It's not often a book can bring tears to my eyes, but I found myself getting invested in the characters lives. They were believable but not predictable. I thoroughly enjoyed this book

If I'm honest, this book surpassed my expectations. I am a sucker for a novel set in academia and given the title and outline, I thought this would be a bog standard tale of revenge (if there's such a thing) however, this novel packs a mean twist, and then some! I stayed up late to finish this as I couldn't quite put the book down. Really enjoyable read!

I really enjoyed this book, it was gripping, so well written and really believable. I have a guilty pleasure for revenge styled books. Easy paced book which isn’t too fast nor slow paced.

A few twists and turns which follow and keeps you engaged reading and turning the pages. I liked how the past and present were shown in different chapters and build you up to the Wow moment. Overall I would recommend this book, it is a very interesting read which I really enjoyed.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my arc copy in exchange for my honest review.

Anyone who’s received an invitation to a university or school reunion may appreciate the dread that protagonist Emily Toller feels when it’s time to make a reappearance. Her uni days weren’t the best of her lives – leaving as she did under a cloud of confusion and shame, at least on her part – so going back to her past and reuniting with the people who made her feel so worthless isn’t high on her agenda. However, she now has a good life, a happy life with her children and Nick, who all too well understands her pain and insecurity about returning. However, the time has come for her to be open about past events and to let everyone know what really went on, in the hopes that those responsible will finally answer for their actions. Emily has it all planned out… revenge, even if it comes 20 years later, will be worth it, right? You have to admire her throughout and you are willing her on to find the truth. An interesting read that will definitely make you look differently at your friends.

Wow I loved this book!!
Gripping, interesting, believable, so well written.
I did not want this to end - I would actually have loved. To carry on and see what happened afterwards with the characters ( I don’t want to give the ending away) .

A fabulous book .

I love a good revenge street, and this one fit the bill perfectly! The protagonist decides to use the college reunion coming up as the backdrop to her getting back at those school mates that did her wrong in the past. An excellent read!

That beginning! Why and who is trying to strangle Emily. I love to get drawn into a book so quickly. Her best friends from Uni make an awesome foursome. Everyone wants to be as special as them until something goes awfully wrong.
I really struggled to rate this between a 5 or 4 star, a couple of times I wanted to shake Emily. I’ve decided on a 4.5 unfortunately I can’t rate it that.
Thank you so much for Netgalley, Polly Phillips and the publisher for giving me an advanced copy of this.

Good story. Well written book. No rollercoaster ride but a nicely paced easy to read book. Great beach read or a book that makes you feel like you don’t have to work too hard. That saying I would look what else the author had written.

Early on in the book, I found it all a bit sad: the story of Emily, a girl who worked hard to study at Cambridge, following in the footsteps of her successful older sister. However, bad choices, unsuitable friendships, naivety and being overawed by privilege means that she fails to reach her full potential. As the book develops, following the dual storyline of the ‘now’ and ‘before’ we can see that she is out for revenge and the fifteen year reunion is where she plans to settle old scores.
It’s a riveting read, some predictable twists and I can see this book would appeal to many readers. Unfortunately, I didn’t like any of the characters and although initially I had empathy for the main character, her continued bad choices and obsession for vengeance means that she is as unpleasant as many of the others who allegedly did her harm. I give this book 3 ***

When a book makes me cry it has to be a 5* read. Emily is trying to forget the one night in college that changed her life forever. I was taken through a range of emotions. The twist comes and then turns you on your head again. A new authornto me but one that I look forward to reading again.

The duel timeline kept me turning the pages and I did not see that ending coming at all! Would recommend to friends.

I was intrigued by the themes running through this book - privilege, class divisions, betrayal, revenge - all set against the backdrop of Cambridge University.

The dual timeline of Emily's (that is, the narrator's) university days and her return to Cambridge for a reunion years later provide the lead-up to her betrayal and then her taking her eventual revenge.

I enjoyed the descriptions of how the other half lived at Cambridge and the author raises the issue of "faces not fitting" even in this most exclusive of seats of learning. I did feel that the pre-reunion sections could have been a bit shorter, as I wanted the real action to get going, especially as we don't find out what actually happened to Emily until quite far into her narrative.

Having said that, when these details do come out at the reunion (along with a lot more besides), a fire is really lit under this story, setting it apart from other revenge tales I have read. A satisfyingly twisty ending seals the deal.

I loved this psychological thriller from Polly Phillips. Im new to this author but she will definitely be on my radar from now on!

The plot revolves around Emily, a woman in her 30s married to Nick, who was a vague acquaintance from university. Emily failed to graduate, having left under a cloud of shame immediately prior to her final exam. She has struggled through life since, finally settling with Nick and having 2 children.

Under the tutelage of her feisty older sister, when the opportunity to attend a reunion at University, Emily plots her revenge. The night arrives and cue explosive plot twists!!

This is a stunningly explosive novel, there really is never a dull moment.

For fellow fans of the psychological thriller genre, I advise, run, don't walk, to procure yourselves a copy!!

My thanks to Netgalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.
