A lovely summer read. Set on the gorgeous Cornish coast, the scenery is beautifully described and important part of the story.
There's a family fued, secrets, lies and buried treasure. Everything you need on a summer's day.
There's also some really fascinating information about beachcombing and, frustratingly, the amount of litter that is left on our beaches every year.

Loved this story of first love finding each other again. This also had a great mix of heartfelt moments and drama like when Ursula went missing at the cove. Loved how what happened in their childhood shaped how their lives had turned out. Everyone needs a Luke and has issues with parents. Very relatable

This book was a fun treat! I loved it! It was a good reset after I read a heavier book. It kept me flipping pages well past my bedtime!!

Set in gorgeous Cornwall, this book is full of the sights and sounds of Summer. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing how your view of Emma changed slightly as the story developed as you learnt more about her past and why she was so awkward around Luke. Friendship and family ties run through the story and by the end, you are rooting for both Emma and Luke.
I also enjoyed the environmental angle which emerged through the work of the Beachcombers. Recycling, repurposing and generally doing your best to clean up the sea and the beach gave the characters a community feel and meant that a disparate group come together and find out what they have in common. This is a lovely Summer read with characters you will like and a setting to savour.

Loved this romance about Emma and Luke and how a love gets reignited, a story of sunshine. Sea, friendship and old loves, wonderfully written couldn't put it down

This is another lovely bookish visit to a Cornish beach town. In this book, we are introduced to Emma, who returns home to Silver Cove to visit with a friend and get some work done. That is until she runs into her former boyfriend, Luke. There had been a long-standing feud between their families, resulting in the end of Emma and Luke's relationship. But will this latest visit bring to light past histories?

This book captured the serenity of this lovely beachside town and introduced us to the wonderful character of Ursula- a former art teacher. However, I found much of the storyline repetitive and did not capture my interest. Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for the ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for an advance copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

Fifteen years after leaving home, Emma returns to Silver Cove only to bump (literally and figuratively) into her first love, Luke. Luke and Emma were driven apart as teens as their fathers’ bitter feud intensified, and Emma believed that Luke had betrayed her. Now that they are reunited as adults, Luke and Emma must work through past hurts and uncover long-buried family secrets to determine if they can build a future together.

Every Phillipa Ashley book leaves me with such a hankering to visit Cornwall, and A Golden Cornish Summer is no exception. This book was an enjoyable summer read, complete with a second chance at romance with a lost love, buried treasure, and a woman’s rediscovery of what she truly wants in life. I particularly enjoyed the friends and neighbors we meet along the way. I did have a few small quibbles with the way the Ursula storyline was handled and the pacing of the middle of the novel, but I still think new and returning readers will enjoy this latest trip to Cornwall with Phillipa Ashley. 3.5 stars.

Emma returns to Silver Cove to get some inspiration for a commission she needs to finish.
Unbeknown to her, Luke her teenage love is also working in Silver Cove.
After so many years where a journal and secret treasure have kept them apart there is certainly plenty of simmering tension.
There is plenty happening in this delightful book. I loved Ursula, Emma's old school teacher who forms a solid bond with Emma.
Loved the Beachcombers but isn't it a shame that people just can't take their rubbish home.
I love the idea of collecting sea glass and making lovely things with it.
A long hot summer in Cornwall, some romance and a good story. What's not to love.
Thanks to Netgalley and Avon books for the ARC in return for an honest review.

I enjoyed this sweet book about a woman trying to decide if you an go home again. Emma returns to her Cornish hometown years after family disputes that involved her first love, Luke, ended their relationship and broke her family. Family secrets are revealed and test Emma and Luke’s ability to heal. There’s a nice sense of place, and the family drama keeps the action moving along. The dialogue on occasion struck a bit of an off tone with me, as I wasn’t convinced people would actually say what was written, but overall very enjoyable. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher.

First things first. Would like to thank the author and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for a review.
This is a book probably I would have given a 3.5 or 4 star but the premises in the book about combing beaches for debris(I am a big fan of people who want to save the environment, even if we have reached nowhere we would like to reach), at least they are trying.
Also I am a big fan of beach sea glass, I have a few from my various visit to beaches, though I wouldn't be able to find where I have kept them.
I mean this is a sort of adult type Nancy Drew which even 15 year old can read, but the various beachy things the main characters are doing makes it a what can I say-a good beach read.
I have used a lot of the word beach, I mean thats what there is in the book. Beaches and more of it. Who am I to complain???
Also, I have a few friends @aurangabadploggers in a small town in India who happen to share the enthusiasm of combing hills instead of shores like the author. And again I am a big fan of their work.

You know what you're going to get with a Phillipa Ashley novel and this latest doesn't disappoint, a sweet heart-warming, if lightweight, story of returning to your childhood home and crossing paths with your first love, unresolved feelings, secrets and miscommunications. I felt slightly at a disadvantage having not read any of the previous Falford based books but it still stands up well on its own.. For me the strength of a good romance comes from whether the story would hold it's own without the will they, won't they element and this book passes that test with the beachcombing, friendships and art storylines. I loved the growing friendship between Emma and Ursula and of course the whole Cornish setting. I would have liked a few less pleasant characters to balance out the never ending stream of lovely people in the town but I'm probably in the minority.

