to a, perhaps, unexpected and surprising denouement.

This is my first novel by Kimberly McCreight.

We meet five friends who are having a reunion in the Catskills, obviously it is never going to be as straightforward as that, as this particular group of friends share some secrets from the past.

Lots of good thrills in this novel and so many backstories for the characters, but the author really explores lots of different kinds of relationships within this novel.

I love reading about these reunions, as there does seem to be so many novels doing the same thing (For me these reunion novels started with Lucy Foley.), but I have to be honest and say that I did get a little lost with these characters and felt that maybe having a list at the front of the book as to who is who would have been a great help.

Thanks to Kimberly McCreight, NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I loved this “close room mystery” type of book telling about a group of friends staging an intervention under the guise of a bachelor party. Interesting and suspenseful!

This reunion/ old friends hiding a secret from the past is quite a common plot in thrillers these days so it means they have to be really good to stand out amongst all the other similar books out there. I'd say this was pretty middle of the road. I wasn't up all night because I couldn't bring myself to stop reading. I felt the story dragged on a bit in places and some of the characters, although not too badly written, I just thought they lacked a bit of common sense maybe? They didn't have me rooting for them, I didn't really care about then at all to be honest. If you don't mind a slower pace of thriller then definitely give it a try because it was a pleasant enough read, it just didn't set a fire in my wee book loving soul but that may just be because I like the faster pace and when I'm forced to phone in sick to work because I just can't stop reading! Hopefully upull have more kick clicking with this than I did. Likewise, if you've not already read this reunion premise type book then this is def an enjoyable starting point

.I was expecting a lot out of this novel and was ecstatic to get my hands on a copy of it.

But unfortunately it didn't fully live up to its hype. Mostly because the main characters are not likeable. They also seem to lack basic communication skills as most of their problems could be solved if they spoke to each other. The author also likes to 'tell more than show" the likeable things about certain characters which makes the writing heavy-handed.

But the last quarter of the book is my kind of read and I enjoyed the fast pace and twists that came with it.

Overall, a 3 star read.

I was so disappointed after reading this novel having loved other books by this author. Maybe I was expecting too much but I never felt compelled to keep reading at any time in the book. You can’t please everyone all of the time I suppose.

A group of college friends witness an incident when they were at school and don’t tell anyone. Years later they plan a reunion for all the group bar Alice, who committed suicide. The group have secrets that will end up with one of them dying.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Headline for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Wow read.
A group of friends plan a reunion in a remote house in upstate New York.
It isn't a bachelor party, as they've led one of their friends to believe, but instead an intervention for an escalating drug addiction. They lost one member of their friendship group in college, and they'll do anything to make sure that doesn't happen again. But from the moment they arrive, something doesn't feel right. The local community doesn't like outsiders, and they're especially hostile to this group. And with so much shared history between old friends, it's inevitable that a secret or two will slip out over the course of the weekend. And one of them will lead to murder.

Really good novel.
It's ab toxic relationship and friendships. The story revolves around what happened to Alice all those years ago, we can’t bear to think of losing anyone else. In fact, we’ll do anything to make sure that doesn’t happen. We’ll go so much farther than we ever thought we would. In the end, maybe that’s what caught up with us. That, and the fact that we’re such a complicated group—so much history and so many big personalities. Secrets, too, that can slip out at the most inopportune moments. Of course, we love each other despite all of those things. We love each other no matter what. There’s something so beautiful about that kind of unconditional love. It can turn ugly, though. Or maybe that’s just us. After all, we’ve already been through so much together. And we have so very much to hide.
I really loved it and couldn't figure out what was going on. Wow. It's a good novel.
Go for it.
