This is a good psychological thriller with elements of darkness throughout it. The characterisation is done so well.
This is a slow burn thriller which kept my interest.

Kate has moved to London to find her sister Scarlett who disappeared 15 years ago.

Kate has a chance meeting with life coach Delia who invites her to a coaching session in her home. Kate who is feeling lonely and at a crossroads with her life, accepts the offer.

Kate meets Delia's husband and 2 children she soon becomes jealous of their lifestyle and becomes attached to the children. Delia invites her to France for the summer as her live in nanny. But are they the perfect family and what secrets are they hiding!!

A slow burner to start with but as the tension increases this soon becomes an addictive chilling thriller.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

I loved The House Guest! What a gripping page turner this was. I stayed up late reading as I was desperate to find out what would happen next. The author explores the dark side of the mind and human behaviour in this twisty, heart pounding read. Five stars from me!

A solid psychological thriller, shining the light on the struggles of young women in today’s success-centric society. Highly recommended!

A little far fetched but if you can read past that this is the thriller for you.
The House Guest is a quick paced novel that will grip you and remind you to be very cautious with offers of help.

Thank you to the publishers, @netgalley and @charlotte_north for the digital copy of #thehouseguest in exchange for my honest review. It's taken me ages to read but that is part and parcel of my frazzled state of mind at the moment. 'The House Guest' has a sense of menace which creeps up on you with each page turned and it is a book I'd thoroughly recommend for lovers of the psychological thriller.

The book centres around Kate who is a bit lost. She is drifting through life and since the disappearance of her older sister, she feels her purpose should be focused on finding her. Then she meets Della, beautiful, tanned, together, admired and fitting the description of life coach extraordinaire. Della recognises Kate's loss and wants to piece her back together; inviting her into her circle, letting her visit her beautiful North London home and importantly (plot wise), to allow her to go on holiday to France with her family and close knit gang. It's at that point it becomes sinister with a capital S. Prepare for an unexpected pregnancy, contracts being drawn up, manipulation and Kate spiralling out of control.

Oh my goodness, what a read. This kind of physiological drama/thriller is right up my street. It kept me hooked for 24 hours because thats how long it took me to read it, such a page turner!! The characters were all quite realistic and you never knew who to trust. But ultimately your heart did have to go out to Kate, the main character. There were a lot of issues in her past but you couldn’t blame her for what she did, she had been through so much!! It teaches you that things aren’t always what they seem and you cant trust everyone that comes into your life!! Would highly recommend this book.

Thanks to HarperCollins and NetGalley for allowing me an advanced copy to read. As always, my reviews will also be posted on Amazon, Goodreads and Waterstones

Not bad, if you are prepared to forget that characters in books sometimes have to act illogical to actually make a story ( ie if they did as we would in the same situation it would be book over ) then there is a goodish story here……Kate finds herself lulled into a false sense of security with her new ‘friend’ Della and in fact let’s her take over her life…..this is all with the added tale of Kate’s missing sister from years ago as a kind of background story…..Kate cannot see the blatantly obvious nastiness of Della and so Della traps her into what we now say is a life of slavery…..until Kate does something she really regrets and things go from bad to worse
I carried on reading as I wanted to know how it would all end and what would happen to Kate and Della
I have read a review that said the ending was a ‘flat as a pancake’ and nodded in agreement at this, because it was

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. I read the first chapter and nothing about it grabbed my attention, so I gave up. I feel like I had this issue in the past with one of Charlotte's books.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of The House Guest by Charlotte Northedge in exchange for an honest review.
This was a twisted thriller which had me uneasy and on edge throughout the whole novel. I had a sense of impending doom whilst reading and yet I just couldn’t stop till I’d finished it. It was really well written and ominous throughout.
This is a dark and disturbing book. It talks of losing a child, trauma with motherhood and having your child taken from you. If this is something you struggle reading out I would be careful before reading.

This is a dark and dangerous read, that had me unsure of who to trust. It was slow to start but really did get under my skin - I was itching to read on every time I had to put the book down. I think it was entertaining and engaging throughout, perfect for those who like mystery and thrillers.

4.5 rounded up to 5.

Kate has been searching for her missing sister Scarlett, so she moves to where there has been a sighting of her. She joins a life coaching group led by Della, with strange rules and other women she calls 'The Jane's.
As Kate is drawn into Della's family, she is invited away, and it becomes sinister.
Roller coaster of a ride, amazing read! Truly didn't know what to expect next as the story unfolded.

This book was an interesting read. It started off well but then it got more and more unusual. Kate becomes obseesed with Della and in turn Della becomes very involved in her life and even invites her to her family home. in France. It is there in France that the plot becomes more unusual and a bit odd and I found it hard to finish. Overall a good read but has a odd ending.

Thanks to Harper Collins, Charlotte Northedge and NetGalley for the ARC of The House Guest.

Kate moves to London to search for her sister who went missing years before. She is feeling lost and confused, when in walks Della - a life coach who runs classes that help women achieve their goals.

She invites Kate to her classes free of charge - she feels she can help Kate and Kate has nothing to lose.

It quickly becomes apparent however that Della is the master manitpulator, but what is it about Kate that appeals so much? Where have some of the other women gone and why did they predict that she would be invited to stay as a house guest?

The second half of this book took a slightly sinister and slightly unbelievable turn which wasn't really for me, but if you are able to defy belief a bit and focus on the gripping, manipulative and dark side of a mystery thriller then this one is definitely worth a read.

Oh my god!

This book is absolutely amazing!

I love the twists and the turns in this book, with others you sort of expect what is coming next but with this it was a complete surprise!

I love the main character Kate! Della is awful!

This book is a highly recommended read, it kept me hooked throughout and it was so hard to put down!

I look forward to reading more books by author Charlotte Northedge in the future.

Della is a life coach/ therapist/ guru/ cult-leader/ mother/ wife depending on who you speak to . She lives an utterly enviable life in North London with perfect children, adoring husband and the house of your dreams. She runs a group to encourage women to find their purpose and achieve their aims, and invites Kate to join them.
Kate has recently moved to London to find her long lost sister, and welcomes the chance to join the group. The story focusses on the growing and changing relationship between Della and Kate, as Kate opens up more and becomes more involved with Kate and her entire family, nannying for the children, attending parties etc..

The story is told entirely from Kate's view and you can see how she is skilfully and subtly manipulated by Della, who has history of discarding other people without notice, keeping Kate on her toes and eager to please.

As readers, you want to shake Kate and tell her what is happening. For me, the second half of the story got more unbelievable but was still enjoyable to read.

I felt this book lacked substance. The early part was definitely the best part but the second half seemed too unlikely and far fetched. It’s not a hard book to read though so if you’re looking for an easy summer read this may be more for you than it was for me.
