What a riveting psychological thriller. I was completely engrossed in the story, which was cleverly done, jumping back and forth between now and then seamlessly. I loved how the author didn’t go into too much detail, because it increased the suspense.

Synopsis:

Cabin in the Woods follows a young woman named Rose, who has disappeared from her New York socialite life in mysterious circumstances. Hiding out in upstate woodland, she begins to worry she is not as off-grid as she thought when it becomes clear she is being watched

This book was engaging, interesting and original. There were some minor inconsistencies, for example when Rose talked about escaping to another place which didn’t make sense when more of the story was revealed. Other than that, I loved everything about the book. The writing style appealed to me, and Alderson’s writing was flawless. I had to read on whenever I could and felt very happy with the outcome of the book. A major plus was that at the end things that happened earlier in the book, made even more sense.

"In a cabin in a wood,
A woman by the window stood.

Glancing out, she thought she heard
Footsteps, whistling, something stirred.

Hiding here, she fears the night,
For what’s done in the dark will come to light.

She must run fast to escape her lie
Or she’ll be the next to die…"

This is all I knew when I started reading this book but oh boy was I in for a good story. Before I properly start the review, I want to thank Netgalley and Avon Books for letting me read this ARC. Now, let's start.

You start this book knowing nothing about the main character, what happend, what she is running for. But believe me it all becomes perfectly clear in due time. And then I hope you'll like it just as much as I do, because I rated it 5 stars. And here is why:

As I said at the beginning you know absolutely nothing. You honestly don't even know whether you can trust the main character or not. Everything is narrated by her, and you can't be certain whether she is telling the truth or you are caught up in her reality. It made me want to read more very quickly. I just wanted to find out who I could trust in this story. During this review I will try to keep away from the details in order to keep it spoiler free. Normally I like to talk more about the details but I don't want to give the plot away.

The book often switches between the past and present, and through these changes you'll find out more and moreabout what is happening and how the main character got into this situation. I started to have suspicions during the book, but I was never sure whether they were true or whether I wanted them to be true, and then in the last 100 pages it just all connected and it made so much sense.

Tense is a good way to describe this book. There is continious tension and the main character is contioniosly on her guard. This made me feel very tense as well, but in a good way! I got absorbed into the story and wanted to know more.
They way the story was build up and the backstory was just perfect, it fitted perfectly within the story. I have genuinly nothing bad to say about it.

Amazing. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. The plot was nice, the characters were fleshed out but it was the pacing that was the real winner here. I want to put my hands on everything Sarah has written and read it all in a day. She's very good.

Thanks to NetGalley for a free copy. It doesn't influence my opinion in any way.

I received another book to review by @netgalley and it was a real page turner! It's The Cabin in the Woods by @sarahaldersonauthor . It will come out on the 7th of July.

I've read this book in just an evening and morning. It is written in such a way that you can't stop and put it aside - you just need to continue because you want to find out what will happen and what has happened.

You follow Rose who had a terrible childhood, which is really difficult to read about! Rose ends up working in New York when she meets Ryan. They marry rather quickly and then it all happens.

The author manages to create excitement and unease by alternating between flashbacks and the present day. Some shocking events come to light as well. This all makes it an absolutely brilliant book which I would recommend wholeheartedly.

Wow! I couldn’t put this one down, reading it every chance it got. Suspenseful right from the first page, the story had me hooked and having to know what happened next. The settling alone was spine tingling!! Both past and present story lines are well told and weave together perfectly in the end. What an accomplished, atmospheric and suspenseful thriller! Loved it and will definitely be keeping an eye out for this author.

Sarah Alderson has become one of my favourite authors and this was another brilliant novel.

A woman, in a cabin in the woods, hiding, waiting, ready to run.

We are told very little from the synopsis and deliberately so. As the story goes along we see the narrative in past and present and see how this woman came to be here, waiting. Aldersons writing is suspenseful, intriguing and clever. The story led me on an unexpected journey and while I could anticipate some small elements, I could never have guessed where it would end up. Such an enjoyable novel.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this gifted review copy.

Rosa is hiding in a dilapidated cabin in the woods. The story is divided between the Present and the suspense of whether she will be discovered, and the Past, and the explanation of what happened and why she is hiding. The tension builds and you feel her dread. A nail-biter of a read.

