I have read and thoroughly enjoyed all of Jenny Colgan’s Mure Island series. Much as I enjoyed them I greatly appreciated the catch up in the introduction. The beautiful atmospheric descriptions of the island are as wonderful as ever and the community never fail to enthral. The heartbreaking conclusion to the relationship between Lorna and Saif was sensitively handled. I look forward to the next instalment and highly recommend the whole series.

Back on the Island of Mure, I’ve read all the Mure series but I think this one was my favourite of all.
Flora and Joel are planning their wedding when an old face from the island decides to bring her celebrity wedding to Mure.
When Olivia arrives with all her fancy plans it puts pressure on the whole wedding party. The Rock is the venue but will they be able to cater for all Olivia’s needs.
It was great to catch up with the residents of Mure again. Also loved the weekend trip to Edinburgh, being from Edinburgh it was lovely to read the descriptions of the town I grew up in.
Thank You Little Brown Book Group UK and NetGalley for an ARC of this great book

I've been a fan of Jenny Colgan for many many years but haven't read one of her books for a while, so I was pleasantly surprised that An Island Wedding hadn't lost any of the charm and humour I remembered from Colgan's previous novels. The island in question is Mure in the Scottish Highlands, and this is book 13 of the Mure series. It's no issue if you're starting the series from here though, as there's an excellent recap before you start.

The book centres around local Flora, who is trying to organise her wedding to Joel. However, plans soon go astray with the arrival of glamorous Olivia, an 'influencer' who wants the most extravagant wedding in her home town. There's a whole host of other characters too, including the secret romance between Lorna and Saif. I found that the strong storylines of these characters really helped lift the book from what could have been too far from reality at times. I found myself really engaging with them, and feeling a whole host of emotions!

I can't wait to catch up on the rest of the series!

An Island Wedding is just wonderful. Go and buy it, you’ll thank me!

Oh you wanted more than that for a review? Okay then, I’ll tell you what I enjoyed so much about An Island Wedding.

Jenny Colgan writes so brilliantly about relationships of all kinds and doesn’t shy away from the difficulties that people sometimes encounter. Her characters are expertly drawn and feel very realistic. For me reading this book after already visiting Mure in previous books, it was like meeting up with old friends and finding out what had happened to them in between our last catch-up. However, even if you haven’t read any of the Mure books you could read this as a standalone, greatly helped by a quick resume of previous main points the author helpfully adds at the beginning of the book.

As the title suggests, love is in the air on Mure as two couples, Flora and Joel and Olivia and Anthony, plan quite different weddings. Another more secretive relationship between the island doctor Syrian refugee Saif and headteacher Lorna is a much more complicated affair. This particular relationship moved me so much as Saif faced some very difficult situations and had what seemed like impossible decisions to make.

There is a lot that made me laugh in this book – Gaspard’s outbursts in the kitchen for a start – and Jenny Colgan brings that lightness of touch to all her books, even though some serious issues are included. I have to mention young Agot who would no doubt infuriate me if I knew her for real but is absolutely hilarious! And there are a few characters who you might love to hate initially (I’m thinking Jan and Olivia) but who change over the book and who you will grow to like too.

I love the island setting of Mure. I feel like I know the island so well from the Seaside Kitchen café, to the Rock Hotel, from the Harbour’s Rest Hotel, to the lighthouse and the Endless Beach. It’s a community Jenny Colgan has brought vividly to life for me. I’ve loved getting to know all the inhabitants and I really hope that we pay a return visit before too long. I love the island and all the characters that Jenny Colgan has created. The romance, laughter, drama and emotion – what more do you need in a book?

So as I said at the beginning, An Island Wedding is just wonderful. Go and buy it, you’ll thank me!

A someone who has just adored the entire Mure series, I was delighted to receive this ARC read from netgalley.

The book follows preparations for the first ever wedding at The Rock, Mure's classy hotel which Flora is now running. There's also her own wedding to Joel on the cards. But their respective hopes for the big day are a long way apart.

Add to this the private love between Lorna and Saif and you have yourself a great book.

