Having dipped in and out of what seems to be most of this authors various different series of books, I was once again back in Mure. Flora, local girl is set on marrying the American Joel who swept her off her feet in an earlier novel. Love hasn’t been easy for them but it is about to get harder when Flora has to plan someone else’s wedding so far removed from her own desire.

Olivia and Anthony are having everything thrown at their wedding- flying in the best chefs, a living flower wall and if it costs money then it is going to feature in the wedding. This is about status, show and what the world sees through the social media lens. Flora wants a large wedding too, Joel small, but when you live on such a remote island as Mure and everyone knows everyone’s else business then they also expect to be invited.

It is turning into a wedding disaster for all concerned. But when you are on the magical island of Mure, it seems everything can be solved and romance can live on for a bit longer. You don’t need to have read pervious books to get a grasp of the characters and plot lines. There is enough of recap to dive straight in, but the best thing about these books is the wonderful setting that Colgan describes. Mure is a place I would love to visit.

Pure escapist women’s fiction.

I absolutely love Jenny Colgan books and was delighted to get an early copy of her newest book An Island Wedding. As expected, I was not disappointed and simply could not put the book down once I started! Another triumph from Colgan and eagerly look forward to reading more from the author in the future.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC

I cannot get enough of the books written by Jenny Colgan! I love them and this one did not disappoint. The story continues on the Isle of Mure and I lapped it up. The characters are down to earth and I love their stories. This one has a lovely ending even if tinged with ta touch of sadness. I hope there's another one on its way!

We're back in Mure hooray! Honestly I get just the best feeling when I open a Jenny Colgan book. It's like coming home from a cold walk through the snow and being met by a roaring fire and a steaming mug of hot chocolate.

This latest Jenny Colgan does not disappoint in any way. Flora and Lorna are back and honestly it feels like returning to friends. I cried, I smiled, I felt like I went through every emotion. Just beautiful, thank you so much to netgalley for the APC.

This was a nice and easy chic lit read. It’s not my favourite of Jenny Colgans books but it was still enjoyable with a nice set of characters.

Jenny Colgan has done it again!
A bit reluctant to finish as I know it’s the last in the series but It felt like coming home and meeting up with friends.
Wedding fever has hit Mure, Olivia (Jans sister) and her fiancé, Flora and Joel are both planning their weddings but not everything is plain sailing.
We catch up with Lorna and Saif along with other Mure residents.
I laughed, cried and shouted at the book as individuals were being so frustratingly single minded.
OMG, no spoilers, but THAT ending has to be followed up even if it’s in a novella, don’t leave it there please???

I hadn't realised there were previous books in the series until the end but there is enough background information on the characters for it not to matter if you are new to the Island series. It was an enjoyable read, would recommend.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
I have not read all the other books in this series but there is sufficient information about previous events to understand relationships and characters' behaviours. The novel includes many descriptions of the beautiful scenery, and the attractions (and negatives) of living in such a remote area. There are some comical pieces of dialogue, and the fraught, realistic romance is threaded throughout the book, making it a perfect romcom. The narrative style is unusual with a lot of long sentences; this made me read some sections very quickly, I felt as though the author was trying to turn the reading into a race against time. However, overall I thought the book was well-written and enjoyable.

I’ve read every book in the series so far and loved them all. Although this feels like it could be the last one I hope there will be more in the future. The characters are relatable, likeable and very familiar, those who were in previous books make appearances throughout as you’d expect people in a close knit community pop in and out of everyday life.

Two weddings are due to happen on the same weekend. One a very small intimate wedding, the other a huge spectacular. It's lovely to read about all the plans and preparations and the emotions surrounding the weddings. Will one totally overwhelm the other. Will each bride get what she dreams of? The end of a lovely series sees you in the middle of the flowers and romance of an Island wedding!

Another enchanting story set in Mure. I really love these Scottish escapes, and it's always great to see some old characters - although this can be read as a stand alone book too.
A mixture of romance, great story and two weddings, all based at the hotel The Rock. There are years a plenty, both happy and sad, mixed with jealous sisters and family problems.
A really delightful read, I hope we get to visit again soon........

An Island Wedding by Jenny Colgan

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

On the little Scottish island of Mure--halfway between Scotland and Norway--Flora MacKenzie and her fiancé Joel are planning the smallest of "sweetheart weddings," a high summer celebration surrounded only by those very dearest to them.

Not everyone on the island is happy about being excluded, though. The temperature rises even further when beautiful Olivia MacDonald--who left Mure ten years ago for bigger and brighter things--returns with a wedding planner in tow. Her fiancé has oodles of family money, and Olivia is determined to throw the biggest, most extravagant, most Instagrammable wedding possible. And she wants to do it at Flora's hotel, the same weekend as Flora's carefully planned micro-wedding.

As the summer solstice approaches, can Flora handle everyone else's Happy Every Afters--and still get her own?

My Opinion

Previously I have loved books by Jenny Colgan, unfortunately I read two disappointing books and now I am trying to learn to love her writing again.

This is only my second book in this series, and whilst I have missed out on some of the background information I found myself able to read this quite easily. If you have read all of the books in the series (ideally in order) then this book is like being greeted by old friends. If you enjoy women's fiction and books by Jenny Colgan then this series is worth a try - there are some lovely characters.

Rating 4/5

Another charming tale set on the fictional Isle of Mure, with the usual host of warm and funny characters, as well as some new ones.

Every time I read a book in this series, I feel as if I’m part of the Mure community, and I’m utterly invested in the characters.

I’m not ashamed to say that this book made me weep at times but equally was funny and heart warming.

And I really really want to visit Mure and have tea with Flora!!!

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Another amazing installment in the Mure series! I just love the characters and the community and look forward to returning with every book.
This one broke my heart a little with Saif and Lorna's storyline. They are probably my favourite characters and I really hope we get another book that focuses on them.
If you haven't started this series yet I would recommend reading in order, it's worth it!

Awwww what a read! Love all of Jennys books and this is up there with them. The ending took me by surprise.. is there going to be another book?!

another typically wonderful read by Jenny Colgan, with the recurring characters of Flora and Joel and local community. It's especially satisfying to see the evolution from the first book and to follow these characters. Colgan's books are always compulsively readable and with the series, they build to show new sides of characters, in this case the unlikeable Jan, as Colgan always manages to show another side to characters that begin completely unlikeable. The interwoven stories always are handled with care and grace, so the pace is sustained and easily digestible. What is always done particularly well are the small human moments, especially unseen kernels of yearning of characters when life isn't going to plan, which feels very human. The last quarter of the book is gripping and after the nail-biting is a very satisfying ending. I love that her books are always resolved but left open in case the series continues on. Can't wait for her next one!
