Philippa Ashley's stories are my favorite was of escaping the reality, travelling to Cornwall, and being involved in a story that mixes emotions, lovely, setting, family secretes, and relatable characters.
This one was up to my expectation and I had fun and enjoyed it.

I was lucky enough to be granted early access to a copy of this book via #Netgalley and in summary it is brilliant, I can guarantee you will be hooked and not want to stop reading. The story revolves around Emma who, after 15 years returns to her hometown of Silver cove. Due to a recent commission and a rough few months she decides to rent out her flat in Bristol and stay with her friend for the summer.
In essence the story is very much a will they wont they get back together but, with so many secrets and regrets from the past it seems an impossible hope.
The setting of Silver Cove is Idyllic (making you want to drive to the coast and just enjoy the sea and sand). the characters are flawed which makes them so much more believable and human and the plot twists keep you on the end of your seat right until the end. Arlo and Ursula are hilarious adding humour to the plot and all in all a very enjoyable read.

Phillipa has again penned a stunning summer read, set in the beautiful location of Silver Cove in Cornwall. There are a few secrets that come to light during the book and relatable characters in Luke, Emma and Ursula. I only wish I could give more stars than 5.

This book is part of the Falford, Cornwall series. It can definitely be read as a standalone novel as it is set in the new location of Silver Bay, with new characters although there are references to some of the previous characters.
I really enjoyed reading this book, there was a Romeo and Juliet type theme of Emma and Luke as teenagers, in love but they had families that despised one another.
I loved reading about the beachcombing, I visit beaches fairly regularly and always see discarded rubbish that is left behind, it is very bad to see. Of course there is the nicer side, where you find sea life, shells and pebbles and fossils. It is a good subject to talk about and raise awareness.
I liked the characters and I was interested in hearing more about the two families and and why they disliked each other so much.
I enjoyed reading this book, it was a good Summer read.

I always know that Philippa Ashley will write a good book as I’ve read lots of hers and they never disappoint. This one set in Cornwall was as good as her others. I could see the beaches and feel the sunshine on my face, a perfect summer read. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Emma returns to the cornish coastal village where she grew up with trepidation. It's work that draws her home, but when she meets her first love, she wonders if she has made a mistake coming home. The rekindling of Emma and Lukes's friendship is emotional and a bit of a rollercoaster. Both have trust issues and find it hard to let go of the past.

I enjoyed the Cornish setting and the beachcombing theme. There is a good mix of drama, romance and self-realisation in this story Complex characters draw the reader into their lives with longheld secrets.

It's an ideal beach read full of emotion, friendship and a happy conclusion.

After 15 years, Emma found herself to be back to her native Cornwall to get some inspiration for her work without realising that her first love, Luke is also in Silver Cove and is staying in her former home.

With Luke around, her past came back to haunt her forcing her to confront them. I love the way how her pasts was narrated and how all of them come her life’s puzzle pieces come back together. There are many secrets that people has been keeping and these was revealed which help Emma and Luke to understand and accept their relationship.

It is a perfect summer read in a breathtaking setting. I love the characters in this book and the friendship between the community.

I’m going to preface this review with saying that the more books I read that are set in Cornwall, the more I want to move there and start my own happy little story! That being said, this wasn’t my fav one set there, nir my fav book by this author. I did like it though, and will continue to read her books.
Emma is assigned a big project and needs to get away to get it finished so when her friend Maxi offers her a place to stay, Emma finds herself back in her home town, a place she thought she’d never see again. One of the first people she reunites with is her first love, Luke. Things did not end well with them, and they do not go well when they meet again. There are secrets too big to get past. Or can they work through them? Their Romeo and Juliet family type duel was a little off putting, but once I realized why, it made a little more sense.
I loved the supporting characters m especially Ursula, who had her own history to get over.
The one drawback was the beach cleanup storyline. While I enjoyed it, there was too much detail and caused the story to drag a little. Other than that, this was a good summer day read.

A lovely read. I was fascinated learning about all the things left and washed up on the beach, astounded by how much and the effects of the plastic. Luke and Emma are such a great couple and I was ‘will they? Won’t they?’ all the way through. What a lot of twists and turns, not just treasure that was buried in this story. I also really loved Ursula, she was such an important character in this book and she was the thread that helped pull Emma and Luke together, and learning her own history was heartbreaking, but her strength to move on was inspiring.
A lovely summer read.

Emma Pelistry has returned to Silver Cove after being away for fifteen years. Her Dad has died & she has so many mixed emotions. So much has happened in the past & nothing has been resolved. Luke Kerr being part of the difficult past.
Emma is an illustrator & has moved in with her friend Maxi to finish a commission & the past is dominating her time.
I do like Emma, a great character with a great story. Phillipa Ashley never disappoints with her story lines & this one is capturing. Enjoy!

Will this beautiful place make for a happy ending ?

