The Perfect Home by Kevin Lynch is a pretty standard domestic thriller. The story revolves around June, who lives in an idyllic suburban home with her two college-age kids. Everything seems perfect. But strange things start happening. The criminal across the street is dating her daughter. Her son is keeping secrets. And her ex-husband is showing up everywhere. Then, there's a murder. Can she figure out what is going on?

Here is a gripping excerpt from the Prologue:

"He didn't see the first blow coming, just heard a sudden swooshing sound fill the air, then a fizzing bolt of pain that flashed from his head to course through his body. His knees buckled, and he sank slowly to the floor. He reached out for something to hold and felt the softness of the long sofa where he had spent so many happy years brush against his fingertips before he slid completely to the floor."

Overall, The Perfect Home is a domestic thriller that does everything it's supposed to. One highlight of this book is the protagonist. I like that she isn't afraid to stand up for herself, even when other characters think she's foolish or crazy. Also, this had a decent story. I couldn't think of any negatives, but ultimately it didn't have that spark that would make it a 5-star story. Overall this book was slow and too predictable for me. I didn't care much for the characters, especially June's children. I thought they treated her horribly. The ending was a bit better but still the entire plot was too easily figured out.

I was given an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and am providing my honest review.
June lives in a quiet, well-maintained neighborhood with her two college aged children. When the new guy next door moves in with his vicious dogs and loud cars the neighbor’s frown at the sight. After contacting the landlord regarding the disarray, June notices weird activity happening around her home and her elderly neighbor is attacked. Is this coincidence or does someone have something planned for June and her pleasantly quiet neighborhood?
The Perfect Home written by Kevin Lynch is well written moving from point A to point B very nicely. There are many characters introduced right off the bat. However, Lynch only gives you a little taste of each one, just enough to understand who is who and how they play a role in the story. I am a person who judges a book by its cover, and I love how eerie this cover looks. The cover is partially what reeled me in to read this book.
I personally had not guessed whodunit until closer to the end of the story. Lynch did a great job making the story flow from scene to scene without giving away too many clues. I would recommend this blook to anyone who enjoys a quick whodunit. I will definitely add Kevin Lynch to my to-be-read pile. Thank you for this opportunity.

I literally couldn’t put this book down from the moment I picked it up. Everything was perfect. Until her ex husband status showing up en expected way more than normal. Her daughter starts spending more time than she should with the. Creepy neighbor she is baby sitting for. Things are taking a turn for the worst. And everyone is turning on her. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Eek. I liked the premise but it was so slow to start and really dull in places. The main character was not at all compelling. One bit was about her making a vegetable curry with the leftover vegetables....I read to escape real life! I didn't really feel I connected with the author's intentions and so while elements were interesting, it mostly wasn't.

if something seems too good to be true, you know it probably is? Uh, yeah....and in this case, the perfect home, perfect neighborhood, has been changed. June has someone who wants her GONE. Who is it/???

This book started off with a bang. I was drawn in right away but then felt a little bit drawn out. It didn't help that I developed a dislike for the main characters. The writing was okay but the plot didn't really do it for me. I think I needed a little more suspense. Some parts felt very predictable. Other parts felt too drawn out, like the main character's relationship with her ex-husband. The relationships with the main characters children and neighbors were also extremely strange to me. Especially towards the middle/end of the book the conversations felt more and more shallow. I was reading about the things happening but I wasn't feeling the feelings of the main character. Some good parts was the idea of this book, we all live next to people that we may have our own judgements to their character about, but we really don't know all about them. The actual crime and the figuring out whodoneit was also really well done. I could have done without all the other random conversations. Overall very mixed feelings here, but very appreciative to Net Galley and the publishers for an ARC of this book for an honest review.

Thrillers are one of my favourite genres and I was intrigued to read this book. Unfortunately it was not my cup of tea. I found it a bit predictable and didn't really like the characters.

I didn't quite enjoy this book. It was boring, so predictable with unlikeable characters. The story had no depth to it, no actual twists and it was such an annoying slow burn.

A brilliant, well-written thriller that keeps you turning the pages until the shocking conclusion. I loved this book and am glad to have discovered Kevin Lynch!

I was lucky to receive an advance copy of The Perfect Home from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. I thought this was a well written psychological thriller that has lots of twists and turns and keeps you guessing all the way through out! Very enjoyable read that I absolutely recommend.

It's a story that is very simply written about a mother, her ex-husband, and their 2 children. The story is told from the mother's point of view. They (the mother and 2 adult children) have a new neighbor who moved in two doors down who is a nuisance. The storyline heavily relies on this dynamic. But, in the last 5-10% of the book the story comes to an abrupt close. We do find out who killed the neighbor, why the other neighbor was such a nuisance etc. There were a few loose ends that need closure in my opinion. I don't want to give too much away.

If you're intrigued by this book read it. But, I'm not going to jump up and down to recommend it either.

