"You won't believe in him until you need him"

The story of Archibald Mountbank is fast-paced and almost over before it begins. The elderly man claims to have the potential to make anyone 1% better at their chosen area of interest - whether it's a tangible change like height, or an increase in the capacity to love. There are sceptics and there are believers, with his waitlist over a year long and rumours of his impending retirement. "The limitless potential in Mountbank's hands was suddenly limited. It created a small panic."

The quick tale follows a journalist and skeptic who sits in on the sessions to 'get to the bottom of things', only to realise he needs Mountbank's supposed powers. The book has Mary Poppins vibes, showing the reader that even the greatest skeptic is willing to part with their beliefs when desperate. It's a great look into what humans are willing to do when they're desperate and where they draw the line. A real thought-provoking experience.

Thank you to NetGalley for the Arc.

Unfortunately this didn't work out too well for me. It just wasn't my kind of story I could relate to. It was worth a shot. I'm not exactly sure how to rate it and review it. Odd and different, which I normally like, but not so much with this one.
There wasn't anything I could connect with. A couple of interesting moments but not enough to carry through. I could see some people enjoying this though.
