If you’re expecting a romance you will be disappointed as this is very much a sci-fi novel with queer female lead characters. I’m not a big sci-fi fan but really enjoyed the author’s previous space series so I gave this series a go and enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. The first book was a bit slow but the excitement level really picked up with this second book and I could not put it down. The search for the mothership had me on the edge of my seat. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Great continuation of the Dennamore scifi-sagaThis is an organic continuation of the first book in this series and beware to fully "get" this book you really need to have read the first one - no hardship since Gun Brooke weaves a very likely sci-fi yarn.
The revelation that started in book one goes on and picks up momentum. I liked how the story flows smoothly until at the end it comes to a new point of no return. The next installment is sourly needed because there is a cliff-hanger tossed in at the very last page.

I am so jealous of authors who can create an entirely new world or species from just their imagination. I didn’t read the first book but continued on with this one anyway and Gun has written a story that I can’t wait to read more about. Well done and I’m off to book 1.

This is book 2 in the Dennamore Scrolls series and you really have to read book 1 Yearning first to understand what’s going on.

This picks up not long after book 1 ends and focusses on exploring more about finding the Velocity and recruiting more people to the ‘project’. One of these people is Holly Cross, a professor in town who stumbles across the group’s secret and is pivotal to the next stage. The other new major character is Claire, the town mechanic whose ‘yearning’ also leads her to the group.

The original eight characters are given plenty to do, with the deepening of Sam and Darien’s relationship and further discoveries about the town and the ship they are seeking. I did find the blurb misleading, Holly doesn’t stun anyone with her revelation and I thought the blurb implied that Holly and Claire would be couple number 2, and while there are hints this might happen, nothing explicit takes place to confirm this.

It’s hard to review this without giving away major spoilers. Mostly this is a typical second book in a trilogy, in that it unpacks more info, but ends on a cliffhanger because book three will wrap everything up. Although to be honest, I can’t figure out how everything that needs to happen can take place in the final book. Perhaps it will turn into a longer series. I did find the expanding world interesting, but felt the pacing was off, it felt like there was a lot of repetition about discoveries and what had happened previously, and the end seemed very rushed. The so called ‘bad guy’ also played a minor role, and his character doesn’t add anything to the story except to provide a reason for everything to have to be done quickly.

Overall though, this is a nice expansion on book 1 and anyone who enjoyed that will enjoy this. 4 stars.

Science fiction and suspense at it's best. The premise of this story was very well done. I liked that there was not just one story, but several woven throughout this book. The author kept me on my toes, and the romance between the two main characters was sweet, but it wasn't what this story was all about. I can't say to much about what happens, don't want to give any spoilers about the story away. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends and family, and can't wait for the next book in this series.

I love it when I find a new series to obsess about. ‘Velocity’ is the second book in Gun Brooke’s Dennamore Scrolls series, but it can be read as a standalone too. I haven’t read the first book, ‘Yearning’, but I definitely need to now. ‘Velocity’ is the story of a town and its discovery of an alien background they didn’t know existed. Holly Crowe is astounded to find alien artefacts whilst out taking photographs one day and is determined to find out more. Claire Gordon, a local mechanic with a love of science fiction finally finds some meaning and purpose when she too is let in on the secret. As they join others everything begins to make sense. But will it lead them into danger and peril?

This was an intriguing story, with superb world-building and imagination. I love sci-fi and this hit all the right buttons for me. There was love, romance and family too. The group were trying to solve a puzzle and I was completely engrossed in their journey towards discovery. The blend of different characters worked extremely well. We had some sapphic characters and their relationships, but we also had tight family bonds and friendship. I want to find out what happens next to them and can’t wait for the next instalment.

Book 2 in the Dennamore Scrolls series, picking up where book 1 (Yearning) left off. In my opinion it is necessary to read the books in order as the storyline continues without too much explanations. Which is good, I liked the faster pace in this books compared to the first one. It might be because the group finds a captain, but things seem to be moving towards a departure into space. I am really liking this series, the relationship between Darian and Samantha from the first book keeps progressing slowly, the other characters each have their own voice, all characters have a specific role to play and the addition of Holly and Claire as the captain and chief engineer was an interesting development. I can't wait for the third installment in which, I suspect, we will finally head off to the great unknown!

Final thing: the blurb is kind of misleading. Don't expect to be reading a romance, while there are hints towards maybe a mutual interest between Holly and Claire nothing of the sort happens. At all.

Gun Brooke doesn't disappoint as usual. This was hands down a well written fast paced action-packed Sci-Fi story. It will captivate you from the beginning to the end. I recommend getting a copy.

I’ve been looking forward to reading Velocity by Gun Brooke since I consumed Yearning, the first book in “The Dennamore Scrolls” series. I fell in love with the characters and the story in the first novel. This second book has only added to my enjoyment of this tale.

This novel is like a combination of some of my favorite reads. All of the major characters and most of the secondary ones have an undeniable yearning to return to the small town of Dennamore at some point in their lives. That was the original mystery they had to solve in the first book. There are also treasures to unearth, puzzles that must be completed, and a truly wild adventure. There are also hints of alien influences. In fact, it’s way more than just hints. The romance between Darian and Samantha in the first novel continues in this new book with the addition of a new romance starting with Holly and Claire in Velocity. The author did a great job with the setting for this unique story. The characters, more numerous with each book are well-developed and easy to remember.

