This is a fast paced and twisty thriller. This is about friendship, lies and control.
It’s very dark and is a complete page turner.
A great read

This was another brilliant book from a great author. It begins with a missing family with the perfect life - but obviously things are never what they seem. There were some great characters and plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing.
Thanks to netgalley, the author and publisher for this arc. Would definitely recommend.

I picked up this book because the premise seemed quite intriguing and even though I enjoyed parts of it, mainly the finale, other parts fell short.

There were some elements to the story that, had they not been included, the story would’ve been more gripping and less scattered.

If you want to enjoy this book a bit more, a suspension of disbelief is crucial as some things are just, a tad far-fetched.

Still worth a read!

It's Tuesday morning and Julianne calls around to Piper's beachside house for their weekly jog. Piper's husband is Gray, his car is unusually parked on the drive, breakfast is still on their table but none of the family are present. There is a sign that something bad happened, there is blood on their antique chandelier.

Where are Piper, Gray and their two children Riva and Artie? Their cars are in the garage but the house is empty.

In fifteen year old Riva's bedroom, scrawled across the mirror in blood are three words

MAKE
THEM
STOP

This is told from two timelines, before and after the disappearance and from several peoples perspectives.

An excellent psychological thriller which draws you in from the start and keeps you hooked with its unpredictable twists and turns.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book in the Saul Anguish series. I unknowingly read the second book; "All Of Us Are Broken" first which I absolutely loved and I wanted to read the first to find out more about Saul and the darkness inside him.
This first book features a family who mysteriously disappear and the police are called in to look for them. There are of course many secrets and deceptions to uncover and there are multiple plot threads as well. I liked the element of deceit and it was fun trying to work out who would be good and who would be dark. Some of the plot threads are good but I do not think all of them added to the book and they just detracted from the overall enjoyment of the plot, there is one thread in particular, centering around Julianne, that I think could have been taken out. This aside, the plot is good and I liked the sense of mystery and intrigue that is at the heart of this book.
As I have mentioned Saul is a dark character and it was great to learn more about him and his origins and I am interested to see how his story develops. The other characters are good and offered people to root for and wish well.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book but I do think the second instalment is stronger.
Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for an advance copy.

A great fast paced thriller. Missing family? Check! Detective? Check! I love this genre the best and devoured it. Have just bought my daughter and my best friend a copy each.

This was another cracking novel from one of my favourite authors. Into the Dark begins with a missing family. It seemed like they had the perfect life, but obviously things are never what they seem.
This was a great character led novel with some fascinating characters. It was an incredibly twisty tale and whenever I thought I was about to guess the plot something threw me back off.
The writing is as always seamless and enough of the background is given to move the story forward but it always feels like there is something just out of your grasp that would explain it all, just like a mystery should be.
Another superb book and I can't wait to find out what happens next for the DI.

When the Holden family seemingly disappear into thin air, DS Anguish is sent to investigate. But how can a family of four just vanish? Anguish will need to delve deeply into their backgrounds to try and solve this case.

Into the Dark is another of Fiona Cummins’s novels, with many twists and turns as the story progresses. DS Anguish (such a brilliant name for a detective) has his work cut out trying to get to grips with the disappearance. Without giving anything away, the ending has to be one of the darkest and evilest of any novel I have read!

A thrilling, darkly enjoyable story.

If you have read any of Fiona Cummins previous books (Rattle, The Collector, The Neighbour, When I Was Ten), then you will know you are in for a dark, twisty and unpredictable treat.

Into the Dark was published in April 2022 and is the first in a new series featuring DS Saul Anguish. Eagle eyed readers will recognise his name from The Collector and if, like me, you need to read books in order, I would definitely recommend reading Rattle and The Collector anyway.

