I will admit that I am not really a fan of slow burn thrillers. I do enjoy being surprised near the end with a twist. I love fast paced thrillers that keep me on the edge of my seat, guessing. This book moved too slowly for me. I didn't love the characters. Her kids bother me. June's ex husband keeps showing up around her house. This one was tough for me. I didn't like it.

I was also confused by a lot of the speech/phrases. It reads as if it's not American but also not like U.K. books I have read. I wouldn't read any other books by this author. Your experience may be different than mine.

Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator books for the ARC!

I tried to like this book.. I really did. It was just so bland, and I unfortunately couldn’t get into it. I DNF’d it at about 10% through.

It started off as a slow burn, but pace soon picked up & the race was on to find out who was terrorising June. The twist was a little predictable for me & I'm so glad June gave him a chance to prove that he was worthy of her daughter's love. I think the characters deserved a little more development, as to me they all felt a little one dimensional.

The main character is definitely not June Cleaver but June Sweeney. Her attributes were few other than having a beautiful flower garden in her backyard. Her neighborhood appears normal and quiet. Her simple lifestyle includes heartache with a cheating husband …that is moving in with her best friend down the road. To add to her woe she has two arrogant, spoiled college-age children that always manage to take dad's side.
This was a satisfying read in many ways. A domestic thriller that was a quick read, a strong contender for an introduction to the genre.
The characters weren't all that endearing though, and I did have frustrations against the main character June and her children. Or more so, their treatment of her. But when I see characters who are treated like doormats, I wonder if that's the author's intention? June is just a content woman trying to enjoy her life in her neighborhood, like most of us! Surely we can identify that? Keep quiet for an easy life?
The ending was a solid one and has made me interested to read more from the author.

I am a lover of all thrillers, so I was excited to read this one. I think its a great starter thriller for individuals wanting to try out the genre.

However, i wanted to like this book just from reading the description, but it just wasn't there for me. I thought there would be more twists and turns, but it seemed to just drag out more than necessary. I didn't find the plot to be predictable, it just seemed to take to long to get to the end and reveal the who the real culprit was. I will admit, I didn't see the ending coming which was nice, and once it explained why the person did what they did to June, the main character, it made sense and really made you realize that you can't trust anyone!

I do feel like it was overly detailed on things that weren't pertinent to the storyline, and could have used more detail on the thriller parts of the book.

I was not a huge fan of June, but I loved the rebelliousness of her daughter, and loved how June handled the situation with her daughter and new, strange neighbor Steve. I like how she was motherly, and caring, yet hands off because she realized she was a grown adult and could live her life and make her own choices. The dynamic within the family was good, and realistic.

This book was a struggle at the start, as the main character wasn’t particularly likable, but she eventually few on me a little. The plot was original, but somewhat predictable. For a main character who was a social worker, the main character was extremely judgmental and prejudicial. Despite that, this was still an entertaining read.

I liked this storyline as a different change of pace. The setting was not typical of what I read and the motive was very unique. I feel it was a great length of a book and I didn’t lose interest while reading. I like that there was a murder subtle thrown it but also not the main part of the story. The characters were different than most psychological thrillers I’ve read. I overall enjoyed this book very much.

Good story but I feel like it lacked a little more suspense.

There were too many explanations. It detailed everything. However, it took him a page or two talking about trivial things, which he could well have ignored.

Even so, the end with everything that happened to her and how they explained the events was a bit chilling. It makes you think you can't trust anyone.

3,5/5.
The perfect Home is a thriller by Kevin Lynch and if you'd ask me this is the perfect introduction to the thriller genre. It's easy to read, the mystery is intriguing and you follow the characters as they discover what's happening. If you are not new to the genre this book could be a little bit predictable and therefore boring. I saw some of the twists coming thats why I can only give it a 3 star rating. If you are looking for a quick, easy and entertaining read this is the one.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an arc of this book. All opinions are my own

As I read this book I was convinced I had either read it before or seen it on TV. It is not a particularly original story and was very predictable. Not that well executed either.. I did get to the end so will give it 2 stars for that.

