Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

One Good Thing is a wonderful read and one that will definitely be in my top reads of 2023.

Alexandra Potter is a great storyteller; her writing is highly readable and drew me in from the start. The characters are well-developed, relatable, and, most importantly, believable.

We follow Liv, our newly divorced protagonist, who decides on a whim to leave London and relocate to Nettlewick in the Yorkshire Dales (where her grandparents lived), and what a gorgeous backdrop God's own county provides to the story.

I enjoyed the sense of community and the friendships Liv formed with the lovable mixed-age bunch of characters: Valentine, Maya, Stanley, and Ben; the mixture of ages worked perfectly. I also found my new favourite fictional pooch in Harry, the rescue dog with personality who completely stole the show.

One Good Thing is an uplifting read that warmed the cockles of my heart. It's full of warmth and humour, has a cantankerous, miserable old character, a beautiful setting, and an adorable dog — what's not to love?

A story of hope, belonging, family, friendship, and love — a joyous hug-in-a-book.

This was such a gorgeous and emotional read. We follow different characters on their different journeys, each one was unique but also ensured the characters interacted in some way. All of the different plots are heart-warming and some are extremely emotional. I loved these characters and the plot and setting was just exquisite.
Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for an advance copy.

A brilliant read and one I really enjoyed. The characters are loveable and varied, the plot is one that is engaging and medium paced. I found myself completely drawn into the story and enjoyed the writing style.

was so excited when I got the email from @randomthingstours , to join this tour. I have previously read 'confessions of a 40 something f#@k up' by Alexandra Potter, and I really loved it. So I certainly jumped at the chance to read this one.
I was not left disappointed, I absolutely loved this one aswell. It was very easy to sink into it. And it was a very empowering story. I just loved Livs story.
If you loved the confessions book, you will love this one just as much. If you haven't read either, I highly recommend reading them both. Amazing books!

Newly divorced Liv leaves London to start a new life in the Yorkshire Dales. Time for a fresh start in her cottage.
Along the way she meets new friends and gains a rescue dog Harry .
The book deals with a number of issues : divorce, Alzheimers, Autism and loneliness. Everyone throughout has their own story whilst Liv focuses on rebuilding her life again.
A perfect feel good read whilst navigating her way through her new life.

I've been reading Alexandra's books for many years. This is a lovely read. It really made me think about my own life and what changes I can make, but also what little things I can do for others as well. The characters in this book are just beautiful and I've love to meet them all in real life!

I’ve just finished the audio book. Loved the story so much. What wonderful characters they all were. Love how her books are so relatable. Loved Confessions of a 40 something f**l up and One good thing. Both books make me feel not so bad being nearly 39, single and not got all my shit/life sorted 😂

This is the first book I've read from this author, and I definitely will be reading more.

One Good thing is all things comforting and happy, even though the story starts with a melancholy feel, as Liv is in the early days of her breakup. We've all been there, and it sucks, and this author really makes you feel for Live and root for her from the off.
I loved the characters she met along the way and enjoyed getting to know them as well as Liv. Little Stanley, Valentine and Maya.
I don't want to spoil the story here, but I absolutely loved Liz and the way the author tracked her new life story through the months and the pace was just right.
The dialogue was believable and funny. Such a terrific book.

Five stars for me.

This was much better than I was expecting – less dreary and more upbeat than I was expecting.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

Meet Liv who, newly divorced, has left her job and house in London to move to the remote Yorkshire Dales.
Feeling lonely she adopts Harry a rescue dog who helps her as much as she helps him.
She integrates herself into local life meeting her elderly neighbour Valentine, Stanley a young boy always in his garden, both adore Harry.
Lovely rural area, friendship surviving momentous changes,

A wonderfully wholesome heartfelt, feel good read, full of hope, second chances, romance, friendship and the most wonderful dog Harry!
Liv newly divorced flees London to live in a ramshackle cottage in the Yorkshire Dales that has great childhood memories for her! Hoping to make a fresh start and heal from the trauma of her husbands affair by leading a more simple laid back existence!
Add into the mix a loveable rescue dog who rescues Liv as much as she rescued him! A charming enigmatic builder, an autistic little boy Stanley, teenager Maya and an elderly pensioner Valentine you have the most wonderful, eclectic mix of people who between them all help heal each other from loss, loneliness, grief, teenage angst, special needs, caring for dementia loved ones, demonstrating that kindness, companionship, community and love are such powerful agents of change and never to be under estimated.
Thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful read.
Thank you netgalley for this early read.

I do love an @alexandrapotter novel! I thoroughly enjoyed 'One Good Thing' with the warm and diverse characters, a variety of relationship types to follow, plenty of drama and plenty of humour, loved it!