Into the Dark is set in a small seaside town called Midtown-on-Sea. Inhabited by the rich and privileged, it is home to best friends Piper Holden and Julianne Hillier. Every morning, without fail, Piper and Julianne go for a run together, however when Julianne arrives at Piper’s luxury masion called Seawings there is no-one there. The family cars are in the driveway, the children’s school bags are at the front door, the mobile phones are still charging and the breakfast plates are on the table half-eaten. With the entire Holden family missing the police are called and upon further investigation they find blood splatter and a strange message scrawled on the teenage daughter’s bedroom mirror.

DS Saul Anguish is a new policeman having just arrived in Midtown-on-Sea, he is put on the case of the missing family and soon finds himself facing his own demons. Struggling to fit in, he teams up with Dr Clover March, a forensic linguist also new to Midtown-on-Sea and also facing her own demons and together their forge an unlikely partnership.

The books is told through multiple characters points of views and timelines, switching back and forth from the lead up to the family’s disappearance to the current police investigation. Once again, the author has created some really unlikeable characters and seamlessly blends their backstories and secrets together weaving a very twisted and dark tale.

Into the Dark is a perfect crime thriller guaranteed to keep the reader guessing throughout and eagerly turning those pages to find out what really did happen to the Holden family.

What a delight to read a Fiona Cummins book!! I love the dark and macabre style of her writing and anything that involves death by chainsaw is a winner in my books.

It was great to be back in the world (kind of) of Mr Silver, the serial killer who featured in Rattle and The Collector. Saul Anguish was at one point destined to follow in his footsteps before he saw the light, he is now a DS investigating the disappearance of the Holden family. I love that Saul still has that bit of darkness in him and that he finds a kindred spirit in Blue (Dr Marsh).

I can't wait to read more featuring these characters!!

Highly recommend.

Into the dark is a psychological thriller about wealthy friends, greed and lies. Piper’s friend Julianne arrives at her home to find the whole family have disappeared. DS Saul Anguish has just arrived to start a new job and is assigned the case to work on. Hints are dropped about his past and it appears he doesn’t always abide by the law himself.
I was quickly invested in this book and
struggled work out what had happened given the untrustworthy nature of most of the characters. The book becomes incredibly twisty during the final third which I found difficult to follow mainly because the plot lost my interest by this point.

outstanding read from Fiona Cummins as usual! A cast of deliciously dark characters, a plot so tightly twisted that I had a crick in my neck by the time I'd finished reading it!

"Into the Dark" by Fiona Cummins is a captivating and suspenseful read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The author's writing style is atmospheric and creates a tense and eerie atmosphere throughout the book. The plot is well-constructed and filled with unexpected twists and turns that keep the reader engaged. The characters are well-developed and their stories are engaging, making it easy to become invested in their experiences. However, at times the pacing felt slow, which is why I am giving it a four-star rating instead of a five-star. Overall, I would highly recommend "Into the Dark" to fans of psychological thrillers and crime fiction.

This is a very twisted, multi-layered psychological thriller that I audible gasped at more than once.

The book centres on two families who live enviable lives; perfect houses, perfect life styles and perfect friendship. Well, that's the impression that they want to create because treachery and depravity lurk on every page and one family has gone missing leaving a very worrying scene behind.
The layers of deceit from pretty much all the characters meant that I was constantly having to re-evaluate my suspicions about what exactly happened and why. This created the most delicious tension and, if I'm honest, the ending was almost a relief.

My thanks go to the publishers and NetGalley for the advanced copy in return for an honest review.

I loved this!! This was a fast paced thriller that kept me engaged throughout till the last page.

It had a dark element to the plot and there were so many twists to this book, that it was so difficult to predict what was going to happen next

The ending was especially good as it kept me wondering if there's going to be another book to follow up to find out what happened to Piper.

Thank You NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for the ARC!!

I've just recently become a fan of Fiona Cummins. As usual, this was a thrilling and well plotted read. I will continue to read her work. However, I guessed a lot of this early on and was mainly reading to she if I was correct. But, there was still a surprise or two towards the end that kept me in suspense. Thriller fans will enjoy this one
