Elsie Martin led a quiet life as a librarian in her small hometown. When her library is threatened with closure to make way for a new housing complex, she reaches out of her comfort zone, and leads the fight to save the library. Jacob Yardley is in charge of developing the new housing complex. Although Elsie and Jacob are at the opposite end of the conflict, he begins to see the value of the library to the town. This is a heartwarming story of a smalltown. I recommend this book.

The Little Library on Cherry Lane is a love story to libraries and speaks to my book-loving heart. Elsie is so devoted to her beloved library and fierce in her determination to save it. The story shows how important libraries are to the community, offering not just accessible reading material but also places to learn, connect with others, build a sense of community, and more. It is a gathering place for this small town and is so much more than what many see. I spent many hours in my local library as a child and have so many wonderful memories of my time there. This story captures those feelings well.

Elsie is such a richly developed protagonist, and she had such a great character arc. A quiet and shy woman, Elsie does not enjoy the spotlight. However, she proves she’ll do anything to protect the things and people she loves. She learns a lot about herself, her community, and her hopes for the future over the course of the book, and her passion for books and libraries is contagious. It inspired me to look up poets and poems mentioned in the story, and I read two poetry books after I finished this book.

Jacob is also dynamically developed, and he isn’t the terrible person Elsie originally believes him to be. Throughout the story you see his struggle to find himself, to live up to his demanding and unforgiving father’s relentless expectations, and to prove himself. I so wanted him to stand up to his dad and tell him how he really felt about the job. Jacob is a good man with a good heart, and his growing connection to Elsie is fantastic.

The slow-building enemies-to-lovers romance between Elsie and Jacob is a great part of the story. I always love and enemies-to-lovers, will they or won’t they relationship, and Jacob and Elsie have it in spades. There is also a bit of a love triangle. I think Elsie learns a lot about herself as she spends time with each of these men, and it’s interesting to see how she deals with her changing feelings. Of course, there is one romantic partner that Elsie can’t stop thinking about, and their chemistry is fantastic. I couldn’t wait to see if these enemies would work out their differences and find compromise.

The secondary characters in the book are fabulous as well, especially the people who frequent Elsie’s library. It’s like a little found family, and they have such a wonderful connection. I also loved Elsie’s best friends and next-door neighbors. They are so loyal and supportive, even when they don’t completely agree with Elsie. You can tell they all really care for each other and want the best for each other.

This is a charming, small-town contemporary romance with great messages about fighting for what you believe in, taking ownership of your life, and embracing love and community. It also sheds light on more serious issues like the loneliness of motherhood, grief, the harmful effects of governmental cuts, economic hardships, and more, which adds so much depth to an already layered and rich story. I’m so thankful to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

What a cozy, sweet book. The cover is what drew me to this book and I’m glad I had the opportunity to read it. I loved the setting (takes place in a little village) with everyone rallying around Elsie to save the village’s library. The tension in the plot was well-paced, Jacob and Elsie were adorable and sweet. This book was like a warm hug and I enjoyed the ending. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I was absolutely delighted to be chosen to review this book on NetGalley.

The cover drew me in straight away, the gorgeous illustration of a cute little thatched roofed cottage surrounded by flowers looked perfect and then i imagined the village in belonged to and wanted to find out more about this little library on Cherry Tree Lane.

If you’re a lover of books and all things reading then this is for you, especially if you’re a member of your local library and value the services it provides.

Elsie loves books so much they consume every part of her life including her cottage and place of work which is the local library . When her whole world is shook by the prospect of the library being closed Elsie must change and evolve.

I genuinely loved reading this book and felt as if it was a love story about books in many ways, Elsie her friends and the villagers are so lovely and I felt for every single one of them when it was announced the library would be closing , the characters also remind me a lot of people that I know as I live in a village too.

I hope you enjoy this gorgeous story as much as me.
Thanks again Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book .

The latest Katie Ginger book takes us back to the lovely sounding Meadowbank . This time we follow the story of book loving local librarian Elsie & watch the lengths she will go to try & save the library from being knocked down in order to build new affordable homes on its site. The library is a social gathering place for many of the locals & along the way we will meet up with characters we have met before..

The Little Library on Cherry Lane by Katie Ginger was exactly the book I needed to read as the doldrums of January set in.
Ginger is an amazingly talented writer whose characters are dynamic and relatable. I was drawn in simply by the reference to a library in the title, and was pleasantly enthralled by the tale Ginger spun within the pages. The efforts of the main character to protect the community library from predatory developers is sure to hit home with every book lover and library supporter, while the plight of the developer himself, who isn't as predatory as his boss and father would like, tugs at the heartstrings. The on again, off again budding romance between the two, and the side stories of the villagers and their trials and challenges, make the book a page turner right to the end. It is a heart-warming, cozy, and wonderful read that will thoroughly chase the winter blues away. It is sure to be listed among the best books of the year.
As the author herself states within the pages of the book, "...who didn't need an uplifting, happy ending now and then?"
I know I did! Thanks to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy to enjoy.

An absolutely gorgeous read. I loved the little library community, with its quirky characters, including Elsie, Patricia, Gemma, Ola, Wilson and Bernard. The fight to save the library from demolition to make way for the building of new, affordable homes for the village, divides the village, but when disaster strikes, the community pulls together. I found myself cheering Elsie on and hoping that she and Jacob could pit their differences aside as they are so obviously mad about each other! So pour a cuppa, open the biscuits (or cut a piece of cake!) ,curl up in your favourite armchair and enjoy!

A sweet story of village life and budding romance between two misfits.Elsie is extremely shy, and loves her little job at the village library. Jacob is under his father's thumb, and is in the village to tear down her library and put in economical homes. When she feels her library being threatened she speaks up and starts the ball rolling to save it. Jacob is torn between liking her and wanting to please his father. Nice story and hard to put down. Highly recommend.

This was my first book by this author and definitely won’t be my last. I didn’t realise that this book was part of a series until after I had read it but it didn’t detract from my reading and most certainly works as and can be read as a standalone.

This was a beautiful escapism read with fabulous characters particularly the character of Elsie who plays a pivotal part in the community and is central to the story. This was a story of friendships and community and of standing up and fighting for the things which are important to you. This story will particularly appeal to those who have a massive love of books and their local library.

I would love a sequel to this to see how the lives of the community pan out particularly those of Elsie and Jacob.

As a big fan of this author I couldn’t wait to start this book and I was not disappointed in the slightest. I spent a glorious afternoon devouring this wonderful, upcoming release from Katie Ginger.

As a huge fan of a library myself, the possible loss of a small, well-loved, community one like in this story is easy to empathise with. Book lovers will take this one to heart, feel the pain and upset within the village and be wowed by heroine, Elsie. I love, love, love her and the community she’s part of. Her love for her job and the people she’s surrounded by is clear for all to see.

Discovering herself, allowing her voice to be heard and leading the community to do all they can when hope is gone, Elsie is a character with some gumption and it’s brilliant.

As with all Katie’s books, I was amazed by the wonderful characters, even the ones you want to hate are well written; swept up in the sense of community and friendship. I was rooting for the library but I was cheering Elsie on more than anything. Her growth as a person from start to finish was really special.

With drama, laughter, kindness and of course, cake. I just know everyone will love a trip to Meadowbank.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance copy to review.

A delightful, sweet tale of village life, personalities and a slow burning romance. The characters were varied and the story centred on the battle to save the village library. Descriptions were good without being overly detailed and I could almost imagine myself in the setting, interacting with the various personalities. There were some funny parts too. A lovely read.