I really hope that Jenny decides to revisit Mure in future.

Return to Mure in the 5th book set on the beautiful Scotland island and delve back into the lives of the well loved locals!

It’s no secret that I adore Jenny’s writing and how she manages to create such atmospheric settings, so much so that I feel like I’m there with the characters. The way the characters all seem so human and real, and have flaws and actual life problems instead of being perfect is something I really enjoy reading.

I absolutely adored being back in the world of Flora, Joel and the rest of the Mure folk but I love most about this book - and all set on Mure - is the community. I love how close everybody is and how they all come together no matter what to help not only one of their own but anyone in need of a hand.

Please say there going to be a 6th book set on Mure because I wanna know what happens in the months after the end of this one!

Thank you #NewGalley for the the eARC in exchange for an honest review

I haven’t read any of the other stories about Flora and Joel and Mure island but this wasn’t at all a problem. I was immediately swept away to the beautiful island and very quickly got to know the characters. A talented author can tell many stories within one novel and that is exactly what happens here. There’s Olivia’s wedding, Flora’s wedding, the drama with Olivia’s family in general, Saif and Lorna, Saif’s dilemma- there’s just SO much going on and it’s so utterly absorbing. I laughed, I felt teary and it was a fun read. I feel like I need to go right back and read the whole series now!

Jenny Colgan is in my all-time top ten of authors, and once again has written an excellent book. I love the books set on Mure and the characters that appear in the book.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I have devoured all Jenny Colgan's books and have loved them all and this was no exception. Great storyline, great characters and basically a really good read.

I normally love Jenny Colgan books, but not this one. I just couldn't get into. I couldn't connect with any of the characters. There was a depressing feel to it too. One positive, I loved the descriptions of the island. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another glorious tale from the island of Mure from Jenny Colgan!!! Totally brilliant!!
Being a long term reader of Jenny's, this was pure delight to be transported back to the Scottish Isles and a wonderfully complex and mixed community both in characters and life stories.
Flora and Joel wanted their wedding on midsummer in June to be a quiet affair, but socialites Olivia and Anthony have requested their wedding on the same day, at the hotel Flora runs, which sweeps her along in a wave of extravaganza and dreams.
Hilarious laugh outoud, yet so very heartfelt sensitive and exquisitely touching!
This book swept me along on a beautiful journey over the summer season in the Isles.
Loved it and couldn't recommend highly enough!!
Thank you to NetGalley for the early read much appreciated!! 💕

This book is back on the island of Mure again, catching up with some of the characters with some new ones too.
Flora's wedding is on the cards but rather than the full wedding she wants she has just discovered that her fiancé Joel wants the exact opposite, so she agrees to go along with him
Olivia a past resident from the island who left and became famous is coming back for her wedding but it's going to be an all singing all dancing one.
Flora realises she doesn't want a small intimate wedding after all and things start to grow when Joel finds out
How can they make each other happy ?

Didn’t realise this was part of a series but I enjoyed it all the same. Liked the characters & plot & look forward to going back to the other books in the series and reading them.

Having read the previous Mure books, it was great to be back on this beautiful Scottish island. Jenny has a gift for bringing the scenery to life like a breath of fresh air. The people too! Joel and Flora are getting married and also arranging another at the luxury hotel Flora manages. This is for a famous model born and bred on the island, so lots of wedding detail. It is a light easy read full of warmth and humour with touches of poignancy. Definitely a romantic comfort read.

I didn't know this was a book in the series. So I lost out on knowing all the characters. Nevertheless, I found this interesting enough for a setting where weddings were to be held. Renowned model Olivia and Anthony wanted to marry on the remote island of More. But the manager of The Rock hotel Joel wasn't sure if she and her staff could cater to the demands of such an extravagant wedding, and she too was due to get married.
As days pass, both the main characters go through their own set of problems.
The plot was entertaining. I loved author Jenny Colgan's writing, the rich landscapes were wonderful to imagine. Overall, a great read.

