This was such a fun roller coaster ride! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and couldn’t wait to see what happens! The plot twists were so good! Definitely gave off some Darling Rose Gold vibes.

Jodie Madison is ready for a fresh start and buys a home within the gates of Kensington Grove. She begins to take a shine to her fourteen year old neighbor Lacey. Lacey is terminally ill and confined to a wheelchair. Her mother Norah is very controlling and overprotective of her daughter. She isolates Lacey from everyone and is suspicious of Jodie and her daughter’s friendship. Even the internet is off limits.

When a resident ends up dead, Jodie decides it’s time to take action, and save Lacey from her mother. Everyone has secrets in the Grove, and the place that was billed as the “safest community” suddenly becomes very dangerous.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Girl Beyond The Gate is a 4.5 Star 🌟 book.

Welcome to Kensington Grove, the safest place to call home.... or so it seems.

Jodie Madison moves into the gated community of Kensington Grove for that specific reason that the homes are inside a gated community so she will feel protected, but is it the outside she needs protecting from or has she locked herself inside with the biggest danger of all.

Oh I loved this book it was utterly dangerously unputdownable and beyond addictive it should come with a warning ⚠️

It was just brilliant from the characters to the story to the setting it was just edge of your seat fantastic, I don't want to give to much away as not too spoil it for other readers but as I was reading this I was trying to sole the mystery myself as what was going on I found myself really getting into it was it this was it that I was going back and forth, this book has plenty of twists and turns right up until the very last word on the page, I really did find this book addictive I didn't want to put it down because I just wanted to know what was going on who's got the biggest secret my mind was blown.

The ending- blew my mind!

I would highly recommend this book its beyond the gate brilliant 👏

A phenomenal debut novel.
The Girl Beyond the Gate
By Becca Day

This was a dark and twisted book that I couldn't stop reading!
Gritty and compulsive, this thought-provoking thriller contains several interesting twist.
I never saw coming.
The characters you honestly have no idea which way this story is turning.
And that made it so much fun to me.
The characters.... Holy shit! Like Becca Day outdid herself here with these intriguing, interesting people.
I was totally immersed after the very first chapter. And this story never let up.
Y'all don't miss this amazing novel.

Embla Books,

This was a great read! Loved Jodie and her slow somewhat reluctant ingratiation into the shady world of a gated community. The dual narrative works really well and i was kept guessing up until the very final twist! The characters were compelling and the pace was very quick, I devoured it in a day. A very intriguing debut.

Jodie is running from a tragic past. She moves into a rental on a gated community, where secrets and lies abound. Jodie’s plan is to keep to herself, no interaction with other residents and no telling of her secrets.

Jodie’s next door neighbour is Norah, who has a daughter, Lacey, who has Cystic Fibrosis and is in a wheelchair. Jodie and Lacey become close and Jodie is convinced that Norah also has secrets and that Lacey is suffering at the hands of her mother, so plans to get to the bottom of all the suspicions and intrigue using her journalistic skills.

The plot for this story is totally absorbing. I have recently watched a tv series set along the same path and was convinced I had it all sussed out, but how wrong was I? A captivating read, and although the ending was a little rushed and frantic it has a real conclusion. Yes, there are some unbelievable scenarios but it all adds to the suspense of the book and the escapism of the storyline.

I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend.

Thank you NetGalley.

3.5 stars

I've read enough of this type of book to know that you don't trust anyone.
Knowing that, just heightens the story,as you're looking for double meanings in everything.
The countdown to the murder worked really well in this book, building up the tension as you got to know the characters more and more.
A few twists along the way that fitted perfectly.
An enjoyable read.

A fascinating thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page. This book has an electric plot and captivating characters. Add in a sinister setting and you have a perfect thriller!

I love creepy neighborhoods filled with suspicious residents, so I had high expectations for The Girl Beyond the Gate. Unfortunately, I struggled with it right from the start. I couldn't find any reason to root for or to be interested in the two main narrators. I kept reading, hoping it would get better, but it really didn't.

I'm treading carefully so as to not spoil anything, but the plot seemed incredibly predictable to the point where I likely would have stopped reading before reaching the twist. And when I did hit the surprise, the execution was underwhelming.

I think there was a lot of potential here, but it didn't come together in a way that felt fresh or suspenseful.

Welcome to Kensington Grove! Jodie has just moved in. She is shy and anxious and perhaps running from something. She thinks Kensington is an ideal place as it is a gated community and very exclusive. Pretty early on she finds that the neighbors expect participation in weekly meetings and the gossip is rampant. Jodie tries to hide in her house as much as she can and inadvertently befriends her neighbors chronically ill child Lacey. What is wrong with Lacey? Is her mother really keeping her safe? What are the secrets of Kensington Grove and did Jodie make the right choice to move in?

Very twisty, definitely didn't see the ending coming. I enjoyed this quick read and you will too. I think the characters could have. been drawn out more as they were interesting to me I think more of Jodie's past life could have been foreshadowed and explained. If you like twisty themes, creepy neighborhoods, British community and secret pasts then #TheGirlBeyondTheGate is for you! #NetGalley #EmblaBooks

Thanks to Netgalley and Embla Books for this ARC
The story follows Jodie who has moved into a gated community and wants to very much keep to herself. The reasons for this aren’t clear but it is obvious that she is running away from something and using alcohol to block whatever it is out. . She befriends Lacey the girl next door who is poorly and there has been lots of fundraising to get her medical support and experiences. Lacey’s mother Norah however tries to discourage the friendship and is very suspicious of Jodie’s motives.
I was hooked from the first page and found that I was second guessing what was going to happen next. All the characters and the community itself were described well., with each one being believable. I did find myself suspicious of Norah very early on and it was obvious that she also had something hide.. It flowed well but the ending felt a bit rushed, although there were no lose ends which I liked.

I’d like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I went to add this book to my Goodreads account but I couldn’t find it on there anywhere. I couldn’t put this book down and finished it in one sitting. When Jodie moves to a gated community to leave her past life behind, she becomes suspicious of her neighbour and sick daughter. Is she hiding something as well, and at what cost is each women willing to protect their secrets?

Wow.
Jodie Madison can't think of a better place for a fresh start than the exclusive, gated community of The Grove. But from the moment she passes through the wrought iron gates, she starts to suspect she's made a mistake. Despite her vow to keep apart from the other residents, Jodie can't help but feel drawn to her unnerving neighbour Norah Williams and terminally ill daughter, Lacey. Jodie knows she should stay away, but something draws her in. When a murder shocks The Grove, Jodie vows to do everything in her power to save Lacey from her mother. But as more secrets emerge from Norah's shadowy past, Jodie is faced with the unthinkable - Norah's not so different to herself, and neither woman is innocent.
Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for giving me an advance copy.