The perfect house where there’s absolutely nothing perfect in this house. From a main character, June , that is more of a doormat person to her ex husband, entitled at all her life even if he left, to her children that while actually behave more or less as most of today’s young adults, add her new neighbour of hell with all his antics and drama.
It was interesting to see si many scenes and how Jane will feel and react but I personally couldn’t feel anything for her.
As for the story overall, there’s not much I can say. It’s gripping in parts but also felt flat in others for me.

The Perfect Home is a psychological thriller that follows June, a divorced working (outside the home too) mother of two teenagers., who lives a perfectly pleasant life in a lovely house with a beautiful garden she has created with her own two hands. Her house is on a nice street in a quiet, friendly neighborhood, where the neighbors play well with others, and life is good. Until a Steve Murray moves in next door.

Murray who is constantly tinkering with numerous car corpses parked in front of his and June's houses to the beat of obnoxious, loud music day and night, immediately ruffles the feathers of the other neighbors, including June. The feuding starts immediately, and before long, the neighborhood has a murder to deal with. June, tired and feeling besieged, has had enough and considers moving out, As if Steve Murray, the new neighbour from hell, wasn't annoying enough with his cars and music from hell,, he also begins asking June's daughter to "babysit" his two daughters; but for June's daughter, the babysitting soon turns into Steve-bedding. June's ex-husband Nick, who left her for her best friend, begins showing up uninvited, and because he has found a new job in the neighborhood, as a gardener, asks for–and gets–keys to June's house, so he can, you know, just get in and store his tools...and get a cuppa, regardless of the fact that it is no longer his home. Of course June is seen as the bad guy if she refuses him a spare key, but having Nick in her home and sanctuary is the last thing she wants. Nick believes June is being very unfair by not seeing that he is of course entitled to walk in and out of the house where his family, whom he left for another woman, lives. Even her children think she is being unfair to "poor dad" and "poor Steve." June's twenty year old know-it-all daughter, says Steve is just trying to make a living and to give him a break. Her son, Sam, bounces between smoking pot with the neighborhood (not-so-loud) boys of the same and trying to write his assignments for uni.

The author does a good job in portraying June's feelings and fear in many of the situations, but I had a hard time with her doormat attitude. I cannot stand protagonists who let others walk all over them.

I read the book in almost one sitting, but still there were a few things that didn't work for me. I like books written in the first person, but I was not able to connect or emphatize with June. She was too meek and could have been a bit of a "bigger" character.. I also found it a little difficult to understand the kids' behavior. It just didn't make any sense to me.

Still, the book was interesting and had quite a few unexpected plot twists. I would definitely read another book by this author. I would like to thank Netgalley kindly for giving me the opportunity to enjoy so many wonderful books in exchange for honest reviews.

I enjoyed reading this book it was fast paced and kept you guessing throughout. The characters were good, the plot was great and the style of writing was perfect. The first book I have read by this author and I’ll be keeping my eye out for more in the future.

June lives in an idyllic neighbourhood with her two college age children. Perfect homes, gardens and neighbours. Until Steve a new neighbour moves in down the street. He's rough, criminal and loud and definitely a neighbour from hell and he's taken an interest in June's daughter Cathy.
Her son Sam spends his days smoking weed in a house down the street and her cheating ex husband seems to be everywhere she looks. When someone she knows is murdered and strange things start happening to her she begins to realise that everything's connected. Is she going to be next?

The premise of this was so intriguing but it was not executed well. None of the characters were likeable June's children and ex husband were horrible in the way the interacted with her. June was a boring character every chapter filled with the same things of her gardening or heating up food. June was also very judgemental considering she works in social work not believing that people should get a second chance. The twists and turns weren't that shocking and I could've put this down several times but I like to read a book to the end.

I felt the ending got wrapped up too nicely and that more could've been done to make it more shocking.

Overall this was a disappointing read for me which is a shame as I feel with a few changes it could've been really good.

Really enjoyed this book about a once quiet cul de sac where a new neighbour reeks havoc with loud music, threatening dogs and basically making the road on the street his unofficial garage where he works as a mechanic on cars and blocks the path and road. Love the style of writing and it felt very authentic in how the family dynamic was written. Lots of bad things happening but for June, she has no clue who is responsible for what and her family are no help to her. Especially her terrible & selfish ex-husband. He is vile, written like a man with no backbone. a coward. I felt her frustration in handling the messes all around her.
Some good twists, a well written, well paced read.

This book sounded like a winner. Unfortunately it was an incredibly slow and boring read. I didn't connect with any of the characters, and really struggled to finish it

The Perfect Home is a suspenseful read about June Sweeney who lives a nice, quiet life tucked away in her cul-de-sac with her two college age children, Sam and Cathy. When a new neighbour pulls up one evening, June is concerned - he doesn't seem like the polite, quiet people she's neighbours with. And he seems to have turned his eyes toward her daughter. June gets angry when the cul-de-sac is clogged up with cars that are being worked on at his house and when her and her other neighbours confront him, things turn for the worse! When one of her neighbours is murdered in cold blood, June starts to panic - is she next?!
This wasn't as gripping as I had hoped it would be and I found non of the characters particularly likeable. Hunes children were very disrespectful towards June and her ex husband was disgraceful! Not really a great read for me unfortunately, but there are some good little twists.