Our heroine is Liv, who rather impulsively swaps her London life for the Yorkshire Dales following a divorce. She moves into a old cottage in the heart of a community that is very different to her old life and this is the story of how she adapts. Out of a very difficult life event, Liv tries to make something beautiful. I was really rooting for her the whole way through and with such an array of characters there is someone for many people to relate to.

If you love the film The Holiday, you'll love this, a great summer read! Also if you are a dog person, give this a read!

Thank you to @netgalley and @panmacmillan for the opportunity to review. Out in the UK now.

What starts off as introductions to seemingly unlinked characters, in fact so unlinked, I had to check the blurb to make sure there might be any logic too it, turns into a really heartwarming story.

These turn into unlikely friendships with Livie and arguably her rescue dog Harry at the heart of it all.

Harry is definitely the star of the book, and I also really enjoyed Valentine's and Stanley's stories.

I wish we had seen more of Stanley as he was so incredibly well written.

There are some surprising turns of events at the book progresses and I really enjoyed discovering them.

A highly enjoyable novel filled with real and relatable characters and situations that you can identify with.

Thank you to MacMillan and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Such a lovely book. I found the start a little slow and wasn’t sure where the book was going to go but I loved the different characters, the wide ranging friendships and how they develop. A heart warming hug of a book. Highly recommended

One Good Thing is definitely the best book I've read by Alexandra Potter. This was a lovely, thought provoking book that deals with many things like Autism, Alzheimers, loneliness, heartbreak and grief. I absolutely loved Liv. Her strength, compassion and transformation from heartbroken divorcee to this confident woman, who turned her life around throughout the book was admirable. The book also highlights the importance of animals in our lives. Harry was definitely the star of the book for me. It warmed my heart to read about a mistreated, senior dog being given a second chance in life and seeing the effect he had on others around him. Let's not forget about the importance of human interaction which is heavily implied throughout the book, and how a little kindness goes a long, long way.

Liv’s husband has left her for his (much younger) yoga instructor. Needing a new start, she buys a run-down cottage in the Yorkshire Dales, where she spent many happy holidays with her grandparents. At first she feels lost and alone, wondering if she has made a huge mistake, when a chance encounter leads her to adopt a rescue dog called Harry. On their daily walks they meet Valentine who has shut himself away since his wife developed Alzheimer’s and had to go into a home, and eight-year-old Stanley who sees the world outside his gate as a noisy and scary place. Harry is the catalyst that enables them to engage with the wider world again. Liv may have rescued Harry, but Harry helps everyone else.
After a bit of a slow start, where I was not immediately gripped, the story picked up and I read the rest in one sitting. One Good Thing features a cast of well drawn and believable characters, and a photogenic setting in the vividly evoked Yorkshire countryside. There is a subtle balance between the sad and touching moments, and the fun and hilarity, but it is never overly sentimental. I particularly enjoyed the chaos of the house renovations, the day trip to Whitby, and the various outings Liv takes with Maya trying to help her prepare for her exams.
Having enjoyed a lot of Alexandra Potter’s earlier books, I thought I’d give One Good Thing a try. This is a more mature work where the sole focus of the narrative is not on a romantic relationship, but features a cast of characters who are all suffering in one way or another and just need ‘one good thing’ to help set them on the path to enjoying life again. Although I am more of a cat person, I thought Harry was wonderful, absolutely ‘man’s best friend’. Thanks to Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for a digital copy to review.

This was a lovely uplifting story about heartbreak, how to fix it and opening your eyes and heart to new and unexpected possibilities. It made me smile, laugh and cry. Just what you need in a good book.

One Good Thing by @alexandrapotter another NetGalley read. The main character Liv has recently divorced, facing an unknown future and starting a fresh. Liv feels lost and broken until she moves to the Yorkshire Dales where she not only refurbs her house but rebuilds her life and where we are introduced to an eclectic mixed of characters. I loved this this book, a great book for reading in the sunshine. For me this book was like watching your favourite soap in tv, it felt real, relatable and like reading about people you knew. Liv is an amazingly strong woman, perhaps certainly at first she doesn’t know how strong she is yet without trying it aimed off the pages that she is an endearing and caring character, in her past it seems she was somewhat of a people pleaser, mainly to her husband but in this new town she’s blossoms. This is a warm hearted, easy, feel good read with surprises throughout, that you can’t help falling in love with. I read books by this author before (however not for a while) and reading this reminded by why I fell in love with this authors books before. If you haven’t read anything by this author before or are a fan you won’t be disappointed. I will be recommending this to friends and family without a doubt and can’t wait to see what’s next from this author. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
