This is a thrilling mystery. The story is told over dual timelines. This is a very clever and original premise.

With a huge apologies to the publishers and the author. I read this book last year and completely forgot to review it!!
The book was a great read and immediately hooked me.
The story is centred around the true crime website, Dark Tourist, which gives details of the most horrific crimes that have taken place
Hanna has secrets, completely isolated from her family.
Hanna is single and is set up by her friends with Adam, who has a great interest in true crime
Hannas secrets quickly started to be revealed…
What an intense book. The author really did the whole concept justice. It was a great psychological thriller book and I could feel Hanna’s anxiety through the pages.
The book is full of action and was easily devoured over a few reading sessions.
I can’t wait to read more by the author.

Before this book I've never heard of the idea of dark tourism, but do agree, it does play nicely into our modern idea of entertainment. The more guts, blood and gore, the better! Combine the blood and guts with some murders and you have yourself a very thrilling read that keeps you entertained until the end!

A fast paced, chilling mystery with family drama. A unique concept and one not to be missed!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read it.

This is a fast paced thriller, family drama, that kept me hooked and guessing until the end. The characters are deep and have a well developed timeline. The dark tourism plot device was a unique, but I wish it could have been more developed. Overall I’ve really enjoyed this book.

A new author to me. A very enjoyable read . I felt the storyline and writing style was good. Quite suspenseful at times, especially towards the end of the book. I certainly look forward to reading more from this author.

This was a really well written domestic thriller. It was a bit obvious in places but it was still a good read to find out all the secrets and reasons why people did what they did. I would definitely read another by this author

Would really highly recommend this book as a must read. It was such a fantastic psychological thriller with lots of twists and turns and such good mystery read with such a great story and so well written that I could not leave it down. It had very interesting characters and so well written.

This was an enjoyable enough read but the second half was the much more interesting part.
I wish this was darker, more suspenseful read. The Dark Toursim element was intriguing to me. But it was barely delved into. I understand why. But I think it would have added another layer to the book.
It took me around 70% of the book to fully be gripped. But by then a lot of the information had been either given freely or just a little too predictable.

It sounded like a captivating and intriguing premise, but unfortunately for me, the book did not deliver.

The story sounded good in the blurb, but the execution left me wanting more refinement!

It does not seem particularly twisty to keep me engaged. The book was repetitive and seemed too long, plus some bits were too far fetched and I would love more dark tourism 'deep dives' which would be fascinating to read about!

Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC!

Hanna is in the middle of getting her life together getting rid of her ex and been set up on a blind date with Adam. All is not what it seems and a Dark Web page started by Adam is hacked. Her estranged family is listed at the site of a murder about to happen that day. The story is told in two timelines and the pace was a bit slow for the first half. The second half really picked up and the many twists of the story and characters came to life. I would have liked the Dark web idea to feature more in the overall story as this was an original idea.
I was given an arc of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

There is nothing quite like a good thriller and I always fly through well-written ones. I’ve never read anything by Vanessa Savage and I rarely see her talked about but I was thoroughly taken in by this book.

Hanna is estranged from her family after leaving her hometown in disgrace years before. But after a date with a dark tourism fanatic, Hanna sees her family home listed on his website. Apparently the place was the scene of a recent violent crime that left three victims dead. Panicked, Hanna tries to contact her family but is unsuccessful and apparently so are the police. As the case progresses, Hanna realises that she’ll have to revisit her dark past and confront what really happened. And someone is determined for her to do exactly that…

Hanna has a very low opinion of herself and it’s obviously the same opinion that she has held for a very long time. She doesn’t believe that she deserves good things and that makes her vulnerable to being frightened and threatened.

Adam runs a dark tourism website and of course, when Hanna’s childhood home appears on his site, he is the prime suspect for uploading it. I couldn’t let go of my Adam suspicions because I kept being presented with information that he was involved in some way, which was highly unsettling. I do wish that dark tourism had been explored a little more because I think this is the first time I’ve across it in a book. Although it was mentioned at the beginning as we were getting to know Adam, it didn’t really become a central theme, which would be given the book a unique slant.

I can’t talk too much about the plot and the multiple characters who come into play because I’d definitely stumble on spoilers. However, I was thoroughly swept away by the crazy plot. The truth gradually revealed itself to me, which is exactly how I love thrillers to work.

The Night They Vanished is a page-turning mystery with several strands that slowly start coming together. If you love twisty novels with unreliable, troubled characters, this is definitely for you!

A short but enjoyable book. A solid four out of five. Would be a 5 but feel like it needed a bit more.

THANKS TO NETGALLEY AND THE PUBLISHER FOR THIS REVIEW COPY IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW.

Hanna is living a difficult life away from her family, dad, step-mom, and a little sister. Her only family is her best friend who decided to set up a blind date for her. Adam-the blind date is into dark tourism and runs a website dedicated to it. Someone hacked that site and  Hanna found her family home listed there with some shocking details. On the other side, Sasha is also living a harsh and strict life. She is not allowed to do anything like a normal teen and doesn't have friends. She needs a way to feel normal.

The synopsis of the book intrigued me but the book missed the mark. Two narratives were going on and sometimes I felt one narrative was lagging. The writing style wasn't able to hold my attention, the flow of the writing was missing. The characters were too annoying and I wasn't able to connect to any of them. The relationship between Hanna and Adam was behind my comprehension, the chemistry was nowhere to be found. Hanna and Sasha's father was a piece of work and one of the worst characters. The first half of the book was torture to read but if you make it to the second half then you are up to some twists and real progress in the story.

This seemed a short book with some good elements. Unfortunately the main plot seems never to develop into a thrilling read or at least it didn’t for me.