Honestly at this point i'm just infuriated because we are five books in and not one thing has changed. This book could easily be book 1 in the series because these characters have not moved on in any sense. In book 1 Joel and Flora could not communicate, five books later they have still not learnt how to actually talk to each other so every damn book is them falling out because they cannot communicate properly and then by the end they're happy families once again and it is JUST SO DAMN DULL. I am bored of it. Even the Saif and Lorna storyline has bored me to tears because they have just not moved on. I used to love this series but since rereading the first three and reading the last two I am just done with it. Also - can the spelling errors and plot changes please cease because they are just so frustrating at this point.

I've utterly adored some of Jenny Colgan's books in the past but this latest in the Mure series isn't my favourite and I'm not entirely sure why. I loved the first two books but this one felt a different tone. The island life on Mure is a redemptive feature: the backdrop of the rugged coastline whale pods and quiet beauty. I think it's the bunch of characters that don't ever quite gel with me and I feel sorry to say that. I kept getting Flora and Lorna mixed up, Joel is a grump & self-absorbed, even Agot's "Luna Lovegood"-type quirkiness didn't really connect for me.
The drama and cattiness between Jan, her sister Olivia, and Flora & Lorna grated quite considerably. I appreciate life's sadly like that and women do suffer with envy, comparisons & judgement on how they appear rather than on their true nature, but to read it play out repeatedly and nobody really realising it's quite a shabby thing to do was depressing. Nobody felt like someone I particularly would want to hang out with and I think that's what felt so disappointingly flat to me.

Local girl turned international model Olivia and her very rich fiancée Anthony want to hold their extravagant wedding at the beautiful Rock hotel on the remote Scottish island of Mure.
The manager of The Rock, Flora, isn't sure she or the hotel are quite ready of this kind of event and not everyone is happy to see Olivia back. Besides Flora should be busy planning her own wedding to Joel. Unfortunately, Flora and Joel have very different ideas about what they want for their big day.
As the wedding date draws closer Flora and Olivia try to negotiate the ups and downs that inevitably come before a wedding.
Wonderful to be back with the characters on Mure. Jenny Colgan's writing is so good that you can imagine yourself on the beautiful island, enjoying the sunshine, watching the storms, it's simply stunning. Don't worry if you haven't read any of the previous Mure books Jenny does a brief catch up at the start to explain the main characters. Would definitely recommend you do read them though, it's a beautiful series.

I have not red the previous books in the series but I found this not to be a problem. I really enjoyed the book as a standalone book and I will be looking out for the rest of the series.

This is the latest book in a series following the fortunes of Flora MacKenzie and her family, who live on the tiny and remote Scottish island of Mure. At the beginning of the series, readers met Flora as she returned to her childhood home following the death of her mother and settled back into island life. Much has happened in the intervening years, happy and sad events being chronicled in the books, all of which I have enjoyed immensely. Jenny Colgan has charmed me once again with this book, but as well as the story within, I must mention the cover, which this time is absolutely stunning.

In this next part of the saga, Flora is preparing finally to marry her American partner, Joel. Joel wants a small wedding, but everyone on the island is assuming it will be an event involving the whole community. Meanwhile, there is to be another wedding at the Rock, the island’s prestigious hotel run by Flora. The strikingly beautiful Olivia who left the island many years ago is planning to stage the society wedding of the year there, with a whole host of outlandish ideas proposed by her wedding planner. At the other end of the island, doctor Saif is struggling with the decision of whether he should once more uproot his young sons and return to Damascus, where he feels he could be useful and the boys might be reunited with their mother. But what of his growing relationship with the island’s teacher Lorna?

This is another triumph of a story from Jenny Colgan, filled with drama intertwined with her usual brand of humour. As someone who has been following this series from the beginning, I really enjoyed catching up with Flora and other recurring characters, but I equally enjoyed meeting the new introductions. Having said that, I think that the book functions perfectly well as a standalone for those who are new to Mure. For newcomers and returning readers alike, I love that the author has included an update on the ‘story so far’ at the beginning of this book, along with a pen picture of the island and, most precious of all, a map. I can heartily recommend this book; it is entertaining from start to finish and kept me guessing right to the end.
