I really enjoyed this read, It was a slow burner to begin with that picked up in pacing as the tension increased. The storyline was good and I liked the writing as well as the character development. I liked that there were mulitple stories/sunplots going on all interwoven into the original plot. A good read.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for a review copy of When Silence Kills, the third novel to feature forensic psychologist Holly Wakefield and DI Bill Bishop of the Hammersmith Major Crimes Unit.

When a woman is found murdered in her home, her wounds and the stick man drawing left beside her remind Bishop of two unsolved cold cases murders, one from three years and one from six years ago. With no clues, motive or links between the victims he asks Holly to consult.

I thoroughly enjoyed When Silence Kills, which is an absorbing read with an intriguing plot. The novel is mostly told from Holly’s point of view and that allows the reader to get immersed in events and guess alongside her. I couldn’t put it down as I tried to formulate theories and beat her to the punch, mostly unavailingly I must confess.

On the whole the plot is well paced with strategic reveals and logical, organic developments. There is one glaring exception to this that became quite annoying. How can they not identify the victim when she has her own house and apparently claims benefits? It turns out that a few developments hinge on who she is and the author wanted to save it for later in the novel, but still, it’s not particularly credible. Having said that, this is the only misstep in an otherwise excellent read.

The novel concentrates on the hunt for an unusual serial killer and is compelling reading, but there is a subplot concerning the murderer of Holly’s parents. The author has a fair stab at describing her feelings, but I couldn’t quite relate to it, probably because I’ve never been in that position.

When Silence Kills is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

This is an excellent installment in the Holly Wakefield series and the best to date. It started off slowly and there were multiple strands in the tale, all woven expertly together in this well written tale. I liked the developing characterisation and the plot was interesting, I never guessed who the villain was and the ending was superb. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

DI Bishop and Holly Wakefield return in When Silence Kills which is book three in the series by Mark Griffin.

This is a reasonably well paced police procedural although I felt it was a transitional book with a large part looking backwards whilst at the same time setting up future books in the story. At times the main storyline of When Silence Kills became slightly swamped.

Overall this was a satisfying read and hopefully book number 4 will be published soon