A Golden Cornish Summer by Phillipa Ashley

It was so lovely to back in beautiful Cornwall with its wonderful community, friendly faces, new characters and a fantastic storyline. A Golden Cornish Summer is based around Emma and Luke. Due to a family feud which left Emma heartbroken, she left her family home in the stunning Silver Cove. Returning back to stay with a friend due to her work and an art commission, she finds out that her first love, the lovely Luke, is also here. You really get such a brilliant connection between the characters, particularly the difficulties between Emma and Luke and you really feel for them. I was rooting for them to get back together throughout the book. I loved the theme of the sunken treasure which came with many hidden secrets - definitely added a different dimension to the book. I loved the community beachcombers and the sea glass jewellery Ursula (great name!) was making. Ursula was my favourite character! I enjoyed reading about the environmental impact that we all have on the area we live and how we can all do a little bit to help was great.

Everyone deserves a second chance, and although it may take time to work through everything and to regain trust, that time was very much worth it for Emma and Luke and it was not just the sun shining at the end of the book, but their love for each other! A brilliant read where you could see yourself sitting on the rocks looking over the sea, smelling the sea and taking in all the wonderful surroundings and people. I look forward to returning back to Cornwall! Thank you Phillipa Ashley for another wonderful book.

I rate it 3.75. The book painted (pun intended) the setting well, I love that it talks about current issues making it relatable and raising awareness about the environmental crisis we are facing. The added mystery between the main characters and the other supporting characters are good too.

Unfortunately I find it a bit too repetitive or too long winded at various points in the book, I’m not sure if that’s because I have been quite exhausted from returning to work this month and 2 children who have been ill for half of the month.

Many thanks Avon Books UK for the advanced review copy in exchange for honest review.

21st century Romeo and Juliet - Luke and Emma At school Emma was in love with Luke. However a feud between their parents exists. It revolves around a hidden treasure chest from a sunken vessel years before. Emma's father wanted to find it. I will not spoil things but Luke's father finds it. Emma and Luke leave school and go there separate ways with Emma going to university to study art her parents wanted her to study something else.

15 years later following the death of her father Emma returns to her Cornish home. Now a respected illastrator has a commision for a book she stays with her old school friend Maxi her husband and children. She soon meets Luke and the old friction is still present. Also still arround is her old School teacher who she did not get on with. However during her time in the seaside village Emma joins in, helping clear the beach of litter.

We learn how Lukes father found the treasure, whta happened to both sets of parents, how Emma and her teacher became friends.

A lovely read whish I have no hesitation in giving 5* and highly recommend.

Another great read from Phillipa Ashley. I always enjoy a Cornish backdrop, and this did not disappoint. Great characters and a great read. Had me googling fascinating marine creatures with its tale of beach combers and what they find. Secrets and treasure are buried in equal measure.

Always a joy to read!

It was wonderful returning to Falford in Cornwall - meeting new characters and interacting with the old faithfuls.

When Emma goes back to her roots, she is confronted with his past, both the good and the bad, although totally (and literally) in the deep end! I loved how her secrets (and her pasts) come to light, and how the pieces of the broken jigsaw of her life come back together.

Thanks to Philippa Ashley for once again bringing sunshine to a beautiful story, and showing that the best comes out of the worst situations, and that you can always start afresh, even if it means stepping backwards, and have a wonderful future.

I received an ARC of, A Golden Cornish Summer, by Phillipa Ashley. I wish I was spending my summer in Cornish, but alas Im not. This is a nice summer read about romance, friendship, treasure, and the beach. I enjoyed Emma and Luke's story.

A Golden Cornish Summer is destined to be another smash hit for Phillipa Ashley. It boasts everything that a reader of romantic fiction could want from a book. I didn’t immediately take to Emma, she seemed initially cold and not a very pleasant type of girl. However, that opinion soon changed when the story of the feud between Emma’s and Luke’s family was revealed. I can’t imagine that I would be the warmest soul if I thought that a man, I trusted, could betray me so deeply that it had massive repercussions for me and my family.
Luke is simply lovely. He’s built up a solid life and business despite his early setback and is determined to make a difference to the people and beaches of the Falford area. Of course, he’s not perfect, so if you are hoping for a huge romantic reunion, you’ll need a huge dollop of patience. Luke owns a diving business in partnership with Ran, who we met in A Special Cornish Christmas. Don’t worry if you’ve not already read the other books in this series, they all work as standalone stories with enough back story to bring you up to speed.
Once I got to know Emma, I was praying for her to find her happy ending, but that wouldn’t necessarily include a man. She has created a wonderful Illustrating business and is more than capable of standing on her own two feet. Her visit to Falford is as much about exorcising the ghosts of her past as it is about looking for a new beginning.
It was easy to pick a favourite character; I have stayed in touch with a number of my former teachers and Ursula Bowen was like a concentrated version of a few of mine. Her drive and passion for art were the inspiration behind Emma’s business, whether she recognises that, or not. I absolutely loved her stubborn determination and incredibly supportive manner.
Phillipa Ashley’s writing feels effortless, the pages seem to turn themselves. The characters are always beautifully developed to the point that I look out for them in each successive book. Escaping to Falford was just what I needed and a trip to Silver Cove was a bonus.
