I was looking forward to reading this to see whether the humour that Sara Cox is known for comes through in her writing and I wasn’t disappointed.

The story follows a group of locals who all enrol onto a pottery course at their community centre and who all have their own secrets and issues that are usually kept behind closed doors. But as the story progresses we find out about these things, some maybe a little more obvious to the reader than others, but that didn’t mean I enjoyed the book any less.

This reminded me a little of the two incredible recent books by Clare Pooley, where a group of strangers end up coming together in a heartwarming story that has plenty of ups and downs and the odd twist here and there to keep the reader interested.

Sara writes this story well, with plenty of laughs along the way mixed in with some sad moments that help make her characters believable. Her expertise in pottery throwing is obvious as she describes all the aspects with great knowledge helping to bring this eclectic group of neighbours together in a wonderful, feel-good book.

I love how stories like this one make you take a moment to look at the community around you and wonder about what is going on behind the scenes in the lives of people you come across regularly. The mum on the school run who looks totally put together, the couple you see walking along who look happily in love… The inventors estate is full of people with their own stories and it was lovely to read his joining pottery opened up many of them to getting support from their neighbours. From Becky and Sasha to Sheila and Jameela. I really enjoyed seeing relationships and friendships develop and thrive. A wholesome, easy to read and interesting story.

What a charming book! I adore Pottery Throw Down and Sara Cox has clearly channelled everything she learned about pottery during her stint as a presenter into this book,

It’s a story of friendship and finding yourself, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s packed with really well-drawn characters - both male and female - and despite tackling some difficult subjects, including domestic abuse and infertility, it never becomes heavy or overwrought.

I raced through this book and found the relationships between the characters heartwarming and believable. If you’re after an easy read with heart then this is the book for you!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Residents of Investors estate get to know each other at "Go Potty", a clay workshop at the community centre

managed by Becky. The participants have to deal with issues including

domestic violence. infertility and infidelity but gain strength to muddle through and enhance their lives.

This is a charming, funny, and uplifting story. The therapeutic value of clay cannot be underestimated,

I enjoyed this book so much.

An enjoyable, likeable story very much written with Sara’s warmth and wit- and a smattering of knowledge she’s picked up from the Pottery Throw Down. A believable, affable bunch of characters all navigating the ups and downs of life, brought together through the creativity and novelty of a local pottery class. Not an Earth-shattering exciting read, but gentle, warm and witty.

Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is a very quick, bright and breezy read Abbott friendship and pottery. A sweet, feel good story with a lot of wit and tons of heart.

I was really looking forward to this book, as the premise hooked me easily. Unfortunately, that's where it stops.

I very much hope that the early copy I was sent has several more rounds of edits still to come, because I suspect that somewhere under the endless exposition, badly constructed sentences/paragraphs, and non-stop 'telling' there may be a good story. I'm sad to say that this is one of the very, very few books I won't be finishing, and is a classic example of how publishers will sign any celebrity regardless of writing ability.

I have ticked the 'will I adapt it for teaching' box, but not for a good reason - I would use passages as examples of 'How could we rewrite this to 'show not tell' or 'What changes would you make as an editor?'
I'm not only disappointed by the book in general ut also extremely disheartened to see this coming from a respected publisher - it says the publisher doesn't care much about good writing, or editing.

This is a very easy read ,perfect for a holiday. It’s a fairly predictable formula ,about a group of women all facing different issues, who enrol in a pottery course and have their lives changed as a result. It deals with some difficult themes in a very sympathetic way, but the tone is warm and humorous and the writer’s voice comes through well.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in return for an honest review which reflects my own opinion.

A feel good novel following members of a local estate who come together for pottery classes.
I loved all the characters, who all had their own stories to tell, there were moments of laughter and sadness but above all was a heartwarming tale.
Very well written

Really enjoyed this story and the different sub plots that ran through it. It was all possible and believable, and brought the right mix of emotions.

Thoroughly enjoyed this easy read. Found the characters to be funny, likeable and each of their stories were perfectly interwoven. I loved that a community centre pottery class could bring so many different people together from different walks of life. Brilliant debut.

This was an enjoyable read and I was invested in the characters and their stories. A commendable effort by Sara Cox whose new book shows she has already proved her love of literature and reading. A great book to read on holiday.

Sara Cox puts over really well how people live a public life but with so much more hidden
Despite its many funny lines it's a serious, complex story centering on a few couples who seemingly have perfect lives yet who are practitioners of the art of hiding a worrying dread.
Sacha, a pottery teacher stirs rings up and the lives of his students are all changed. From Becky to Sheila there's a lot happening.
I thoroughly enjoyed it

I so wanted to like this book, unfortunately it just wasn’t for me. It follows the lives of four women living on the same estate and I just couldn’t connect with any of them. It’s a shame, but you can’t please everyone. I’m sure plenty of other folks will enjoy it. Thank you #netgalley

An interesting debut that I felt was quite bitty, it sometimes felt like I was reading completely different stories as opposed to one overall story. I still enjoyed it and would be interested to see what else the author produces.

It was okay, a lot of characters where in this novel and their lives including all of the people in their life so it takes some time to get used to especially if you are trying to take in the entire novel which is extra time consuming when you just want to simply read a novel. However it has an interesting plot and the idea of this friendship building novel is interesting.

A chick lit book about 4 women on a housing estate who come together to join a pottery class. Each has relationship issues, whether through a lack of trust, fear, frustration or boredom and, through their pottery classes, each woman comes out the other side feeling stronger. A good holiday read.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read Sara Cox' book "Thrown".

I was so thrilled to be able to read this and really wanted to love it as much as I enjoy listening to Sara on the radio, however, I found the book extremely slow to get into, and I didn't warm to the characters particularly.. I did finish the book, and enjoyed discovering that I had correctly guessed the secret that was Martin was hiding. A pleasant book that I possibly would have enjoyed more, had I not had higher expectations.