Absolutely perfect summer read. I could not put this down. As with all of her books, the setting is so well described you feel like you’re there. The characters were perfectly written, it was heartwarming but kept you on your toes with the will-they-won’t-they. I honestly didn’t want this to end.

This story did not grip me I was 8% through and still on the first day, there was a lot I’d description, which wasn’t needed, I skim read the book

After a long time Emma comes back to Silver Cove, to get some ideas for a project that she’s been given.

But, what she doesn’t know, is that Luke, the boy she loved during her younger years is also working in Silver Cove.

A long time has passed after finding a journal and secret treasure meant them parting company. There are things from the past that are still unresolved between them

Apart from this, there’s so much more happening, I loved Ursula, who was Emma's old school teacher, she and Emma form a strong friendship.

I also loved the Beachcombers, keeping beaches clean for visitors. It was nice to Ursula
collecting sea glass, using it to making beautiful things.

I highly recommend this book.

I loved the setting, and also the inclusion of the beach combers. I enjoyed Emma's illustrations - what she found to inspire her. I liked Emma and Luke, but felt them to be a bit childish. I also felt far too much of a drama was made out of what happened years ago. I disliked Emma repeatedly being called an ice maiden, just because she didn't always show her emotions. The ending was satisfying. Lots to like, a few irritations, but a good read all in all. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book; I was expecting a frothy beach read but it actually went much deeper than that. A Golden Cornish Summer is set in the town of Silver Cove and features some of the characters found in other Phillipa Ashley novels. The book centres around Emma, who finds herself returning to her home town after many years away, and bumping into Luke, her first love.

Although the underlying storyline is your classic will-they-won't-they, there is so much more to this book. It's about confronting your past, accepting your present and letting go. I genuinely could not tell what was going to happen to them all at the end, it was nailbiting stuff and a great read to get there!

This is the latest book in the Falford Series from Phillipa Ashley, the stories being set in and around the fictional Cornish village of Falford. Being part of a series, the book contains some recurring characters and locations, but it can be read as a standalone. I have already read the other books in the series, and was looking forward to returning to this location and the new characters introduced in this story. From the synopsis, I suspected that I was going to be taken on an adventure, and, as promised, I was hooked from the very start and didn’t want to put it down.



The story involves illustrator Emma, who is returning for the summer to her childhood home of Silver Cove, a small seaside village not far from Falford. She has not been there for fifteen years, her family having left following a bitter dispute with another family over sunken treasure. Unfortunately, the other family included her boyfriend Luke, and the pair parted company on very bad terms indeed; things were said that could not easily be overlooked. Emma has no idea when she returns to stay with her best friend Maxi that Luke has also returned to the village after a career in the navy and lives there in Emma’s former home. She decides to stay nonetheless and even becomes involved with Luke’s beachcomber group, who clean up the beach after the tourists have gone and recycle as much as they can. It is clear that Emma and Luke still have feelings for each other, but can they overcome what happened in the past?



I can thoroughly recommend this heart-warming and romantic story. I enjoyed returning to the setting for the previous books in this series, and being introduced to Silver Cove, a particularly idyllic sounding village right on the sea. What a shame that a family feud had forced Emma to leave. I liked Emma and thought her brave to stay in the area when she discovered that Luke was in residence. Luke is also a very likeable character. He has had an interesting life since the feud caused him and Emma to part, and is now a successful business owner determined to protect the beaches and wildlife in this area. Another interesting character in the story is a former teacher of both Emma and Luke. She obviously didn’t like Emma as a pupil but can’t help admiring what she has become and Emma begins to discover another person under her strict and stubborn exterior. I wasn’t sure whether Emma and Luke were going to end up together in this book. They had a very on and off relationship, enjoying each other’s company one moment and fighting the next. It was definitely worth the wait to find out the answer.

Back we trip to Phillipa's lovely setting of Falford In Cornwall, and I couldn't have been happier. Filled with love, intrigue, mystery and yes, even life-threatening danger (wonderfully written scene) more than you could shake a donkey's tail at. This book has everything and my only complaint is, it ended. Enough said!

Emma returns to her native Cornwall to help her recover from a just-failed relationship and to help her concentrate on drawing illustrations for a new book about the coast that she had been commissioned for. She almost immediately runs into an old flame, Luke, with whom she had an acrimonious breakup with many years before. Add an art teacher that she had a very fractious time with at school and the scene is set for a book with very complicated relationships.
I love books set in Cornwall, where I have spent too many holidays to count, and Phillipa's books really bring this county to life for me. I always find myself drawn into the story as I can easily imagine the settings. There are many secrets which are gradually revealed, which both help and hinder Emma and Luke rekindle their previous relationship. There is a fair amount of time spent discussing the effect of rubbish left behind on the beaches which does slow the story down occasionally, however if this stops even one person leaving things behind it is worth it. In summary this is a book that I really loved, both the highs and lows, and can highly recommend.