The main character is definitely not June Cleaver but June Sweeney. Her attributes were few other than having a beautiful flower garden in her backyard. Her neighborhood appears normal and quiet. Her simple lifestyle has heartache beyond with a cheating husband that is moving in with her best friend down the road. To add to her woe she has two arrogant, spoiled college age children that always manage to take dad's side.

When a new neighbor, Steve, moves in, she fills her time snooping and passing judgement on him. Either he is too loud and/or shady for this neighborhood. It soon becomes a snowball effect from all especially when June's daughter, Cathy, becomes involved with him. When a neighbor is brutally murdered, she fears for her own safety.

Strange events begin to occur in her home; a trash can is set ablaze, a snake appears in the toilet, and even concrete is found in her water line. With all the evidence, it spells trouble for her life. With her bets placed on Steve, she becomes even more critical and outspoken in her judgement.
It is not always as it seems. This is a fast read, even though the title and the cover on the book are a perfect alignment for me...it was lacking depth and could be less predictable.
Thank you NetGalley for this title in exchange for my honest review.

This book would be great for someone who I just starting out with reading thrillers and wanted to get their feet wet. However I found this book utterly predictable and the characters were as flat as a board. I couldn’t sympathize with the main character and the children (college aged adults) were terrible. Honestly, they were the worst and I was basically rooting for team No One. I was expecting more twists and turns and nothing happened. Pass.

Is Everything As It Seems…?
Jane’s seemingly perfect existence in her seemingly perfect street is about to come to abrupt halt as a catalogue of events is set to change her life. Is everything as it seems? When someone close to her is murdered Jane realises that she may be in danger herself. Is her home so perfect after all? A swiftly reading tale with characters that are all, in the main and perhaps intentionally so, unlikeable and, although lacking real menace, a reasonable plotline.

This is the first book I have read by author Kevin Lynch. This was an okay mystery book. It kept my attention even when at a certain point it got a little predictable. Overall it was well written and I did like the ominous vibe of the book. I would definitely try another book from this author.

I desperately wanted to like this book. I was in need of a grabbing thriller with twists and turns that meant I couldn’t put the book down and this was exactly the opposite.

June was quite dull. I understood her issues with her family and her ex-husband and the fact that she was being gaslit by everyone in her life, but I didn’t understand her at all. She had very little character, that didn’t revolve around her own distaste at her life. The two children were almost unbearable. The decisions they made, the way they treated their mum and the way they acted were so unlike any teenager I have ever known that I really struggled to read the parts of the story that were centered around them.

I wish there was something more to this story. It could’ve been excellent, but the obvious conclusion it came too was not enough to keep me gripped and I had to force myself through to finish it. I almost wish we could’ve seen more details, it all felt very much like it was being told and not shown.

Overall, I enjoyed this. I felt like it was very predictable ending, however I loved the character development and there were a few twists that caught me by surprise!

Thank you to #netgalley and #inkubatorbooks for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

June is a Type A single mom, living in a respectable estate in Ireland, raising her two college aged children after a divorce brought on upon hearing that her husband had been sleeping with her best friend for years. A mechanic, Steve, moves in down the block and everything begins to crumble from there. How are all of these odd things happening in a once safe neighborhood? What is the reason, and who might be the cause, for all of this mayhem?

I'm sorry but, at least for me, the author didn't do a good enough job of creating sympathy in me towards the MC before her life begins to fall apart. I had to struggle through this one and, had it not been a NetGalley ARC, I definitely wouldn't have finished it. 2.5/5 stars.

I did not enjoy this book. The characters were flat, and drove me crazy. I know they made stupid decisions to drive “the story” forward, but it didn’t endear them to me. At times I wanted to scream over the obtuseness of the characters. I felt it was a slow read, and I just couldn’t connect. I didn’t feel that it was twisting or innovative, it felt very run of the mill. Not cute enough to be a cozy, and not hard enough to be called a thriller. And to say I hated the ending is an understatement, the resolution with Cathy and Steve made me angrier than all the other poor decisions combined. I’m not saying I wouldn’t give this author another chance, the writing style and voice were fine. It was the story content I couldn’t connect to.

This one was a bit flat for me. It wast super thrilling and there were a lot of details surrounding June’s food, garden, and tea. It was very obvious very early on what was happening. Overall an ok read!
