Had no idea until reading other reviews on here that this was in fact part of a series of books, so little doubt in my mind that this can be read as a standalone.
Definitely not one for the squeamish amongst us, this book grabbed me from the off and kept me hooked, leading to a couple of late nights, when I thought I'd just read a little bit more and then another little bit more.
Plan on going back and reading the two previous books and look forward to further installments.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an unbiased review.

This is the third in a series of ‘Holly Wakefield’ thriller / detective novels. I don’t think it matters you haven’t read the first two, although I think it might have helped if you had.
Can be quite graphic at times so if you are squeamish this might not be for you!
A dark and twisted whodunnit that is definitely worth a read!!

As this was my first book by the author and in the series, I did not knew what to expect and I loved that I was pleasantly surprised by the book.
I live a good thriller just like next person and this one has delivered in spades .
Twisted, suspenseful, reliable and character growth where personal life takes priority at times, so many turns and loose ends that will make for a great outcome at the end of the book.
I’m looking forward to read more by this author in the future.
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy

Wow. Absolutely fantastic thriller, although being the third in series it can be read as a stand-alone. Couldn’t put it down, compelling story and great characters. Looking forward to book four.

This was a real chiller…. The twisty, heart-racing new serial killer thriller in the Holly Wakefield series….. The characters are so well drawn and the plot so well paced, I couldn’t put it down.

A spine chilling book about a serial killer. It starts off with the death of a prostitute and gradually more deaths that appear to be related are revealed. All the investigations into possible suspects lead to dead ends. Then there are a couple of twists in the story and the suspense builds up. A real page turner towards the end.
I like the characters, the main detective, Bishop and the psychologist, Holly , both have their own problems which are described and give insight into their characters without taking over the book too much. The plot is intricate though believable and the book has left me wanting to read more by this author. The third in the Holly Wakefield series, it reads fine as a stand alone
Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

When Silence Kills by Mark Griffin is the third book in the superb Holly Wakefield crime series and what a series this has been. Its brilliant! I was hooked again from the beginning and could not put it down. This book has lots of twists and turns and I did not want it to finish!
Looking forward to Mark's next book.
I highly recommend this Holly Wakefield crime series 5 stars from me.
Big Thank you to Little Brown Book Group UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Full of suspense and pace this was a great read with likeable central characters, the clever storyline reveals criminal phycologist Hollys dark background story as she throws herself into helping solve a series of grisly murders. Whilst I hadn’t read the previous two books this didn’t seem to matter but I will go back and read these whilst I eagerly wait for the next chapter.

When silence kills by Mark Griffin.
The Holly Wakefield Thrillers Book 3.
A killer so clever, nobody hears the screams . . .
When the mutilated body of a woman is discovered in her home, DCI Bishop from the Met murder squad is called in to oversee the case. The horrific killing bears a striking resemblance to three other murders years before, but the cases were never solved. Bishop knows they need the help of Holly Wakefield, a criminal psychologist who specialises in getting inside the minds of serial killers. The grisly murders occur every three years, but it is the stick-man drawing left at each crime scene that has the police baffled. A post-mortem also detects a cocktail of drugs that can leave a victim screaming in silence. No one would have heard their cries for help.Holly suspects that they are a missing a vital clue that links the victims. But can she discover the link before the killer comes knocking at her door?
A really enjoyable read. Great story and characters. I loved Holly’s character. I do hope there is more to come. 5*.

Netgalley can be a great way to discover new series and I discovered this one a couple of year ago.
It was love at first page and I read in one setting. It had a bizarre side effect because I use to read mostly traditional and cozy mystery and the story changed my taste,
I've been waiting for two years for this one and all of my high expectations were met.
It was another story I read in one setting as was involved in Holly and Bishop personal story and fascinated by the investigation in the terrible killings.
It's a nail biting, twisty, and quite dark story that kept me on the edge, a page turner I couldn't put down.
Great plot and character development, excellent storytelling.
I can't wait to read the next story.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Thank you to #NetGalley for the advance copy of #WhenSilenceKills by #MarkGriffin
A very enjoyable read.
When I woman is found brutally murdered in her own home, the killing is instantly recognisable as the work of two previous murders.
Neither of which were ever solved.
DI Bishop of the met police is in charge of the investigation and calls on Holly Wakefield a psychologist who has helped him on two previous murder cases.
Although there are two earlier books (which I have now purchased) the book works well as a stand alone.
The story grips from the first page and the action keeps going until the end.
Great work.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fan flippin’ tastic. Absolutely brilliant, I was totally gripped by this book, can’t wait for the next one! Great characters and really original storylines. Completely shocking and compelling plus the enticing will they won’t they element between Holly and Bishop. Loved it.

3.75
This book was so slow that I almost wanted to dnf it! But as it kept going the tension started increasing and it suddenly turned into a nail biter.
Its full of twists and turns, and leaves you guessing right up until the last moment!
And that final twist? I was shook! WOWW....didn't see that coming
However there were a few parts which were so confusing which is why I am giving the book a 3.75 rating but overall it is a great read! Highly recommend:)
Also I just realized that this is part of a series but it can be read as a standalone as well because I didn't read the first few books but I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything.

