A breathtaking and compelling read!

Island Home is the very latest ‘celebrity getaway’ – and the jewel in the crown of the Home Group. Each location around the globe is a place where the rich and famous can relax in the utmost luxury with absolute privacy, and they pay a hefty sum for the privilege. As the opening weekend gets underway, the hierarchy attending have no idea what they have let themselves in for . . .

There are many facets to this tale and I found myself completely engrossed in each of them right from the beginning. Through the eyes of a newly hired member of staff, we find out about the nuts and bolts of staffing the resort; next, we encounter the management and, finally, we get to meet the privileged few who made the cut for the launch – something that everyone who is anyone is desperate to attend. And then the fun begins . . . having lulled the reader into a false sense of security, we start to get a peek behind the scenes. Is anyone as they first seem? I’m not sure about that but what I do know is that I couldn’t put this one down! Not the first novel I’ve read by this husband and wife writing team and, based on the excitement of this one, it won’t be the last! Celebrity status doesn’t tend to overly impress me and I have a feeling it will do so even less from now on. This is a captivating tale which kept me on tenterhooks right to the bitter end. I read long into the night, well after I should have closed my eyes, incapable of laying the book aside for another day and I was delighted that the ending was so neat. The characters are excellently drawn, the story is completely mesmerizing and, as expected, the writing is of a very high calibre. A compelling, enthralling story which dominated my thoughts and earns my very highest recommendation and, of course, all five shining stars.

My thanks to Becca Bryant of Mantle both for my copy of this novel via NetGalley and my spot on this tour; this is – as always – my honest, original and unbiased review.

Reading another Lloyd thriller was a dream!
I was completely hooked from the first to final page and nothing couod drag me away from this one.
I could not flip the pages fast enough. Talk about being completely absorbed... I was by the writing and this brilliant, twisted, clever storytelling.
A fun, addictive, wild and extremely entertaining read.
A legit compulsive thriller. With characters that instantly pull in into their world.
Ellery Lloyd is razor-sharp and she can deliciously whip up a tale like no damn other!
I just love her books.

I really didn't enjoy this, in fact, I didn't finish it. Found the story dull in terms of I've read books with a similar story which were better.

Having read Ellery Lloyd's first book People Like Her and enjoying that I was excited to read this book and it didn't disappoint.

Home is an exclusive private members only club with locations all around the world where the rich and famous leave their phones at the door and kick back and enjoy themselves however they please. Only the pick of the members have been invited to the weekend launch of the latest location Island Home, a whole island, and it's set to be the most extravagant one yet. Every member is dying to go!

The story is told from five points of view, Ned Groom the CEO of the Home Group; his brother Adam; Nikki Hayes, Ned's PA; Annie Spark, Head of Membership and Jess Wilson the newly appointed Head of Housekeeping each with their own secrets to hide and story to tell.

The first part of the book is slower paced laying the foundations of the characters and story and leaving little breadcrumbs it then ramps up a gear into a fast paced mystery about greed, debauchery, revenge and glamour full of twists and unexpected turns, I couldn't put it down.

Another good book by the author.

Thank you to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for the ARC

After reading People Like Her, when I saw The Club on NetGalley I knew I wanted to try it, as the main issue I had with People Like Her was that the concept was better than the execution. I definitely enjoyed The Club more, the story is interesting and fast-paced enough to keep you wanting to know more. I disliked all the characters really, but once you understand that for most of them this is the point, it becomes a much better read. My interest did dip a little in the middle where I lost track of who was who and where the story was going, but by the end I was intrigued to know what had happened. It's not my favourite thriller I've read, I think the plot was perhaps overly complicated at times and there was too much focus on too many characters, but I can see this becoming a popular book. I would still read another Ellery Lloyd book as I think their story concepts are great! In my actual review I gave this 3.75 stars, but I've given it four stars here.

This book gave me Fyre Festival vibes...but darker!
The story is told from 5 different view points which at times had me a little confused but it didn't detract from the enjoyment of the book.
It's a slow burn, who dunnit type of book rather than a fast paced thriller.
I loved the setting of the story, on a cut off island in the UK, only accessed by a causeway when the tide goes out. I enjoyed reading about the inner workings of a private, exclusive club and the focus on the celebrity and socialite members. The descriptions allowed me to clearly picture the scenes and I could easily see it being adapted to a Netflix series.

After reading this author’s first book People Like Her I was interested in reading this second offering from her.

It is a story that tells us where ambition gets you and what happens when you have everything to lose and are pushed to the extreme limit. Private members join the ultra exclusive ‘Home Group’ and now there is the latest addition, Island Home, a remote island transformed into the lap of luxury. Anyone who is anyone wants the invite to this prestigious launch, the celebrity event that no one wants to miss. But then the ugly secrets start to come out and it’s clear the weekend won’t end happily…

Unfortunately this didn’t keep me gripped, although some of the ugly truths I didn’t see coming (as some were a little far fetched) I had predicted the majority of the characters stories and connections quite early on and therefore found it dragged a little. Not my cup of tea to be honest as feel it is lacking something but persevered till the end and am glad I did but wouldn’t be something I re-read.

