I have loved every book of this author, and she hasn’t disappointed with Dark Lover!! I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t put it down. Amazing read.

This is a hard review to write, I really wanted to love this story because I had heard such great things about it but, for me, it didn't hit the mark. There were some things I really liked about it, I'm not gonna lie, the sex was steamy, sexy and HOT! I also liked the world-building. I love when a lot of thought goes into creating a fantasy world that you can get lost in and the author did a great job with this. I liked that it wasn’t all thrown at you from the start so you could get into the story without all the long explanation of the vampire world.

I had really high hopes for this book (and the series) because for years I’ve heard all the hype but sadly this book did nothing for me. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either. I struggled to get into the story, there were so many POV’s that I am afraid I just got bored. I was looking for a dark romance which is what I thought I was getting with the blurb but that sadly fell flat. I struggled to finish the book but I’m glad I did.

Dark Lover is the first book in the well-known long-running Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward. I’ve wanted to read this series for a while having been a huge fan of supernatural romance in my teens and early adulthood, so I was excited to see this was being re-published.

This book was an easy to read, fun-filled urban fantasy romance which will appeal to people who enjoy authors such as Christine Feehan or Sherrilyn Kenyon. There are plenty of books to read in the series and I love the idea of each book focusing on a different character who you have already met. This book introduces the 6 main members of the Black Dagger Brotherhood and I quite liked the unique spellings of the names (e.g. Torhment, Rhage, Zsadist).

The romance was cheesy and over the top, the men about as alpha as you can get. If you like your romance insta-love and steamy then this one is for you.

Overall, this was an enjoyable, easy-to-read story that I finished in one sitting. It didn’t inspire me to immediately jump into the next book in the series but I will definitely keep this author on my radar and will likely go back at some point and continue reading the others.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A secret band of Vampire warriors defend there new King Wrath. A half human/vampire Beth has no knowledge of these warriors until the time of her change. There is a war between Vampires and Slayers that will greatly influence the new relationship between Wrath and Beth. This is an exciting start to a strong series of hot vampires who you will be cheering for. Strong characters who you will hope will get their own stories.
I was given an arc of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Oh man.
I didn't expect to like this as much as I ended up doing. I'm even coming dangerously close to loving this! Even though the names of most of the male characters (Wrath, Phury, Vishous, Rhage, do I need to go go on?) sound like vampire versions of Magic Mike strippers...
I'm also usually not into the whole sex-at-first-meeting kind of stuff, but this story had so much depth that I didn't even mind!

This is the first book in the series of Black Dagger Brotherhood, this is a fantastic story which had me gripped from page 1 until the very end.

The whole series is a great read but this book still stands out because of Wrath being a pure blood vampire trying to fight the slayers and lessers who want to wipe out the Vampires altogether.

The Vampires are unknown to the humans who live in Caldwell but the war rages on in back alleys and side streets with the human's not knowing what is going on.

Wrath wants vengeance for the death of his family and relishes each death of the slayers, then Wrath meets Beth and a true love story begins, well worth the thrilling page turning read and highly recommended!!!

I Thought this book was a great start to this series. A new take on vampires and how they live and feed, i felt it really refreshing. The characters were full of depth and Beth was very likeable and wrath is super hot! I also loved all the side characters and cannot wait to read more about them!

Time on my hands so a re-read of this amazing series was in order!

Kicking off the series is Wrath. Wrath may be the king and the sole surviving pureblood Vampire but that does not make him invulnerable. He may be very hard to kill but he is hiding a big secret - his blindness! He has an "arrangement" for a blood supply from a female vampire but there is zero attraction on his side.

Enter Beth. She has no idea that things that go bump in the night even exist. So her introduction to the Brotherhood is now easy or seamless. Wary of her attraction to a king who doesn't want to be king, Beth finds it easy to latch onto his feeding arrangement to try and keep herself from falling for him. But they are tied in a way that neither imagined and hiding from each other is not going to last!

Lots of world-building, character introduction, and the camaraderie between the brotherhood is oh so human! Beth is no damsel in distress, even when she is out of her depth - I love a feisty heroine!

I remembered more of this than I thought I would. Considering there's over 15 books in this series. Some parts of this make me cringe (Basically any part Marissa makes a show) and some make me laugh. I'm crazy about this series. The fact that this series is still ongoing is a testament to the writer and to how strong the fandom is after all this time. Wrath and Beth are the OG's in all the ways. I volunteered to read and review a complimentary copy of this. All opinions are my own.