Although the main story is contained well herein, for maximum enjoyment, specifically with regard to the main characters, their backstories and development, I do recommend you start from book one and read in order.
So... we start with the mutilated body of a woman in her own home. It bears quite a resemblance to other murders from a few years back, the perpetrator of which has never been found. Enter DI Bishop to investigate. He immediately calls in Holly Wakefield, a criminal psychologist as it's obvious her talents could well assist. On investigating the murders, they now link them, they puzzle over the drawings that have been left at each scene. What is the significance? What have others missed in their investigations that Holly could now find? What indeed... and with the net closing in on the killer, will they catch them before they find themselves as targets?
I loved Holly's first two outings and I loved this one just as much. It hit the ground running, sucked me in for the duration, and spat me out at the end, exhausted but satisfied. I love Holly as a character, especially her interaction with Bishop, both personal and professional. Holly is somewhat distracted in this book as she has some personal stuff to come to grips with which also concerns her brother. But she manages to close the door on all that enough to assist the police. Bishop has his own demons which also threaten to derail him but, by the end of the book, it looks like he will be more on an even keel come the next outing.
Pacing is good, consistent with the narrative and ramps up nicely as we reach the conclusion. There is also no superfluous padding or waffle to be found, and the characters' personal stuff complements the case being investigates rather than overshadowing it.
All in all, a cracking addition to a series which is shaping up nicely. Roll on next time. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Disturbing, thrilling and cleverly written. I love this series, a must read for fans of Nicci French.

This is a great crime thriller.
The body of a woman is found and it’s clear the killer is very disturbed. With multiple stab wounds and in particular her eyes, Bishop and Holly are determined to catch the person responsible.
When Bishop sees the drawing of stick people he knows it’s the same killer he tried to find years earlier.
Another person is soon killed and again their eyes have been stabbed and a drawing is left behind.
It takes a while but Holly eventually pieces it all together and just when they think it’s all finished, there’s a real shock in store.
Holly is also dealing with some personal issues as the person who killed her parents has asked for parole.
The ending of the book leaves the next story nicely lined up, and I can’t wait to find out what’s in store.
Thanks to Little Brown Book Group UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Book three featuring crime-solving duo DI Bishop and forensic psychologist Holly Wakefield. A childlike stick drawing is left at the scene of the horrific and violent killing of prostitute "Vee", stabbed multiple times in her eyes. The murder links to two cold cases, spread three years apart. A deadly game of cat-and-mouse begins as the duo close in on this unusual serial killer. A dark and intense thriller, highly recommended.

I hadn't realised this was part of a series but I don't think that took anything away from hoe much I enjoyed this book! Ot was a really enjoyable crime thriller type. It had the usual twists and turns although I felt it was a bit of a slow burn. I loved the main characters and am looking forwards to reading the rest of the series to get a better feel for them. It was quite suspenseful and kept up the tension throughout

When the body of a prostitute is found in her home and DI Bishop is tasked to solve the case he once again turns to Criminal Psychologist Holly Wakefield for help to catch the killer.
This crime is suspiciously similar to another cold case where the perpetrator leaves a drawing in crayon at the scene. The other similarities that Bishop can't ignore are the two drugs found in the system of the victims are the same found in this latest killing. the last killing was 3 years ago - so the police are baffled but are convinced it's the same killer. Can the work together again and solve this case?
This book is full of the same twists and turns, and leaves you guessing right up until the last moment! we also see the relationship developing between Bishop and Holly, and also there's more things that are haunting Holly about her parents' murder 20 years ago, so she is constantly battling to help solve the case as well as dealing with her own issues at the same time.
I would definitely recommend this book - I read the other 3 in the series first which were all fantastic, that way i had a better picture of the characters and how they link and develop together through the books.
Thank you for letting me read this - I look forward to the next one!

This is the latest in Mark Griffin's terrific crime series featuring forensic psychologist Holly Wakefield, a woman with her own traumatic personal history, she is an academic teaching at King's College in the Behavioural Sciences and works at Wetherington Hospital, where her brother, Lee, is incarcerated for murder. This is the third case in which she is taken on as consultant by DI Bill Bishop, an ex-military cop running Hammersmith's Major Crimes Unit, the pair have developed a close relationship. The horrific murder of a sex worker, 'Vee', in Brighton, her eyes stabbed, and a child like stick drawing left at the scene, echoes the MO of 2 cold case murders of a retired GP in 2013 and Mike Thomas in 2016, with 3 years between each killing, suggesting a disciplined and intelligent killer.
The original 2 investigations were led by now retired DCI Eddie Walker, with Bishop working on both cases, only for them to be frustrated and defeated by a complete lack of leads. Bishop now leads the reopening of the cold cases, with a large team that closely liases with Sussex CID. Struggling to pinpoint the true identity of Vee, it is hard to find any connections between the three murder victims, despite the team working flat out, whilst having to contend with the most troubling of journalists, Andy Brook. Holly is certain there are other murders they have yet to uncover, simply because she is certain the adept, forensically aware killer didn't emerge fully formed without having had previous form as she highlights the elements that characterise serial killers. Additionally, Holly's haunting past comes to the fore as her parents killer is up for parole, testing her to her emotional limits, whilst she finds herself in grave danger as the pieces begin to finally come together as they begin to close in on the killer, concluding in a shocking finale.
Griffin writes a suspenseful and tense crime story, outlining closely the investigative team's processes and progress, capturing the dedication and commitment of the hard working police team, pulling out all the stops, desperate not to repeat past failures. Bishop and Holly's relationship continues to develop, both relying on and supporting each other, attracted to each other despite each of them feeling broken, there is Holly's trauma and the difficulties Bishop has in getting over the death of his fiancee, Sarah, in Afghanistan, with him finally making the choice to see a therapist. This was a compulsive crime read, dark and intense, and it concludes in such a manner that it is clear where the next book in the series is going. Many thanks to the publisher for an ARC.