This is truly a well-written spec-fic/sci-fi series with (so far) at least two lovely WLW romances embedded in the story. Yearning definitely caught my attention and drew me into the story. Velocity has totally hooked me, and I will be waiting impatiently for the next book in the series. I recommend that you get both of these novels and read them in order. Then we will all be ready for the third and final book in this series.

Velocity continues right where The Yearning leaves off. The Dennamore Scrolls series should be read in order. In book one Detective Darian Tennan along with librarian Samantha Pike learn that their ancestors were actually aliens who settled in a mountain valley in the 1700s. They and their small group of friends are learning as much as they can about the technology and spacecraft hidden beneath the lake. If they have hopes of flying the craft they need to let more people in on the secret. The first two, who are already drawn to the area, are college Professor Holly Crowe and local mechanic Claire Gordon.

The action is fast paced as the team work to unlock more of the technology. I kept thinking of Star Trek as a captain is assigned and ranks and titles fall into place for forming a command crew. The light romance continues with Darian and Samantha. Feelings are expressed but it doesn't go beyond shared kisses. Also the potential is there for something between Holly and Claire but nothing is overt. (That surprises me considering the blurb implies more.) I don't read a lot of sci-fi but I can't wait for the next in this series.

The story continues as we dive more deeper into inhabitants of Dennamore whose ancestors were aliens from the planet Dwynna Major. As we learn more about the alien artifacts it’s leads to Holly who believes she the captain of the ship and Claire who wants to believe she has a purpose in life as they team up with the previous characters Samantha Darian and etc…. Everything isn’t easy but everyone is finding out what their purpose is and what it’s means for the world. This was very fast and fun read I like how the author weaves every characters into the plot that it didn’t overpower the story.

Sequel to Yearning. Continues the story of the inhabitants of Dennamore whose ancestors were aliens from the planet Dwynna Major. This book concentrates on finding a way to raise Velocity from the lake and more people willing to help pilot the mothership to find their home planet. Good tale. Waiting now for next instalment!

This is the second part of the series that takes place in a town called Dennamore, on our Planet Earth, in which its inhabitants are experiencing a strange yearning, both those who have always remained in the town and those who had to go to other places for studies or work. This yearning was initially described in the book of the same name Yearning, which is the first chapter of the series.

And if you are wondering if it is possible to read this second episode by itself, the answer is no.

So from here better continue only those who have already read the first part.

In this second the protagonists grow in number slowly but inevitably, since among all the discoveries they are making thanks to their NIECs is the need to form a crew capable of driving what seems to be their ship, Velocity, although first they must discover where it is and how to access it.

The story in addition to having the protagonists of the first chapter, Samantha the librarian who has never left Dennamore, Darian the LA police officer, who returned along with her grandmother Camilla to reoccupy Brynden 4, one of the original houses of the first inhabitants of Dennamore, also Carl, Philber, Brandon, Raoul, and Walker, now increases with Holly and Samantha, which will be of great importance in this second episode and probably in the next one as well.

Desmond Miller is still out there always trying to snoop and meddle, he's not going to make it easy, especially Samantha.

But it has been a good continuation of a previous good first chapter, so I hope that the next one will not take long to discover how the adventure continues, or ends.

This book, or better yet this series, brings out my inner child (maybe it’s not buried that far, but that’s beside the point). It makes me remember watching movies like “The Goonies” and wanting to discover treasures hidden in a secret place full of adventure, questions and riddles to solve along the way. That’s what this book is all about, an ancient secret that has been hidden in Dennamore and being discovered by a group of people (adults in this case). Only this is not a pirate treasure, it resides in the realm of science fiction. I don’t want to say too much about this book for those that have not read the first book. I just want to say that I like how the discoveries continue, how the group of people expands, and how all these sci-fi details are incorporated. There is so much to explore, it is a fun journey.

In the first book there is a starting romance between Darian and Samantha, which continues in this book. I enjoyed reading more about them, the romance is (like in the first book) very light. There is so much happening and the number of characters is pretty big, so there is not a lot of room for in-depth thoughts and feelings. After reading the blurb for this second book I thought there would also be a second romance, between Holly and Claire, but either I completely misunderstood the blurb or it is misinforming, because I didn’t see it. Maybe a romance will form later.

An entertaining book full of sci-fi discoveries. Recommended.

Velocity is book two in The Dennamore Scrolls series. After finding out the Dennamore original ancestors are aliens in book one, we are brought into the discovery of other artifacts the aliens had hidden. As the group of citizens grow in number a Captain is found and the search for the Mother ship and a crew continues.
Brooke has successfully continued her sci-fi series with this robust telling of what happens next when generationally removed ancestors learn how to use alien technology. What could have been a dry discourse is instead fast moving yet information driven with plenty of adventures along the way.
This was a fun and quick read as my interest was an ‘all in’ scenario. Brooke is a master at catching your attention and bringing you into her imagination with ease. If you liked the first book, you will love Velocity. (The books should be read in order to fully understand the story.)
