I really enjoyed A Golden Cornish Summer by Phillipa Ashley. It was a great book to escape into for awhile wishing I was sat on a Cornish beach watching the world go by. Read in a day I could not put this book down. A great heartwarming book that you will love.

I love Philippa Ashley's books and this was another lovely read. The Cornish setting is just perfect for her books and as normal the storyline and characters are so heartwarming that you just fly through the book.
Perfect read for the Summer!

Wow what can I say about this book! I read this in the warm sunshine while sitting in my egg chair in the garden.

I adored A Golden Cornish Summer. I felt like I was on a nice holiday in Cornwall. The location was stunning and perfectly captured in the pages.
What I really enjoyed about this book was the historical, family drama linked to treasure. Emma and Luke had another to over come but add that into the mix and it made for an exciting read.
I enjoyed reading about the history between Emma and Luke and seeing how their relationship develops over the course of the story.

Another amazing story by @phillipa.ashleyauthor

4.5 stars

A delightful cleanish tale of school romance that goes terribly wrong. Some awful parents in the past and some gossipy villagers in the present. It must be 25 years since I heard tourists refered to as emmets.

Emma's an illustrator and Luke runs a Dive school. His father found the treasure that Emma's father obsessed over. There's good descriptions of the scenery. I'm not sure I'm intrigued enough to read the previous books but as this is a new author to me, I might check out those books set on the Isles of Scilly.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Living in Cornwall I found this book very readable. I do wish authord would give places their actual name rather than a near miss such as Falford, presumably Helford. However it was a delightful story, as Philippa Ashley's always are.
Families split apart due to treasure. Romance split apart due to that same treasure, but somehow turning out for the best eventually.
Thank you for the chance to read and review this book which i enjoyed.

The story was set in new location of Silver bay. I Loved the fact that the issue of rubbish left on beaches was included in the story, it was great following the story of Emma and Luke.

I really hope we can revisit Silver Cove and see what has happed there in furture books suck a brilliant book.

Thank you for letting me review such a great book

15 years ago Emma left her beautiful home in Silver Cove after breaking up with Luke due to a feud between their families. On her first day back she run into Luke again and things do not go smoothly.

Are they able to put the past behind them and can they rediscover the love that they once shared?

I always love returning to Falford and seeing what everyone is up to.

It was good to be back in Cornwall for the summer, guided by the delightful writing of Phillipa Ashley.
I really enjoyed the main storyline between Luke and Emma as childhood sweethearts reconnecting with each other in their home town after falling out over something that damaged the lives of both families. Lots of humour in this book and I found myself smiling a lot while reading & it is an enjoyable read from start to finish. Alongside Emma & Luke’s story it was good to read about residents of neighbouring villages whom we have met before in other books - it was like getting a little snippet about the lives of old friends and being glad their lives were as happy as they were when we left them.
This book is a great summer read, perfect for the beach, by the pool or in the garden in the sunshine. Or for brightening up the inevitable damp and drizzly summer days

Emma and Luke were 1st loves. Emma's father was obsessed with finding a local hidden treasure, and one day Luke finds a book in Emmas attic that shows the location of the treasure and shows it to his father who then goes on to find and claim it. This destroys Emmas father and as a result Emma and Luke break up.

15 years later, Emma goes back for work, and she bumps into Luke. Feelings come flooding back, but she is worried that as he betrayed her once, he will betray her again.

A good story, i thought it was charming.

I loved this! I always enjoy Phillipa’s books, they are like a breath of fresh air and this latest offering was no exception. I loved following Emma and Luke’s story, and as always the descriptions of Cornwall were absolute perfection. Perfect summery escapism.

A Golden Cornish Summer is an enjoyable 'will they won't they' romance read.

The main characters Emma and Luke are former teenage sweethearts. Emma has just moved back to Cornwall after a long period away, and of course, it doesn't take long for their paths to cross. Conflicted by her feelings and trapped by the echoes of the past, can Emma overcome her struggles to stay in Cornwall for good this time?

The descriptions in this book are superb and the author's love for the Cornish coastline clearly seeps through the pages. From Emma's artwork to the vital work of the team clearing rubbish from the beaches, there is a real passion for Cornwall entwined with the story. It's a joy to read!

I was really looking forward to the buried treasure aspect of this book as I love a good mystery. However, I felt it was undervalued by other elements of the plot which was a real shame, as it brings a unique angle to the story. Despite that, the plot was enjoyable and this was a great summer read.

I should also point out that I love the fact that Phillipa Ashley's books are all set in the same universe, with familiar places and characters cropping up in each new book. It's like waving hello to an old friend each time you come across a familiar name!

Fun and light, A Golden Cornish Summer is another great read from author Phillipa Ashley.

Emma has returned to Silver Cove in Cornwall where she spent her formative years of her life. She has come to stay with friend Maxi to find inspiration for her illustrating work and to grieve for her father.

She did not expect it to be easy, but she was not expecting to find her first love, Luke still there, well established and well respected as well as living in the place she once called home.

