An immersive character driven novel following Olga, her family dynamic and her relationships.
Told mainly from Olga's perspective, but also interspersed with letters from her mother, we learn about her everyday life, her Puerto Rican heritage and how her strained relationship with her mother plays its part.
I listened to the audio of this one and the narrators were captivating and took me away to America and Puerto Rico. I learnt about the culture and the issues with America without it feeling overdone. Also, the storyline of her brother was heartbreaking, had me fully involved and I just wanted to know how everything ended.
Despite this being about tougher subject matter, the story was so easy to follow and read that it was so accessible, even for someone that doesn't normally love character driven novels.
Highly recommend
