In the light of the constant school shootings in the US, this book can be seen as still relevant to all. A couple of kids go into a barn, something happens, and one of them are shot. Who shot him? Why was he shot? This brings the whole discussion regarding gun violence and gun control to the forefront while making for thrilling, entertaining reading.

Nothing ever happens in a sleepy American town like Middlebrook. Until the events of one shocking hot Saturday afternoon when, at a bock-to-school party, nine children sneak off to a barn and a gun is fired. And one child is critically injured by another. And the press want to know: which child actually pulled the trigger.

I loved everything about this book and I was hooked from the first page. You can feel all the emotions dripping from the pages. This is a gripping read that I didn't want to put down. The characters are well developed, it's well written with a few twists. I liked the authors writing style. This is one of those books that you're better off going into it blind. I could go on and on about the story but I would just spoil it for potential readers. The author also writes under the name of Nina Munroe and this book has been previously published under that name.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #LittleBrownBookGroupUK and the author #VirginiaMacgregor for my ARC of #TheChildrensSecret in exchange for an honest review.

A frightening domestic thriller set in sleepy suburbia that raises some difficult questions concerning what is the right way of raising a child and keeping them safe. A thought provoking novel!

Middlebrook is a gorgeous quite, cosy American town. Everyone knows one another and it is safe and happy and a great place to live. That is until one day at a child's birthday party, nine children sneak off to a barn, one of them has a gun but who shot the child who ends up in critical condition. Who committed the crime? And why are none of the other children speaking up?

A very well written who done it book.

A quick and easy read that I found myself picking up after a long day to unwind. The characters are beautifully written and I came to love them within the first few pages and was rooting for them all the way to the end. At times I wanted to stop reading because I just wanted the experience to go on for longer.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

An intriguing read. Children and guns - they don't mix, but the gun was in a locked cabinet, so it was safe, wasn't it? So many questions and the only people with the answers are children. A really well written book that is a great read and makes you think. Lots of twists, it keeps you guessing.