This was a great page-turner for me, twisty and sometimes dark I loved this book. Haven’t read any by this author before so I’m glad I was approved for this one. I read it so quickly as I just couldn’t put it down. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

3,5 ⭐️

The blurb reads “There’s no place like Home” (if this is what Home is like I’d rather be Homeless) and “if your name’s on the list, you’re not getting out” (or you are…feet first!). With such a promising blurb and an island setting (you know I’m a sucker for an island setting) I knew I had to be a member of The Club, and over all I had a satisfying experience over there.

The Home Group, a collection of celebrity member clubs around the world, is launching their new project, Island Home, with a three day party event. Every A-list celeb would do anything to get an invite but, not all that glitters is gold and soon after the first guests arrive tensions will rise and a weekend of luxury and exclusiveness will prove deadly for some of them.

The story follows the often used trend in this kind of stories where we know right from the start that someone is dead, the question is who, and that won’t be revealed until the last pages. And let me tell you, there’s no shortage of candidates to die, and most of them would make great victims as most of the characters are truly despicable!

There’s Ned, the CEO and founder of the Home Group; Adam, his brother and reluctant right hand in the business; Annie, Head of Membership, who will do anything to keep celebs happy; Nikki, Ned’s PA, and who is hiding a big secret of her own; and Jess, Head of Housekeeping, who had an unexpected agenda when she interviewed for the position.

Those were the main players but there were several other characters that made it a bit hard to keep track of who was who, especially during the first half. Too many characters and too much info and backstory about them made me struggle a bit during the first half of the book. Even though it served to flesh out those minor characters, some of it didn’t really add up to the main plot.

But be patient, cause the second half of the book won’t let you catch your breath with secrets and revelations galore! Some of them were really shocking! This second half was so much fun and the outcome really satisfying. Justice was served!

Although the pacing was a bit uneven, the main plot was very entertaining, so pick up a copy if you wanna read about the rich and famous suffering and getting (or not) their comeuppance.

Thanks to NetGalley and Pan MacMillan/Mantle for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

A review where I am pulled 2 ways
This is a dark tale, full of intrigue and mystery and focusing on ‘Home’, a brand that has exclusive clubs for the mega wealthy….what happens at ‘Home’ stays at ‘Home’ and the rich and famous are pretty much free to do as they please with who they please with no comeback….until there is comeback and one night as a new ‘Home’ opens on an exclusive island all that is rotten about the brand and its patrons comes to a head
So far, so good…….but it tends to ramble and repeat itself, backstories feel confused as so many characters battle for you’re attention and for me the ‘Ooooooo’ moment when it is revealed just what has been afoot by the owners of ‘Home’ re their patrons was more of a ‘mmmmmm, well that wouldn’t happen because….discussion as I was reading
It is exciting in parts, very repetitive in others and a touch unbelievable all the way through but the author has created a monster within ‘Home’ and on balance was worth reading

6/10

I read and enjoy plenty of unrealistic books, but this one was too far-fetched for me. Ned Groom and his brother Adam own and operate the luxury hotel chain, Home, which is THE place to be for celebrities on both sides of the pond. (I couldn't stop thinking of Soho House.) While the new 'Island Home' may be a nice (or even the "best") place to stay for a few weeks, I don't think celebrities care that much about a hotel, not enough to lose their own lives or take the lives of others. There's murder. There's blackmail. There's a bit of mystery, but I wouldn't go as far as calling it a "thriller." The middle was slow-going, and I wanted/needed more character development. I mean, we learn almost nothing about the man at the center of it all: Ned Groom. In my humble opinion, this would make a better movie than book.

Thanks to Pan MacMillan and #NetGalley for an advance review copy in exchange for this honest review. #TheClub

This was a crazy twisty book. Loved the different viewpoints and the plot was truly addictive. My favourite part was the luxury setting and the way the authors conjured this was really engaging.

If ever a book is picked for Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club read, you know that you are in for a great treat. The Club by Ellery Lloyd is precisely that.

The newly prestigious Home Club is where the rich and famous gather for some R and R from the peering eyes of the average Joe. Not everyone gets to celebrate the weekend launch. If you're lucky to be asked, there isn't any question about if you go, it is an opportunity you don't want to miss...Or so the characters in this story believe.

It is not long before it becomes apparent that all the members of this precise club have many secrets and troubles to bear. This story is a murder mystery within the highest class of society.

I struggled to put this book down. It is addictive, engaging and intriguing. The writing style and plot twists make this unpredictable and exciting reading. Full of several characters that have their purpose and the various plot twists within the story, it makes the conclusion unexpected but brilliant. This is undoubtedly one to preorder today!

"The classic murder mystery ends with a neat set of motives, a culprit, and a comeuppance. Perhaps that is why we read them. Perhaps that is why we love them. Because real life offers us so few of these consolations."