Luke and Emma’s love ran much deeper than their families thought. However it was their families which perhaps caused much of their heartache. Buried treasure, affairs and still some bitter resentments are prevalent some years later. Perhaps it is just not Luke and Emma who have issues to resolve perhaps their families do as well.

Emma decides that once she has completed her work she will again leave, but while there she gets drawn far too much into village life. Helping the Beachcombers clean up the detritus left by anyone on the beach, means she discovers in more beautiful creatures to draw. A reluctant friendship starts up with her old teacher Ms Bowen and she learns more about how love can affect your whole life.

Wherever she goes it seems Emma’s path will cross with Luke and when events thro them together in a heart stopping moment, it seems that all is not lost. That is until the past turns up to cause more trouble.

A warm and heartfelt novel which has that add mystery of buried treasure and family feuds that you would think you were reading Poldark. Add to that the backdrop of Cornwall, the golden beaches, the clear blue water, the wonderful sea life around you could be forgiven in thinking you are being swept away on holiday abroad. I felt like I was. What I will say is the author has kept it very real and her message about the destruction of the planet due to plastics, to the waste left on our landscapes is very much real.

Another warm escapist book from this author.

This story really pulled me in. We gradually learn the history of Silver Cove , Emma and Luke. Emma has returned for the summer and must face Luke and her family's past. Really fast and enjoyable read.

A Golden Cornish Summer by Phillipa Ashley is a kind of serious romance between Emma and Luke. Emma and Luke had been lovers in their last year of school and after a breakup, primarily caused by interactions with their families, had been parted. Emma had gone to college and Luke had joined the navy. Now Emma was back in Falford (Cornwall) for the summer, staying with her friend, Maxi, and her family. Luke had moved back several years earlier and had purchased what had been Emma’s home. She was upset to hear that but later learned that if he hadn’t a developer would have turned it into flats and she could not have borne that. She was a commercial artist who illustrated books and greeting cards, and such, and she had sublet her apartment in Oxford for the summer to come to Cornwall to be submersed in inspiration for the book she was working on. Luke still took her breath away but there was so much else to do. She joined the Beachcombers who picked up trash on the beach. One of the beachcombers was Ursula, who had been her high school art teacher, and with whom she’d had a rocky relationship. They became friends, discovering they were kindred spirits.

Emma felt at home here in Cornwall and she considered staying but her relationship with Luke was rocky, at best, and it made it all so difficult. She was an excellent artist and fit well into the community. She felt better there, was recovering from her father’s death. Luke was part owner in a dive shop and loved his life. He was caring, and intelligent and quick. He loved Emma, always had, but there were too many problems. It was all too complicated. Then his father showed up, and made a fool of himself, and hurt Luke, again. As is often the case, lack of communication was impacting their relationship or lack of one. Ursula kept pushing, so did Maxi. It was an entertaining book, not a straight forward romance at all, but a romance it was, maybe several. Worth the read.

Emma Pelistry has returned to the village of Silver Cove for the first time since she left for university 15 years ago.
She loved living there, by the sea, but when her boyfriend, Luke, betrayed her and her family, Emma fled. Her parents' marriage failed shortly after and Emma has never really been able to move on.
After her father dies and Emma is given a commission to illustrate a book about the coast, she decides to go and stay with her best friend in Silver Cove for a few months over the summer.
Convinced that Luke will be long gone, Emma is shocked to meet him on her first day there.
Unfortunately it seems that she won’t be able to avoid him so she decides to be polite but not friendly, she will show him she is over him. Her heart has other ideas though and the more time they spend together the stronger the pull towards him becomes. Can Emma and Luke rekindle the flame from their youth or will the past simply extinguish the flame forever.
Beautifully written, this story of fun, friendship and old rivalries set against a backdrop of the gorgeous Cornish coast is perfect summer reading. Like a burst of sunshine on a dull day.

A Golden Cornish Summer by Phillipa Ashley

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK and I am leaving this review voluntarily

Emma loved her life in the seaside village of Silver Cove. But when the discovery of sunken treasure ignited a feud between her family and that of Luke, her first love, everything fell apart. Heartbroken and betrayed, she fled.

Now, as she wades into the sparkling surf for the first time in fifteen years, she remembers everything she loved about this beautiful place. Then a huge wave knocks her off her feet. Wet and dripping, Emma is rescued by none other than Luke – who is, to her dismay, even more handsome than ever.

As their paths continue to cross, and Emma is reminded of everything she ran away from, she starts to wonder if returning home was a huge mistake.

Recently I have read a lot of books set in Cornwall - everyone makes me want to plan my visit. This is not a straightforward romance and was definitely a bit 'will they, won't they' in places - but very worth the read. As I have found with Phillipa's previous books this is a great read with well developed characters and the pages just seem to turn themselves.

Such a lovely story set in the exquisite setting of Cornwall. A story from the past which becomes unearthed just like the mysterious treasure within. I loved not only the setting bit the characters too especially Ursula.

Although I am usually a fan of Phillipa Ashley’s books, this one fell flat. The story line about families feuding about lost treasure seemed a little old, as were the reasons that the relationship between Emma and Luke had ended. The author always provides a beautiful setting and this book is no different.
