I had not previously read a lot of Katie Fforde's books, or the other two in this series. At first I was a bit apprehensive about it being set in the 60s as I am not usually a fan of books set in the past due to the writing style it usually requires, However, I absolutely adored this book and had it finished in 1 day!

Cannot wait to read more by Katie.

When I started this book, I have to confess, I found it quite hard to get into, it was a little slow going for me. It was however a lovely story that was beautifully written and captured me in the 'happy ever after' way that fairy tales do.

At around 50%, I realised that I was actually quite involved in the whole story and was itching to read more and more of it. If anything, I found the last part to be quite rushed. I was so invested that I wanted to read more about the couple once they were married. This was really skimmed over/not adressed at all.

I struggled a little with the time line if I am truthful - some of the time I forgo that we were in 1963 and felt that the language suggested much much earlier than that, and some of the attitudes.

Overall though, a thoroughly enjoyable read.

I like Katie Fforde's books and she can be relied upon to deliver accessible romantic fiction. This strays a little into the Mills and Boon territory, but is still an enjoyable easy read.

Katie Fforde is a truly wonderful author and this book is another fabulous example of why - love, romance, French culture and a wedding. What more could you want? I really enjoyed the storyline, the characters and the era/setting. It is a great, easy-to-read book.

A pleasant read, which doesn't feel untimely or too strikingly "set in the 60s." Part of a series, and you may need to read the previous instalments to get a best feel for this story, which I sadly have not.

An old fashioned simple romance story. Young Alexandra ended up at a French chateau as a nanny for a month. A practical young woman, she is, and find herself the centre of the family before long. Throw in a handsome count and the stage is set

An average easy read. I couldn’t relate to the main character Alexandra and found her irritating. However I enjoyed the setting of France during the 60s

A lovely read. Set in the 60s but to be honest that has little bearing on the narrative - jute a lack of mobile phones! :) Thoroughly enjoyable and like slipping on a favourite pair of socks! A lot happens in the last third of the book which gives it a slightly uneven pace but that takes nothing away from this cosy read.

Thank you Netgalley

An easy to read slice of romantic escapism that Katie Fforde is so well known for now. You always know what you're getting and she never disappoints.
This story is set in the early sixties and 20 year old Alexandra has left London and found herself living in a Chateau in Provence as nanny to three, initially a bit hostile, children while their Count father works away. It's not hard to see where the story is going from the outset but it's beautifully told and perfect escapism. Thoroughly enjoyable.

This is the second of a trilogy about three girls who meet on a cookery course in London, but it can be read as a stand alone novel. It is set in a chateau in Provence in the early 1960's and tells the story of Alexandra, who arrives to take care of three children for a month before she goes to Switzerland to a finishing school. It is almost a predictable story, where the nanny falls for the divorced father who has custody of the children, the overbearing mother who flits in and out of their lives, the romantic chateau which all add to the idyllic escapism of the novel. There are no huge surprises but it is a lovely read, perfect for the beach or the pool. If you have read Katie Fforde before you will know what to expect and you will not be disappointed. A pretty location, well drawn characters and a very pleasant storyline.

Katie Fforde does not disappoint a enjoyable romantic story. You really feel you are part of the characters lives. I got into reading Katie Fforde books from my mum, she used to have all of the books on her bookshelves, and it was a part of my childhood seeing my mum reading one. This made me feel very nostalgic in a full circle. Really enjoyable.

An absolutely romantic story between an English nanny and a French count, combining the best of both worlds in terms of cuisine, fashion, culture, customs and people. A delightful read!

In the novel, Jane Eyre comes up more than once as a comparable story, however, to me this book felt like a retelling of The Sound of Music. Same period, strikingly similar situation, different country.

A delight for the senses. Beautifully rounded characters, gorgeous food and the the charming setting of 1960s Provence. This is a quick and lovely read full of love and friendships. Everything we expect from Katie Fford. Fans will not be disappointed. I enjoyed watching the characters grow and theire relationships bloom. Family isn't always blood ties, but rather the people we surround ourselves with and open our hearts to. #aweddinginprovence #katiefford #netgalley

On her way to finishing school in Switzerland, Alexandra has a stopover in Paris. A spilt bag of shopping on the steps in Montmartre leads to her agreeing to cook for a dinner party that evening which in turn leads to her taking a job as a nanny. With her skill set, Alexandra hardly needs finishing school! The story moves to a dilapidated chateau in Provence where we meet her three young charges, their handsome father, his haughty ex-wife and a host of other characters. The adventures begin. The ending is inevitable. And it really doesn’t matter.

It’s been a while since I read a Katie Fforde. Having devoured her early books, I’ve fallen behind and began this one with anticipation and a healthy curiosity. Would her books still offer the same experience? My answer is yes and no. Alexandra is a young heiress, with an overly complicated backstory. She is not the sort of heroine I remember: a slightly older woman struggling financially and juggling various complicated obstacles whilst trying to make ends meet and remain endlessly cheerful and positive. Actually, Alexandra is doing all those things, just in a more exotic setting and at a much younger age and with a fortune behind her. Along the way we are treated to plenty of delicious descriptions of food and meals, we get to know the chateau and meet some lovable pets as well as lovable people.

Initially I was disappointed to have lost the slightly chaotic, English domestic settings that I loved but it wasn’t long before I was deep in the story and enjoying every predictable moment as much as the descriptions of delicious meals, the shabby chic rooms in the chateau and the array of characters both English and French. I have missed Katie’s books!

My thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for an advance review copy in exchange for an independent review.

Katie Fforde never disappoints. I always feel as though I’m there part of the story. A Wedding in Provence was full of romance, kindness and relationships between family and friends. A 5***** read

Following on from A Wedding in the Country where three young women, Lizzie, Alexandra and Meg, meet on a cookery course and become firm friends, A Wedding in Provence is Alexandra’s story. A chance meeting in Paris leads to her being employed as a nanny to three French children who live in a chateau in Provence. Their father is absent a lot of the time, and their mother left many years before, so they present her with a bit of a challenge to say the least. However, Alexandra is a capable and resourceful young woman and, despite disapproval from almost everyone she meets, gradually gains the children’s trust. Her relationship with them is the main focus of the story, with the romance almost taking second place.
I have read all of Katie Fforde’s novels over the last twenty years or so, and A Wedding in Provence has a lot of the familiar elements that make her books so memorable. Although it features several characters from her previous book, it won’t matter if you have not read it. It stands on its own just fine, but some things will make more sense if you do.
It is always a pleasure to escape from the real world into a Katie Fforde book, and this is no exception, though I still like her early books the best. The characters are well drawn and believable, and there is a strong sense of time and place, with France in 1963 vividly depicted. It definitely makes you want to book a holiday in Provence and head off in search of the sun. I’m hoping that the next book will be Meg’s story and continue the 1960s theme.
