Mother...liar...murderer? By Ashley Beegan.
The Advocate Series Book 2.
Eleven years ago, Astrid Moor got away with murder. Now, someone wants to make her pay.
Astrid turns to Alex Swanson for help, the officer who risked everything for her once before. Except he’s a big shot DI now, and isn’t prepared to help her again.
But even though she's alone Astrid doesn’t take kindly to threats, and when she finally realises who is terrorising her she makes a decision she will never recover from.
A decision with far worse consequences than any secrets from her past.
A very good read with good characters. I did like the story and cover. 4*.

This is a review of a free copy from Netgalley

I had requested this book before I had read other reviews and my heart sank afterwards when I realised it was the second in a series of which I hadn’t read the first book (one of my self-imposed book rules is to always start a series at the first book). However I took note of the few reviews which reassured me it could be read as a standalone and went ahead with the read.

I’m not going to do a synopsis on this occasion as I would find this hard to do without giving away any spoilers, but main characters are the Advocate (for psychiatric patients in secure hospitals) Summer, Detective Swanson the police officer, Sophie (whose POV is historic) and the present day Astrid (single mum to a young boy) and this book brings Astrid to the forefront of the story and her past which has shaped her present. The supporting characters are all intertwined into the story and one another.

Each chapter is written from the lead character’s perspectives and really held my attention and had me guessing from the first to the last chapter. I did find it a bit confusing trying to remember who was who and how their stories were all intertwined but it didn’t detract from the intriguing plotline and all was cleared up in the last few chapters and a satisfactory conclusion.

I now definitely want to go back and read book 1, and then any further books that may be written in this series.

I would definitely recommend this book.

You can read this as a stand alone but it would be better to have read the other book first so as to get all the background information, I found it ok but it didn’t really grab me at all…..

I received a gifted copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via the author.

Mother..Liar..Murderer? is a quick fast paced read and follows on from Ashley Beegans first novel Lucy's Coming For You. This is a series but both books so far can be read as stand alone.
This book follows Aubrey who lives a secluded life with her son after running away from an abusive life when he was a baby. But someone's found her and the past has crashed into the present. She receives a threat and then her son is approached at school and then later goes missing. She didn't recognise the stranger and is frantic to find out who is after her and what they want.
Aubrey contacts the one person she feels she can trust. The man who helped her escape all those years ago - DI Alex Swanson.
We catch up with Summer in this book too who is searching for her brother. Can Alex help both women and keep them safe?
This was a great read and I loved how it picked up straight after book 1 yet was also stand alone. There are some great little twists and turns in this book and I couldn't put it down! I can't wait to find out what will happen next in book 3!
