A wonderful book - completely dedicated to Onigiri! We make a lot of onigiri in our household, and still learned a great deal - differences in cooking rice, and the overall different types. We have made many more, and will continue to make these as a staple in our household. I definitely recommend this book, for both beginner and seasoned chefs alike.

This is a great introductory book on the art of Onigiri or the absolutely delightful rice balls from Japan. There are complicated onigiri and simple onigiri and the recipes found within this cookbook are bound to get any rice lover in the kitchen to cook. Definitely a great inclusion for any Teen collection, especially if there is an avid anime/manga fanbase. This book is just too cute. Make sure you check it out!

This is a whole cookbook dedicated to onigiri! I started reading it yesterday which was lucky because 6/18 is onigiri day in Japan! I had no idea. This cookbook is fully illustrated and has photographs of the final dishes.

The cookbook starts with the origins of onigiri, how to make rice, how to wrap it and some antecedents from the chefs.

I have totally been making rice incorrectly my whole life. I had no clue it was a 10 step process. I'll let you know how my next batch of rice turns out following the directions from this cookbook.

After the meat (pun intended) of the history of onigiri, there are there sections with full recipes: fish, veggie and meat onigiri. Each section has 5+ different recipes to try.

I have never made onigiri before, but now it's on the menu! Looking forward to testing out the prawns and avocado recipe this week.

This is a super approachable method for crafting all things onigiri. One part cookbook, one part history tidbits, it's easy to read and get some great recipes. I tried the mackerel miso filling and it was fantastic.
I definitely recommend Onigiri as a coffee table book or one for the kitchen cookbook shelf.

I like parts of this book - the recipes and information are all great and helpful in learning how to make Onigiri, the small bits of history are interesting. I do not like the simplistic cover, which looks more like a book for children, and some of the illustrations look very elementary, which does not lend the proper amount of importance to the food and recipes. This is a great topic for a book, but I think the packaging lets it down,

Who can resist this cute cover! Not me, and the inside didn’t disappoint either. This book is full of accessable recipes and with lots of variations and ideas. From simple to more complicated, each recipe is clear and easy to follow.
I see many delicious rice balls in my future!

Onigiri is a delightful and delectable feast for the eyes as this book guides you through wonderful recipes. The book takes time to talk about the history of the dish and serves up several recipes for incredible onigiri. The book has 4 major categories of Fish, Veggies, Meat, and the Soup, Snacks, and Pickled Foods section. This makes it easier to go the section that appeals most to you. The book is very organized and easy for the reader to access the desired recipes. The book also gives you an opportunity to learn more about how Gili Gili (the onigiri shop the writers own in France adds a nice personal touch. Great instructions, reader friendly book structure, and a personal touch lends me to give Onigiri a 4 star rating. Thanks to NetGalley and Viz Media for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

A cookbook truly focused on one type of food - the humble onigiri. A common food in Japan to have on the go, on picnics or as a quick snack, this book hones in on both common ingredients and combinations as well as ones more suited for fusion experiments. A good buy for someone who likes Japanese food and culture, or for those who want to try more interesting combinations that you can't find at the local Japanese market. The information and techniques for how to make the onigiri is also welcome - after a certain point, the recipe is pretty similar with only the fillings being different.

I was a little hesitant about getting a cookbook ARC (mostly because I read them on my phone and I wasn't sure if the formatting would be big enough). I wasn't disappointed though!

Onigiri is a fun and information rice ball cookbook. It starts out with some backstory that is easy to digest and then moves into the "how to" parts. How to cook your rice, how to form your rice, etc.

Then it moves into some fun and interesting recipes. My favorite ones that I would like to try are the Mackerel with Miso, Salmon, Tofu Curry, and the Garlic Pork. I am really excited for the release date and I am looking to purchase a copy both for my library and for myself! We are even looking at using some of the techniques in our Anime club we have for the teens! One of the meetings we are doing "how to make onigiri"!

10/10 would recommend. The information makes it look like a fun and easy to incorporate cookbook!

Fun, friendly little cookbook featuring one of my favorite snacks, onigiri! Japanese rice balls stuffed with filling and wrapped in seaweed, onigiri are great on the go, but cooking them is a bit more involved. Onigiri has straightforward instructions with helpful illustrations, though some directions are a bit vague and the guidance can skip important steps (like letting the rice cool before shaping the onigiri). Great for lovers of Japanese food, meal prepping, and snack fans.

Lovely and unassuming book, all about one of my favourite snacks to ever grace this earth - Onigiri!

Very simple and clear instructions without being overly simplistic and insulting (as some cookbooks can be), with a good variety of content.

Pictures are one of the most important aspects of a cookbook for me and Onigiri excells at such.

Onigiri is a good cookbook for what appears to be a really simple food item. I think some words were missing/got left out in several instances, but I was reviewing an eARC so I hope those will be fixed in the published version. Onigiri by itself is a simple enough concept, but this book provides insight into how you can make it to their specifications, use elevated ingredients, but also encourages using local ingredients. Part of me feels doubtful if onigiri can truly be fossilized (as noted in the history section), but this is a cookbook, so I don't want to obsess over that point. The illustrations are cute and the photos in this book definitely made me hungry. I'm not sure this belongs on my own bookshelf, but this would be a great gift to fans of Japanese cuisine or people who are just starting to cook for themselves. (I received a free eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.)

Lots of recipes that do not interest me but the are easy adaptable to something I would eat. My adaption turned out well

Onigiri is amazing! It is time that cookbooks are published to honor this savory treat. Watanbe and Trifot offer the best explanation in preparing sushi rice that I have read. Most of the recipes included a picture, which is huge thing for me; but from time to time a recipe included a drawing of the ingredients which took away from the flow’s consistency. They showcased other essential Japanese dishes such as preparing miso which complements any Japanese dish.

***Many thanks to #Netgalley for the free digital ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.***

Cute simple cookbook with some lovely drawings. Narrow in scope, but to be expected. Especially appreciated the history bits at the beginning.
