Thank you Netgalley & Avon Books for an eARC of The Cabin in the Woods by Sarah Alderson!

Why did I take so long to read this one? Super atmospheric, I was able to read this in one sitting. As the title states, this one kicks off with a cabin in the woods. I wasn't sure what to expect based on the synopsis - And this one was suspenseful and truly delivered.

I can't wait to see what Alderson comes up with next!

More of a domestic thriller but still a page turner. Alternating point of view between two different time frames. The author really makes you feel and realize the elements of which Rose is dealing with. She is trying to stay alive, hidden in a cabin with no heat or electric in the winter. She has to be ready for anyone and anything. Rose had a hard life and she had a lot of responsibilities, her parents both drug addicts and she was taking care of her younger sister.. Can she make it out alive? Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the advance ecopy.

“The Cabin in the Woods” by Sarah Alderson tells the story of wanted socialite Rose Reid. Her rags to riches life seemed charming… until it wasn’t. Now on the run, Rose is hiding away in a cabin hoping the noises she hears outside are just animals and not someone coming to take her back to the psych hospital, or worse coming to kill her.

To start off, this book has a lot (and I mean a LOT) of trigger warnings. If you are a sensitive reader, make sure to check those out before you dive in. I felt like the first half of the book was very heavy and made it hard for me to really dive in. Most things had to do with Rose’s past, but also some of her present could be triggering too.

Once I hit the halfway point, this book seemed to really pick up. We knew who our main players were and what was at stake, and after learning more of Rose’s background she was more likable and easy to root for. The hard thing was so much of the action seemed to be rooted in Rose’s flashbacks rather than her present experience.

In the end, this book had a few twists and turns that made it an enjoyable read. I gave it 3 stars. Thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I went into the book blind and, I was immediately captivated within the first few pages. Rose's first-person perspective provided a gripping narrative, akin to a nightmarish twist on a fairytale. The storyline maintained a swift pace with minimal filler, cleverly intertwining past and present timelines that eventually converged. The inclusion of cliffhanger chapters enhanced the overall experience.

Rose, as a character, earned my sympathy and forgiveness despite her flaws. Faced with the need to disappear rapidly, she found herself in a precarious situation with limited options. Her journey unfolded from rags to riches, only to revert to rags once more. The absence of her Prince Charming left her in a chilling, isolated cabin in the woods, where she felt like a watched deer.

The author's choice of multiple timelines added an engaging layer to the narrative, keeping me in suspense and guessing throughout. The sections set in the cabin were particularly atmospheric and tension-filled, contributing to my overall enjoyment of the book. In summary, I found it thoroughly engaging!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for sending a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A really good read. It opens with a bang and never lets up. Loved the slow reveal of what led to this point, and it's tense and gripping.

This book was very good. I was holding my breathe and my heart was pounding a few times. I took one star away because there were a few holes in the plot.

Rose is running from her past, but also to stay alive.
She's staying in the cabin in the woods but she needs to stay hidden, but the slashes on her arms aren't healing and she needs help, but she doesn't know who she can trust.

Alderson writes a fast-paced novel, flicking from a duel timeline in alternating chapters, keeping them short to keep the reader guessing and the flow fast.

I found myself unable to put this book down, and although I had slightly guessed how this would end there were two twists I didn't see coming.

This is the second novel I have read by this author and one I would recommend.

Rose is on the run and must risk leaving the cabin for supplies in order to survive. Sarah has wrote the first person narrative perfectly and I felt as though I was Rose throughout the whole story and at times I felt intense. Wow what a story this book was. This is the first ever book I have read by Sarah Alderson. After finishing it I went and added her other material to my TBR list.

This was a slow and steady read that had the reader engrossed throughout, and you just had to see what is happening next! Recommended for anyone who loves a good read.

This is the first book I've read by Sarah Alderson, and after finishing it I added her backlist to my TBR. The reader is experiencing the story as Rose; Alderson writes this first person narrative expertly, leaving me feeling just as I'm sure Rose would have felt. It is helpful to suspend belief a few times, but you'll be so invested in the story that you won't mind. The alternating "Then" and "Now" chapters kept a good pace and showed the reader just the right amount of backstory to provide context to the present.

Rose is on the run. She has been hiding alone in a cabin in the woods, but now she needs supplies and must risk leaving to survive. Told through two storylines, Rose’s past quickly finds a way into her life again.

I picked this book up solely based on the title and cover. I am a fan of an isolated thriller and following one character, and this fulfilled both of these things. I loved so many things about this book, and because of the alternating storylines, I couldn’t put this book down. I liked how Rose learned information about her past life through magazines at the gas station and how there were survival elements thrown in as well. If it weren’t for a few things with the ending that I thought got too far-fetched and unbelievable, I really enjoyed this book.

I enjoyed this one - it was certainly an entertaining read.

The Cabin in the Woods is a fast-paced and suspenseful thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. The novel follows the story of Mackenzie, a teenage girl who agrees to spend a weekend at a remote cabin in the woods with her boyfriend, Josh, and a group of his friends.

From the very beginning, it's clear that something sinister is at play. The cabin itself seems to be haunted by a dark and malevolent force, and as the weekend progresses, Mackenzie and her friends find themselves facing a series of increasingly terrifying and life-threatening situations.

Alderson's writing is taut and propulsive, and she does an excellent job of ratcheting up the tension as the story unfolds. The novel is full of twists and turns, and readers will be kept guessing until the very end.

There is a heavy reliance on familiar horror movie tropes and cliches - some readers may not enjoy this aspect. The story of a group of young people being stalked by a mysterious killer in a remote location is a well-worn one, and while Alderson does put her own spin on it, some readers may find the novel's plot to be somewhat predictable.

Overall, The Cabin in the Woods is a well-executed thriller that will appeal to fans of the genre. While it may not be the most original or thought-provoking book out there, it is certainly a page-turner that will keep readers engaged and entertained from start to finish. 3.5 stars.

This was such an addicting thriller. I'm becoming a big fan of Sarah Alderson's stories! There's no better location for a thriller than an isolated cabin in the woods. The setting really drew me into the story! There were so many twists and turns and I never knew what would happen next! This is a great thriller and I can't wait to see what she writes next!

The book starts off with Rose in hiding in a cabin in the woods, frightened for her life. Her past is slowly revealed, layer by layer. I rooted for her to come out swinging. After all the losses she had to suffer through, she deserved at least one win.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc.