The book is the best book that I have read in a while. Rose is on the run and hiding from the police. She hides out in a cabin in the woods far from home where nobody knows her. She thought she had the perfect marriage, loyal loving husband, rich and good looking she felt so lucky he had chosen her. That is until one night when something so horrric happens that turns her whole world upside down and opens her eyes to what her husband is really like.
You will be hooked from start to finish with this book. There are so many twists and turns to keep you wanting more.

A suspenseful read that keeps you turning the pages. Good how it goes between past and present and all comes together at the end. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.

Once again Sarah Alderson proves that she is truly one of the greats! This book is easily my favorite I’ve read so far this year. The level of detail is astounding & provides such a clear picture of the story.

I enjoyed the perspective of the present and also going back to the past. It was the perfect build up to the climax and the resolution. You slowly get the true picture of the monster that Ryan was. I really enjoyed a lot of the characters in this book. Gwen, Jake, Isabel, and even Rose (despite her initial naive tendencies) were all great.

So far, I’ve read 3 of Sarah’s books. Each one, twisty, atmospheric, and unputdownable. I cannot wait to see what else Sarah writes. I will be first in line to read! 10/10 recommend!

I absolutely loved reading The Cabin In The Woods.

Rose Reid is isolated in the middle of the woods in a rundown cabin, paranoia sets in frequently, she doesn't want to be discovered.

The narrative switches between past and present so as the story goes on we discover the events that lead to Rose hiding out, learn of her childhood and how she came to meet her husband.

The book was heartbreaking at times, full of suspense and left me not wanting to put it down!

Thank you to Netgallery and Avon Books for allowing me to review an arc copy.

The Cabin In The Woods - Sarah Alderson

I loved Sarah Alderson's most recent book The Stalker so couldn’t wait to read this.

A lone woman holed up in a remote cabin in the woods, cut off from the outside world, she doesn't want to be seen, doesn't want to be recognised. Is she in hiding? Is she on the run?

Told using a Past and Present narrative, the Present shows her struggle to stay undetected, the Past explains who she is, why she's in hiding and who she is trying to escape from.

From the mysterious opening the tension builds and builds, a steady drip, drip, drip water torture as details are revealed. The pacing and flow are perfect, all the reveals and elements combine to create a nerve shredding thriller.

Past and Present are wonderfully balanced, both had me enthralled as they progress and come together. The plotting is intricately layered and the tension grabs you by the throat.

Absolutely compelling and compulsive reading! I felt like I was being psychologically tortured in the best possible way.

Even better than The Stalker, I can't recommend this book highly enough. The best psychological thriller I've read this year and sure to be a contender for my book of the year.

She does it again with a new brilliant novel!
I loved Sarah Alderson's novel The Weekend Away and just watched the Netflix film adaptation which was amazing as well.
So to say I was excited for a new novel by her is an understatement.

The Cabin in the Woods is a spellbinding story.
Sarah creates characters unlike anything I've seen before. They are so relatable, realistic, raw, emotional and and just phenomenal.
I heard myself say "Holy crap! Like this is good"!
I was all over the place!
An absolutely riveting, exciting, heart throbbing read!
This book kept me guessing till the very last page! I loved the twist and turns, writing... Honestly everything about this book was wild.
I just love this author!

Gripped me from the start, this was a page-turner and I stayed up late to finish. I recognized certain thriller tropes (for instance, some of this is similar to Karen Slaughter's "Pretty Girls" but without the gore and agony), but it did not keep me from enjoying and compelled to find out what would happen next. Recommend for suspense fans. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

This book was sent to me by. Netgalley electronically for review…murder…horrors…abuse…family and friends…running away…discovery…fear…hiding…trusting or not…children…marriage…breakups…these themes run throughout this novel, written by an author who has woven an ingenious can’t put down story. It is as if this is true crime…most of the characters just are not likable…some are but still not at all what they should be…they are far from quirky and fun…serious and foreboding…the protagonist is trying to survive… the horrors she endured are endless…it seems when the reader thinks things will be fine, they turn… one part (of many)that bothered me was the story of the child…I can’t put my finger on it, but there seemed to be something about that aspect of the book that did not ring true…I can’t write about it as it would be a spoiler…that being said, this author is one I will continue to read…a thriller…

Jaw dropping.
It's like Ruth Ware's In a dark dark wood. It's really creepy.
In a cabin in a wood,
A woman by the window stood.
Glancing out, she thought she heard
Footsteps, whistling, something stirred. Hiding here, she fears the night,
For what’s done in the dark will come to light.
She must run fast to escape her lie
Or she’ll be the next to die…
I think everyone should read it. I enjoyed it very very much.
Thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for giving me an advance copy.