The Club is an exclusive chain of hotels around the globe known as "Home" and only available to A-list celebrities and the uber elite. No cell phones, no paparazzi, no questions asked. That is why the members of Home love it so much. They have the rare opportunity to let loose without the eyes of the world watching.

This book is written in multiple points of view. It follows Jess, Annie, Nikki and Adam, and also has a Vanity Fair article peppered throughout the book for context. With so many points of view I felt it hard to get into the book and found that the first 180 pages or so were a complete drag-and that's over half the book! The multiple points of view both added and took away from this story for me. The suspense of having to see it from different character perspectives added to the mystery, leaving the reader wondering and guessing up until the very end. I mean VERY END. While I appreciated the mystery aspect of the multiple points of view, the sheer number of characters the reader is left to remember is exhausting, and that for me was enough to want to put it down.

With this book being a Reese's Book club pick I had super high hopes for it, but it fell flat for me in a lot of ways. The first half of the book was a complete drag, with several scenes being repeated through a different characters eyes, which left me feeling tired. The thing that redeemed this book for me was that it really leaves you guessing up until the end, which for someone like me who reads a lot of thrillers and mysteries was refreshing.

Thank you Netgalley and PanMcMillan for my copy of this book!

Loved it!!! An excellent book about an exclusive club, famous members and secrets and scandals. So many characters which made it a tad confusing but so well written and couldn’t put it down!!

After reading and loving Ellery Lloyd’s first book, I was delighted to be accepted by NetGalley and the publishers.

The Club is an exclusive resort set on an island off the British coast, the latest Home venue to open in the world. Ned Groom, the owner and boss of Home, wants this to be the most explosive, news breaking and defining opening party yet. And what the boss wants…..

The story is told by a number of different characters, some in flashback, as the story of the opening weekend unfolds for the reader. The plot is revealed as the body count mounts up. Just whose bodies are found and why have they been killed?

I was gripped by this book and the world of Home.

People Like Her was a decent debut, that I rated three stars due to its chunks of unnecessary descriptions, especially on how to use Instagram which is common knowledge for most millennials. Unfortunately The Club falls into the same pitfalls. A brilliant premise is let down by too much description of the island, where the club is set, how to get, why someone is famous and how the nature of being a celebrity works 🙄 as well too much backstory.
The first is narrated from Jess’s POV in close third person yet this overly long first chapter also bounces of the POV of other characters. My head was spinning from trying to follow who is who.
I found the first half a slog to get through honestly. The second half was pacier but by then I just wasn’t invested enough in the characters to care.

I am rating this 3.5. It started off slow but by half way through the book got better. I didn’t care for any of the characters. Well maybe just Nikki. She’s the only one I actually liked. I liked the storyline. Wealthy club that only a specific group of celebrities gets invited. I kind of figured out where the plot was going but there were some interesting twists which did surprise me. I’m not going to ruin anything for you. All in all a decent book which would make a great movie or limited. Netflix series!!

I loved The Club by Ellery Lloyd! I'm a fan of multiple viewpoints in novels. This is executed brilliantly in The Club as we become acquainted with famous people and their secrets. Delving onto the lives of the staff at Home - the island club for celebrities - proves to be even more illuminating.

The way individuals' lives are woven together is clever and not contrived. None of the characters are particularly likeable but this heightens the tension.

Forget reading Hello magazine. Here is where you'll discover the personal, sometimes deadly, consequences of fame and being hurt by the famous.

3.5 down

Welcome to The Club which the wealthy would kill to join. The Clubs are dotted around the world and are the brainchild of Ned Groom. The latest addition the the impressive portfolio is the Island Home (Boucher Island) in Essex where a three day long party will celebrate its grand opening. This is one opening the well heeled guests will never forget as what they think is a publicity stunt may well turn out to be the murder mystery of the decade. The story is told from four perspectives.

It starts very dramatically so my intrigue antenna is definitely up! I like the format as you get some points of view then a continuation of THAT night which helps to pick up some pace. Throughout the authors give us little evidence bombs and an escalation of animosity between characters so it becomes a good puzzle to figure out whodunnit. None of the characters are particularly likeable so you may well end up with your own hit list! With one character in particular it's very hard to figure out what they are up to and then it all starts to slot into place. What all this amounts to is that there are plenty of motives and people have killed for less.

Whilst the novel is undeniably well written with an excellent premise it is equally undeniable that it is very slow at the start. There is a lot of detail especially on the characters and it's way to much backstory for my liking although it does become relevant later on. There's a lot of gossipy 'Hello' type information on the celebrities which also slows the pace although it does make very valid points on the cult of the celebrity. There are a lot of characters to get your head around although it's worth wading through to get to the nuggets of suspicion and distrust.

The second half is much better than the first and some things you learn pull you up sharply and make you reevaluate what you think you know. There are some excellent, dramatic and almost surreal scenes towards the end and a couple of those are doozies! I like the end-justice served.

Overall, it has a very good second half. I'd class this as a good slow burner mystery but not so much a thriller.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Pan McMillan/Mantle for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.
